Expanded Great People Names Redux

Alexandros has not been added. In the current version, it's still Pyrrhos.

Also, I was under the assumption that Sid Meier was a naturalized citizen.
Can anyone verify that for me?

And Justin Beiber and Carly Rae Jensen. They've both made significant negative contributions in society. Being a classical music geek, I find their music to be complete %#%$.

But I didn't know that Sid Meier was Canadian. That's pretty neat.

He resides in Maryland with his wife though (American?)
so I'm trying to search if he has American citizenship or not, even if it's via marriage.
But I haven't found anything really conclusive and it's kind of disappointing considering this is a Civ-oriented site.
I've been thinking of giving America 12 GPs in each category instead of 10 though.
I'll likely see Charles Goodyear safely back into the Great Engineer list as well;
the reason why I put Sid Meier in Great Engineers was because of consistency,
seeing as how Miyamoto Shigeru is in Great Engineers for Japan.

And Canada has plenty of good modern music.
Crystal Castles, LIGHTS & Metric are all amazing.
I like Carly Rae Jepsen as well although I shall abstain from commenting on Justin Bieber.

Anyways, working list of Great Artists for the Netherlands:

Peter Paul Rubens
Rembrandt van Rijn
Joost van den Vondel
Johannes Vermeer
Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck
Tiesto

And a work in progress list for Mexico:

Juana Ines de la Cruz
Diego Rivera
Frida Kahlo
Octavio Paz Lozano

Yeah, Carly Rae Jepsen is alright.

Which is proven by the fact that I was under the impression that she's American :D

If so, then we should put Markus Persson as a Great Engineer for Scadinavia!

IMO, though, I think that game designers should be Great Merchants (especially Miyamoto), but I digress.

In addition, Walt Disney and Hayao Miyazaki should be Great Artists for America and Japan, respectively. (Disney could be a Great Merchant instead of an Artist.)

If I include Disney, he'll be a Merchant.

And if I include a Japanese animator, Tezuka Osamu takes precedence over Miyazaki as his influence over the medium is far greater and felt.

Katsuhiro Otomo as a Japanese artist?

In terms of influence, and with all due respect, Mr. Otomo has failed to reach the saturation point.

I would likely include Miyazaki Hayao, Takahashi Rumiko & Masamune Shirow in this upper echelon, but all of them owe an ancestral debt (in the medium) to Tezuka Osamu;
similarly how I included Howard Pyle in the American list for American illustrators, even though I would have loved to include such illustrators like Charles Dana Gibson or Margaret Brundage.

this is a joke right?

Why not?

Though seriously, while Persson did make one game that was immensely successful, he...didn't do much else. So unless he starts actually changing the video game industry as a whole, we probably shouldn't include him.

Though by that logic, we shouldn't include Sid Meier either! (Singlehandedly creating the 4X genre notwithstanding.)

You do know he is actually Canadian?

In game, Canada itself does not exist. Its territory is entirely within the historically stable territory of the US, and the US does settle here. IRL, Canadian culture is extremely similar to that of the US. Thus, the closest thing to having him being born in Canada is to have him be born in the US!

That's quite comprehensive; I'll review the submissions and likely include them in the next version.

Thank you very much for your contribution.

I had to branch off into a lot of patrons and pre-Mughal people. But since the Mughals spawn pre-Mughal, I think it fits.
No, thank you for putting them in.

Wow, great. Is that in chronological order?

Unfortunately not, let me edit it.

It's now in order

Thanks.
