You billionaires need to start paying your fair share ;) :p

Striking a month before an election was a terrible idea. Harold Daggett would've thrown the whole thing to Trump and come out as the most hated man in (probably most of) America.

Dragging it out at election time would br terrible. It will be forgotten in a week.

Vance has repeatedly accused the media of being "obsessed" about an election Trump regularly brings up.

Classic douchebag behavior of, when you call them out for doing something awful, they insist you're making a big deal out of nothing and why are you still so upset about something that was almost four years ago, OMG, get over it all ready!

Even Republican leaning outlets are marking that Vance non-reply as the most pathetic moment of the debate. But the VP debate probably won't change much in the polls anyhow.

Why is that upsetting?
My guess is the fact that Liz Cheney and her father have hitched onboard to support Kamala Harris. Rick Cheney is understandable if anyone has been through the Bush Jr Administration (not to mention he was the vice president). The only thing I know about Liz is her outspoken criticism and opposition to Trump.

At this point, the Democratic Party can’t afford to devolve into purity spirals.

They're old school GoP who at least believe in the basics such as the republic and peaceful transfer of power.

At this point differences in policy doesn't really matter that's what elections are for.

I'm not sure objecting to being endorsed by the Cheneys is a "purity spiral".

Presumably you'd have no objections to every Communist and socialist organisation throwing in their support for a candidate? It wouldn't matter at all to you, right? It wouldn't change your optics of Harris' platform one bit?

Dick Cheney is welcome to vote for whoever he want to vote for and if he votes for the same candidate as me, cool, but there is no fudging way I'd ever want to associate with a neocon war pig scumbag like him, and Kamala tacking on the thanks for "what he has done for this country" thing is unnecessary and kinda disgraceful, even if she feels it's necessary to thank him for his support. For what Dick Cheney has done? Get us drawn into Iraq for no reason and being one of the driving forces behind the Republican Party's sharp turn to the right post 9/11? He's a good chunk of why we're currently in the mess we are with Trump!

To give the devil his due, It's the only redeeming value that Dick Cheney has. If I were in Kamala's shoes and been opposed to Bush Jr's Misadventures in Iraq, I'd put me in a difficult and awkward spot.

I don't know, I'm just a dumb dirty centrist liberal who doesn't eschew civility politics. :dunno:

After the Oklahoma Department of Education put out their requirements for bids to supply Bibles to state schools, a reporter for The Oklahoman went to a Christian education supply store and had one of their sales people look up any Bibles that fit the criteria, and only one fit perfectly, Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA Bible, better known as the Trump Bible after the former president started hawking the book.

According to the bid documents, vendors must meet certain specifications: Bibles must be the King James Version; must contain the Old and New Testaments; must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and must be bound in leather or leather-like material.

Can you explain why you think so? And not just what Dick did in the past? This is about now and beating Trump. Liz was one of the few repubs to defy the orange nightmare. The endorsements are huge for Harris’s campaign and it is in her best interest to acknowledge that publicly.

IMO the ONLY thing that matters right now is that Trump goes away.

Liz Cheney is a pro-genocide, pro-torture, pro-deregulation maniac who supported Trump every step of his Presidency and only turned against him when he literally sent a lynch mob to kill her. The fact that she is in the same coalition as you should in fact be highly concerning. It is exactly this inability to focus on nothing but the next election that got us to the current situation in the first place. Every four years we are told we have to put up with more and more bullfeathers in order to win "the most important election of our lifetime" and defeat the evil GOP. Well, I even agree that the GOP is evil, the problem is the Democrats have only gotten more and more evil over rhe course of my lifetime, a process that seems to have accelerated in the Trump era.

The Democrats are currently doing all of the things with regard to Middle East policy that I would have said in 2020 made Trump too dangerous to be President: specifically, blundering their way into a war with Iran out of a total unwillingness to rein in the most extreme Israeli behaviors. If someone told me in 2022 that the Democrats were going to fully support Israel to the hilt as it annihilated the people of both Gaza and Lebanon, I'd have said they were being way too cynical.

If you don't care about the middle east, then a domestic policy indicator of what i'm talking about is the Democrats' position on crypto, which the Biden administration has rightly been hostile to. Well, in 2024 this happened:

All of these policy issues the Dems think they need to compromise on for whatever reason are not consequence-free. Embracing crypto means exposing more Americans to scams, for example. It's a thousand little things like this that destroy social trust, trust in institutions, and that paves the way for Trump to step in and prey on the resulting disillusionment.

I repeat for emphasis: the inability of Democrats to put the pieces together and focus on anything but the next election is why we got Trump coming down that damn escalator.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

The long term effort to reform the Democratic party begins with defeating Trump in November.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) 2016 — Count Liz Cheney among those still supporting Donald Trump, even as a number of Republicans abandon their party’s presidential nominee because of remarks he made about women.

Trump’s comments were appalling but Hillary Clinton’s actions have been far worse, Cheney told The Associated Press by email Monday.

Cheney was referring to Clinton’s handling of sensitive emails on a private server while Clinton was secretary of state.

Cheney is a former State Department official and Fox News commentator. She is the oldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who in May said he supports Trump.

Liz Cheney also said Clinton would devastate the energy industry, name U.S. Supreme Court justices who wouldn’t uphold the Second Amendment, and expand the authority of federal agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency.

Politicians being politicians.

A decline in social trust is a consequence of a fracturing of community spurred by changes in communications technology. The end result is a fragmentation of beliefs and values. These changes will inevitably effect the political realm, of course, but it isn't the political realm that creates them.

I doubt politics even contributes much. We radically altered when, how, who, where and how frequently people talk to each other. Society stumbled into this unintentionally, but Humpty Dumpty can't be put back together again.

Trump was not possible in 1998, and not 2008, really, because the group of reference had not yet shrunk to the extent necessary to lose oneself in an echo chamber of birtherism. That changed as we got more wired.

In a past era, I was joking with a buddy who had family acting as senior McCain campaign staff at the state level about Fox News running the Republicans more than vice versa. He agreed. You could see it then, but it really ballooned. By 2016, it could be fairly said that the online, more organic groups formed through social media were more radicalizing than most of the wildest Murdoch content.
