every country gets the government it deserves, have fun with it for the next 4 years...
:D
It's not just going to be the next 4 years.

Even if Democrats get the presidency and/or House back in 2028, the Senate map for Democrats is crap over the next few election cycles, and don't get me started about how the SCOTUS is completely screwed up for the rest of the lifetimes of at least gen Xers, if not millennials.

My friend claims she will leave. We'll see if/when it actually happens.

Her country of origin isn't exactly a safe space rn either (Israel)

I've been speaking last few weeks to American family moving into my suburb.

They're a few streets over and we're asking about tbe suburb. Been sending them photos and answering questions.

Can they do that?

They'll certainly try. Presumably this will be followed by a bunch of states just telling the federal government to shove it as they do in some other cases where they disagree, and the end result to how it all plays out.... who really knows at this point, but it probably won't be good

It should be noted that elections still happen in places like Russia. They're just heavily weighted and cheated on towards the ruling party.

That's what we're all afraid of

Yeah that court with judges-for-life was a very bad idea, like the ayatollahs of the Far West, can't get rid of them.

There's a whole lot of things about how our system is set up that are very bad ideas that we've been stuck with forever because some dudes 240 years ago thought they were good ideas which apparently means we can't ever change them.

The founders put in place a way to add of change the Constituion so that things could be added or changed.

I also think they were naive because there was already major partisanship over slavery at the time in the US, although I'm not sure how they could have added in a fix at the time.

They could have like, actually banned it, or taken real steps to ensure it would go away quickly, or at least not done so much to enshrine the power of the slavers into the foundation of government, but they didn't.

Don't worry Trump doesn't care too much about the Constitution

I can see why they kept it at the time. They were more worried about the US splitting and being easy pickings for the major powers at the time (mainly Britain, but also Spain and maybe Portugal or Napoleonic France).

The biggest issue, and the one that you can point to being a direct line to today's issues is the failure of Reconstruction and the allowance of former Confederate leaders to being able to get back into state leadership roles.

If they did that no USA.

He's gonna end up using it as toilet paper just to "PWN the libs/lefties". :twitch:

It turns out that Kamala's greatest upside is she is not Biden. Biden, I believe would have done worse. If you think about it she failed in the previous 2020 Dem primaries, satisfied some voter blocs as a vice president candidate and lucked into the candidacy for presidency, because Biden is/was to frail to run. Couple with the fact that she is a woman, I believe there is a certain resistance among the pop. to elect a woman, she is non white again more resistance, and she is not really all that compelling of a person, no charisma, a veritable unknown and you get the results we got today. Democrats shouldn't feel to bad that an ad hoc candidate lost, hell she probably out performed her potential. If you ask me and I know you did not, but I think dems need to moderate their views, move to the center and start giving younger talent more opportunities in their party. Oh not ignore issues like immigration and offer non solutions to the problem.

And get ready talks about succession

They Liz and Dick Cheney are outsiders in the Trump Party, dinosaurs from the Republican party of the past and irrelevant. Most in the Trump party hate those neo cons. I do to. The one redeeming quality of Liz Cheney is at least she had the courage to call Jan 6 what it really was.

If I were a tinfoil hat kinda person I'd say Democrats aren't even trying.
  1. Don't even challenge the oldest president in history
  2. then at last minute sub in the least popular VP in modern history who polled 3% in primary (in 2020)
  3. Keep talking about how nuts Trump is and give him all the attention
What could go wrong?

It really doesn't feel like Dems learned much in last eight years. Maybe by 2028...

They tried. They are just totally, utterly incompetent. They being not just the democrats but the whole state apparatus, as shown by the vote result in DC. The democrats are the PMC portion of the uniparty and they're, in a word, incapable. How do you think your country got the way it is now? If it's any consolation on this side of the ocean I see the same crap. And the oligarchs hedge their bets by financing both halves of the uniparty.

I guess Trump won't be a real populist, he'll do as they want, as usual. Looking at whether he'll keep of fire the anti-monopoly woman. That'll tell.
