End of Empires - N3S III

OOC: Having spoken to NK and to make things a bit simpler, I'd like to confirm that I'm no longer playing in the game. While I actually really enjoyed this update and the way in which my empire was torn apart by the contradictions inherent in its structure from the very beginning, I don't think it leaves me with much room for maneuver. And besides - from the stream of, uh, diplomacy in this thread I surmise that you guys have the situation well in hand. :p

At least, for now.

Whether or not I come back to this game later, I'd like everyone and most of all NK to know that I had a lot of fun with it, and only regret that I have never been able to commit as much effort to it as I wished. I also want you to know that I will be watching. Have fun!

OOC: Twas good playing with you despite the limited time I've been in the game. Despite me being rather petulant, perpetually troublesome, and guilty of writing things before due consideration on the basis of whims a number of times, our few correspondences have all been amicable, and for that I commend you.

OOC: I'm actually quite curious to see how the Church is going to adjust to the new situation in particular. A pity the centralist plot did not work out, as that may have meant a stronger alliance between the throne and altar; but as it is, the Church seems likely to continue being a key player even if the empire is completely gone.

There are no hard feelings on my part in any case, towards anyone in this game. Well, except maybe Thlayli, for not dying. :p While the timing of some of your conflicts with my allies could've been better, it didn't do much damage to the greater cause as I see it.

OOC: Who knows, the Church has recouped the loss of southern Helsia elsewhere (losses that are entirely my fault due to giving in to a juvenile "new player" urge to "do things, and do them now" rather than soberly go down the slow and steady road, losses which incidentally were exacerbated by that unfortunate gaffe with Iggy) and cleaned out the worst of the old corruption so I think I'm in a good spot to adapt to changing circumstances.

Three times shall the Sons of Airan seek in their pride to sit the Empty Throne. Three times shall the Sons of Airan betray the Faith; three times shall they hasten the End. Once by fear driven shall they rise against their Lord and Realm, and hide under Shadow out of fear of Light, and by them will be sundered forever the brotherhood of Faithful. Once by avarice driven shall they make compact with demons to overcome the strength of their brothers, and by them will the doors to the Realm be laid open to Enemy and the waters of life turned to death as blood stains the reeds. Once by envy driven shall they assault the Realm and lay waste its foundations and level its walls that they might reach its peak and there shall they at last sit the Empty Throne and look out and see the desolation and hear the wailing and witness the terror as the Faithful are cut down in their multitudes and the Sons of Airan shall know before their end that by them was the World lost.

It's too late for this update, but after the next one perhaps I could join this? If it would be alright with NK, requesting some basic filling-in on what I should know and advice on a minor nation to take to ease back into things.

EDIT: I've been given an offer to play Nakista as a vassal state. Sounds pretty good to me.

It's not a vassal state! It's a friendly ally/client state. The fact that they mostly just do what I want them to do and that their royal family is intrinsically connected to mine doesn't mean there are any feudal connections here.

Basically: I was nice, and they liked nice people.

Not quite a vassal state, but certainly aligned with and possibly subordinate to Parthe.

Stats are up.

As I said, requesting some help catching up with what's going on so far.

TO: Kargan and Kothari
FROM: Redeemer Satores, son of Xocares, King in Krato

Your siege has failed. Your northern allies surrender to their own greed and infighting like savages in the wilds of the south. Moti God-Kings lost their divinity on the field of battle. Their empire crumbles in avalanche under the weight of their false rule. I alone sit triumphant. For you are a long way from home, weary warriors, and with so few friends. Speak on behalf of your leaders. Bring to me a peace that secures my rightful and just rule of Krato and the Yensai and I will see no more to the pillage of your former Moti overlords. Go home while my temper allows it. Defending monsters that invaded my father's kingdom and hunted my sisters, my children, my cousins, my blood is finished.

To my chest I ready a dagger in promise of my word. I seek peace to save your lives. I seek peace to preserve my friends from the dangers of your aggression. Do you threaten the resurgent Dula? Or do you take my hand and end this nonsense?

A poem written by an unknown author has spread like a wildfire amoung the Rihnit after the defeat of the Leuna occupation by the Daharai and Rihnit Forces. The text in the parenthesis below is the English Translation.

Leuna Ivai motivka natigo oja grassawanahi.
(Leuna Forces landed on the Rihnit Shores)
Qi tavoika oja grasitikaviradra ni qi takitrr imva oja vianba okiadoo atav sambi oja tiama.
(They pillaged our towns and burned down our farms, trying to occupy our land)
Vohma biabaroo jataroano oja doha lalam jijjar ni ko doorooba.
(Somthing they forgot about is our people's pride which couldn't be overcome)
Ni gago Gras Darahi ni Rihnit Ivai yijat mikai kak Gras Leuna motivka qiyivajad
(And with the Darahi and Rihnit Forces united as one, the Leuna were forced to retreat)
oja taokma dibuni grasoalat ara ni oja ikaduha ni kiatha, Okadjakora qiagakidjama okama oja arongana.
(We have endured the times of sand and if we love and honor the trinity of thorns they shall protect us forever, her children)

Looking at the order deadline and having been suddenly relieved of work I expected to have to undertake, I believe I can join this now as Nakitsa.

From Nakista
To Parthe

Your benevolent reign is ideal for our region. We propose a treaty- if you are willing to subidise the prosperity of our state, then we are willing to formally submit to Parthe as your vassals.

From Genda Dascawen, Overlord of Parta, Tarwa, Zarpe, Cende, Dasca, Tarat, Teoras, Maraida[1], Tyrsias[1], Grand Prefect of Zarcasa, Partheca, and Teleunca, and King of Parthe
To the King of Nakitsa
[2]

Kneel, Brother King. Long have the Kings of Parthe stood beside the Chiefs of Katka and the Kings of Nakitsa. Long have we watched with pride as you became united and established your Kingdom. It is perhaps inevitable that reason displays a threatening world. All around you lie Aitahists, the fire-loving mass despirifiers[3] of our world. Tamed for now by gold and treasures, who knows when their urge to burn will kindle in their hearts?

I accept your acclamation as your master, and your people younger brothers to ours. Rise! Rise I say! For I am a gentle master. Let it not be said that the Kings of Parthe are greedy and treacherous, for we shall always stand by our words, exactly as we shall state them.

GENERAL

1) Nakitsa is considered a Vassal of Parthe, and Parthe is considered the Master of Nakitsa.
2) As brothers in the world, Nakitsa and Parthe shall greet each other's citizens[5] with the appropriate respect such status implies. Parthe is the senior in this brotherhood.
3) All Nakitsa are considered honorary Parthecans of the Parca status, and all Parthecans are considered honorary Nakitsawen of similar stature. Concordantly, all traditional honors implied by this Parca status apply.
3a) Thusly, Nakitsa and Parthe shall grant upon each other's merchants free resupply, room, board, and basic necessities as expected from such status.
3b) Thusly, Nakitsa and Parthe shall waive all relevant fees and duties[4] on each other's merchants.
4) Parthe shall defend Nakitsa to the best of her ability, and Nakitsa shall support Parthe's expeditions as requested.
5) Nakitsa and Parthe shall conduct diplomacy with one another's advice.
6) Parthe shall be given leave to intervene in Nakitsa in times of turmoil as she sees fit to uphold the rightful and correct government of Nakitsa. [6]
7) Once signed in ink and blood, the above agreements may not be renegotiated unless the entire treaty be destroyed and defamed.

SPECIFICS

1) The below agreements may be renegotiated as time passes.
2) Nakitsa agrees to allow a Parthecan fleet to dock in her harbor, and to patrol her coasts for pirates that seek to rob her.
3) Nakitsa agrees to allow a Parthecan force to garrison in her territory, to help protect and defend her.
4) Parthe shall send subsidies to improve Nakitsa's excellent harbor and build a new port in honor of their friendship.
5) Nakitsa shall aid Parthe in establishing a branch of the Taparasunuen and the Archives in her city.
6) Parthe and Nakitsa agree not interfere with one another's religious disputes, except in the case of unlawful Aitahist infestation.
7) Parthe and Nakitsa shall establish offices and diplomats to coordinate their policies and to appeal in the name of brotherhood in controversial events. [9]
8) In case of legal disputes, Parthecan Legal Tradition [7] shall hold supremacy until appealed,
8a) Upon which an equal council of Parthecan and Nakitsawen officials shall adjudicate in the name of their Kings.
8b) Only in the event of a great wrong, the King of Parthe or the King of Nakitsa shall hear the dispute. [8]
9) To seal this deal, I, King Genda of Parthe, shall marry my son and heir Crown Prince Indar Dascawen to an eligible bride of the Royal Family of Nakitsa.
9a) Other royal marriages shall also be held at this time.
10) Both Nakitsawen and Parthecan royalty shall continue to rule as Kings. [10]

[1] Using the island names until I figure out what I want to name them
[2] Just trying something for fun
[3] Can't think of the word, but we sorta see Aitahist as extreme Maninists in that they love the Light so much they want to free everyone's "Light" spirit from their "Dark" flesh with fire. Yeah, cultural misconceptions ftw.
[4] I'm assuming criminal penalties, extra recreation bills, and personal purchases, which Parca shouldn't get for free, would remain. Thinking more procedural stuff.
[5] As we are now considered "one family" in a lesser sense, this refers to the lesser duties related as such as feasts, prayer, and support. NOTE: this is NOT a standard Parca consideration.
[6] Partially for NK's sake, as of now I don't really see many unpopular interventions likely, especially over the early half of the ET. There should be plenty of Parthecan agents and merchants there, and Nakitsan courtesans here, able to sketch a reasonable picture for an arriving Parthecan Taskforce to pick a side. Later? Things do change, after all. Partially, though, to emphasize the agreement at hand.
[7] Not sure about the status of Parthecan Law. I know that Comden did reorganize the bureaucracy and "constitution" (governmental organization), as well as codify inheritance laws. But there are plenty of laws out there.
[8] Sorta similar to the Supreme Court-ish. A local issue, if settled unsatisfactorily by a local lord, goes to the regional prefect, then to the royal court, then to the King. Such escalation proceeds similarly. Note the OR. This might be to Nakitsa's advantage, as the King of Nakitsa is in many ways not as busy as the King of Parthe.
[9] AKA Embassies
[10] i.e. retain current titles. The Parthecan King has 2 meanings. 1) An up jumped mayor of a city with great influence in the countryside and 2) The mayor/ruler of Parta, the Homeland of the Homeless Parca, the Seat of the Archives, and the City of Kings.

OOC:
Pretty sure I've got everything covered.
Foreign, Military, Legal, Economic, Religious, Subsidies,
P.S-A similar agreement was used to "annex" Tarat, but Nakitsa is of a different situation entirely.

From Nakista
To Parthe

Agreed in its entireity.

(A littler later on)

From Nakista
To Parthe

Many of the tribes in our region are still uncivilised. As long as we can easily overwhelm them without aid, would our master King be alright with us attacking and annexing them to our realm?

From King Genda
To Nakitsa

Although we suggest peaceful expansion over outright war, there are times for both, and there are times or neither. We agree that, in any case, the time to expand has come.

You may expand north into the Purolincaltose, amongst your fellow Katka, as you see fit. Even those of the Yutalicen may fall under your gaze. However, the lands of the Berathi to your south are not to be disturbed under any circumstances. They are fierce and doughy fighters, worthy of respect and independence.

OOC: ehhhhhh… IC is IC. I'm a bit apprehensive here. >.>

To: Shevanah, Rosh of the Javani Roshate, Sennar, Prince of Astria

Consider yourselves both confirmed in your positions. Exatas.

From: Talephas, Redeemer of Man
To: The Fivefold Council of Kargan

Having investigated this matter further following the ascent of the Halyr Javan, I have come to a greater understanding of events in my dominions across the sea. We must resolve this now, so that we can turn our attention back to the greater Crisis in the South.

Having seen fit to examine the dispute, I will offer you this proposal. That the Lord Exarch of Caon may remain in his position, provided that he submit and kneel to Sennar, the rightful Prince of Astria. And that while *further* Aitahist proselytizing in Astria will be banned, in recognition of Astria's status as a Maninist nation, those few Astrians who follow that goddess will not be forcibly converted or otherwise threatened, providing that they too remain loyal to Sennar.

Furthermore, considering the matter of the Maninists under Shevanah who wish to be independent, I believe it will not harm the Kargani to allow this small slice of territory to secede from your telkathai [1]. This is mountainous territory far from the water, and it is not a natural homeland for Faronai or Reppavai alike.

It would merit your wisdom not to force them to remain in bondage to your rule, you who speak so often and so loudly of freedom.
