Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

The last PM with a surname that didn't give away his immigrant heritage was Lloyd George...
Wasn't he Welsh? Or was that the joke?

To a posh English person, maybe. To us Euros most recent British PMs sound english/british, despite their ties to other parts of the isles... Eg Blair, Brown (iirc Scottish), Thatcher (?), and of course John Major, you can hardly have a more English name :)

(also thinking that older PMs, eg Disraeli, were not in an actual democracy where most classes/ people would vote).

EDIT: Actually I'm pretty sure 'George' is derived from Greek via Latin, so there might not actually have been any.

^PS: yes, George comes from Georgia. Got to latin first (you would recall the Georgikon/Georgika, by Virgil). The term means 'of the land'/agricultural, and ultimately is derived from Gaia (land/earth) with the addition of Ergon (work) ;)
Farmers here are still called georgoi (γεωργοί).

From the best QVC segment I have seen in a long while, mostly because I don't watch QVC unless it achieves this level of stupidity:

"Ahhh, from the planet moon..."

"The moon is a planet darling. The mooooon is a plaaaaahhnet honeyyyy."

"The moon is such a planet I can't even STAND it."

"Well what else is it if it's not a planet?"

"I believe it's a star! Or...something."

"Didn't you ever do that thing in grade school with the planets where there's Uranus, and Saturn, and then the one with the rings, and then the earth and then THE MOON IS NEVER IN THERE DUDE."

"But THINGS LIVE ON IT! That means it's a planet!"

Amongst other golden lines that crack up the models. Check it out, starting around 7:30:

He looks like a cross between an 80s wrestler and a paedophile church pastor.

WINNING.

Spelling 'paedophile' the Latinate way, rather than the Websterian 'changes the pronunciation' way.

WINNING. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a video out there of him waving his hands and praising the God and how the only way to salvation is by donation to the number 1-888-FAKE NUMBER-356.

"Would it kill Republicans to crack a joke? I actually think for some Republicans it might. You know -- lighten up a little...So many Republicans run a Soviet-style campaign."

Silly Cruz, doesn't he realize Republicans don't crack jokes because they're hilarious enough without them?

"The imbalance of far more women than men at colleges has been a factor in the various sex scandals that have made news in the last couple of years. So, what's the solution? One solution might be to impose the duty on admissions officers to arbitrarily admit only half women and half men."

The quote is bad, but the name/surname is far worse

"There’s an interesting phenomenon where we’re actually okay with inflation. If the money supply is growing, that’s just virtual currency, but the virtual currency means that if people’s balances are growing, it means people are getting richer in our community, and they’re able to afford more stuff, right?" - Jason Loia, COO, Gaia Online (context)
