I like the US fine, it's given the world a lot. Sure, it's not perfect, but people in glass houses etc.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter to me what anyone else thinks about it, but I like it (of course, when I say that I'm not associating it with politics or government, and people who are... well, they either need to come and experiance it or try to lose their opinion of it).

The more you experiance the more you like.

Ya, i like the USA, thou there are many aspect of USA that i do not like, but i still enjoy many of the products produce by them. Pixar movies, Star wars, Mac ?? Burger King, fast food...

A country is never monolithic. Each one have good and bad aspect. Generally speaking, I'd say that I like the US, even if I have a preference for certain areas relatively to others, but that's true for anyone I guess.

No real problem with the U.S. I went there when I was small, and it seemed quite fun. I'd like to visit again and experience it properly.

And obviously, I'm not from the U.S

The 6.6 billion people on Earth, minus the 150 million US Republicans on earth don't hate the US... They hate the Republicans.

This is like a ratio of 10:0.000000001

News to you....if you hate half the people in the USA...then you hate the USA irregardless.

Of course America isn't perfect, no country inhabited by imperfect human beings ever could be. But, overall, I do like America very much, and there is nowhere else I would rather live more than here. The USA is the best.

Of course America is great, there like when the best sports team lose a few games after years of victorys and everyone says there hopeless or your best freinds for 10 years anoys you, america has been the greatest country for so long they make a few little mistakes like Iraq and people hate them. I still think america is great and if i couldnt live Here or australia, america would be my choice.

The closest approach to this that I've ever found was the GlobalVote web site created in 2004. The site collected a total of something like a hundred thousand votes.

This is the largest, most representative sample of world opinion that exists (that I know of). And it's worthless. It's a sample only of people who were informed of the web site and have Internet access. Also, the sample size is far too small to represent a population of 7 billion people (edit: ya know, I think I'll go look that one up....I'm kinda rusty at statistics).

Since a large percentage of the planet's citizens live under oppressive governments, collecting an accurate representative sample of world opinion is impossible.

RE-edit: no luck on the statistics thing. Wikipedia had a note that a sample size of 1000 was kinda sorta good enough to estimate the views of a population of 6 billion, but then went on to say it's "not quite good enough". Then there was a site where a sample size of 167,000 was too small for sampling women in the U.S., and a Census Bureau web site where the desired sample size was 300,000.

I hate statistics.

Well, I give a damn. It's why I started this thread.

I wonder why you care what some stranger from the UK thinks of your country?

I like the U.S., in general. But it's not what it used to be. It's my country, and it's a great one - the land of opportunity. But, things have changed. In my lifetime, I've seen the society change, for the worse. Hard to explain. But, it's just not as happy, not as open, not as friendly, not as trusting, not as courteous, etc.

Basically the age of innocence is gone. At least I lived to see some of it, though. 'Dog eat dog' pretty much sums up the whole society. "I got mine. Screw you and the horse you rode in on" - seems to sum it up nicely. You get the feeling people wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

But, I think it's natural. In nature, anytime a certain group reaches the top of the chain, they turn on themselves. Power corrupts, I guess. And it's gradually affecting our society as a whole.

Hey, whatever. "I got mine..."

I like the US.

But perhaps not always in the way and to the extent that some would like.

The US is a country impossible to love if one is looking at it from the outside, and the figure it cuts in the world. It's very hard not to love it when looking at how it works on the inside.

What Europeans like me suspect many Americans of is often not noticing the considerable difference in these perspectives.
