i dislike various bits of American culture etc (LOL on american culture.. what an oxymoron!)

But not enough to condem the place.. and on the few visits i have done.. i liked it, and the majority of the people were very nice.

The 6.6 billion people on Earth, minus the 150 million US Republicans on earth don't hate the US... They hate the Republicans.

This is like a ratio of 10:0.000000001

I feel so loved. Not even all Republicans like Bush. Heck, not even all conservatives like Bush. For instance, the port thing really angered many conservatives. They just hated Kerry more (and rightfully so).

Either way, Republicans don't need your personal approval or anyone else's approval. We aren't the type to be bossed around (whether Conservative, Libertarian, or Centrist). Bush is finding that out now.

On a more related note, I like the US overall. Some things I like. Some things I don't. Anyone want a list, pm me.

coincidently Bush is also finding out that that statement holds true for most people. And on a side note, does it really matter if people love the US or not, when gods position on this is quite clear: http://www.godhatesamerica.com/

God also seems to dislike my home country: http://www.godhatessweden.com/

These maniacs that run that site should be vapourised without delay.

Their hate and mockery of people who died in the tsunami ranks them
along the lowest form of scum. A total affront to all christians and religion.

.

Meh, they'll get theirs when they come face to face with God and he starts quoting the bits of the bible they missed, the ones about being nice to people and that.

Whacko: "You mean I'm going to hell after all?"

God: "Yes, you were a complete bastard on earth and made me look bad. I've saved you a seat next to Mohammed Atta, you can at least have some fun asking where his virgins are."

edit: cool! there's a God Hates Canada site too! That would explain the weather.

I didn't think I'd like living here before moving last Sept. But we've really felt at home here since arriving. That said, there is good and bad to the US. For how nice our new friends and Philadelphia has been, there is a lot we would rather not have. For instance, it's hard not to notice the racial tension in the city (we live in W. Philadelphia, where it's very in your face). Most service jobs are black jobs and white collar jobs are well, white. It gets depressing to read about politics in the US and how things seem to be going backwards for liberals (abortion, homophobia, Patriot Act, etc.). It's shocking to pay for health care - it really acts as a wall between the haves and have nots. In the long term I think we'll go back to Canada because we don't really want our son to grow up here. Not because we don't like the US, but because being here has made us more patriotic than my wife or I have ever felt for Canada. When we go we'll take a much better appreciation for Americans (they aren't all Republicans), and also a better appreciation for our own country.

For that reason I couldn't bring myself to answer your poll, because it is too complicated for me to boil down my feelings for the US simply to a like/dislike.

Good reply, Danghis.

I voted that I like the US, but I really wouldn't want to migrate there. The health care is certainly part of it. The lack of real history is another (I like old things...). The lack of diversity of culture, another. And the extent of the self-centredness as a nation. And most of all, the attitude towards religion - not an easy place to feel comfortable in as an atheist.

But, then again, there's baseball. The food (well, in some areas). The service culture. But the principal thing on the plus side is the openness and friendliness of the people (for the most part).

The pluses outweigh the minuses, for sure. But I'll just visit occasionally - I'm sure we're all happier with that arrangement ;)

The U.S. is a good and bad country. For the most part, just like anyother.

I may have issues with some of its aspects, but right now its the only place I would like to live. :)

The US has Machiavellian leaders like all countries, including the EU and Iraq.

It doesn't sound like you have been to the US. Have you?

6 times last year. Less frequently than that in previous years, but enough times over the last 10 years to have lost count. Principally to New York, Missouri, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois and California.

Clearly you don't share my view of your country. Fair enough. Is there any part in particular that you felt was a mistaken perception on my part ?

I agree with your post Lambert, well all cept the baseball part, I don't like baseball.

US:
Politics: strongly dislike
Americans: depending on ther person, dislike their winner mentality if it shows too strong
culture: except for a few flaws I love it
mentality: I can live with it

Overall: more love than I expected, but a few strong negative points nevertheless.

Answer: rather yes than no.

I am not sure how to answer this. I like the US if one does not include the Bush Administration. But if you toss in the Bush Administration, then I dont like the US.

BTW, I am an US Citizen.

No diverse culture part (US culture is many different cultures, although they are seen seperated). Anti-Atheist part (being atheist is considered cool and the only logical answer, even by many adults).
