Fox09 - This Means War!

First the "joke"

Spoiler :
Q: What's orange and sounds like a parrot

A: A carrot

Well it appears we have just one fleet, so concentrate on starting a second, which means more galleons.

I think the best plan is to go after Hammurabi (who can research Military Tradition) and use a new attack fleet to go after Genghis and Joao. These are the top 3 in score so probably the most dangerous.

Railroad comes in and I have the choice between Combustion and Artillery. I'm not sure we need either (ie we will win anyway) but go Combustion as Transports and Destroyers will get us there quicker.

Joao seems to want to launch an invasion. I hope they were full of troops as they were all sunk.

I played up to Combustion coming in (and stuck research on Artillery). Hammurabi had 5 cities razed (including one size 13), Genghis 3. I lost 2 rifles and 1 grenny. A fair trade I say. No cannons lost and 2 promoted to CR3 in both existing fleets :goodjob:

Island city may be a problem (ie we may actually lose a troop).

I didn't upgrade any of the navy but we should. This will use up our cash, so maybe a market or grocer would be advisable as well.

Possible invasion plan.

1 and 2 are existing fleets, 3 one in progress. We should aim to send it out with Artillery coming in (ie build cannons and upgrade them).

Looking good ... the joke makes no sense but the game is proceeding well. This one is in the bag. As I said, we shall have gone for Emperor :D

If Artillery is coming in, might it not be better to build destroyers/transports/grenies/rifles now and build arties later (rather than cannon now and upgrade later)? Unless, of-course, we already have a third fleet (sans siege) ready.

"sounds like parrot" = "rhymes w/parrot" not "makes a sound like a parrot" ~ ;)

The nasty joke
Spoiler :
This Scottish farmer walks into the neighborhood pub, and orders a whiskey.

"Ye see that fence over there?" he says to the bartender. "Ah built it with me own two hands! Dug up the holes with me shovel, chopped doon the trees for the posts by me ownself, laid every last rail! But do they call me 'McGregor the Fence-Builder?' No..."

He gulps down the whiskey and orders another. "Ye see that pier on the loch?" He continues, "Ah built it me ownself, too. Swam oot into the loch to lay the foondations, laid doon every single board! But do they call me 'McGregor the Pier-Builder?' No."

"But ye . .. .. .screw just ONE sheep...."

Turn 395 Preturn
I use some cash to upgrade our navy to destroyers and will send them out to our 2 armies to replace the frigates. Ill send those frigates back home. And By the way. I did something really stupid this turnset. I didnt realize we could build rails until 2/3 of the way through. I started the set by building the market and grocer first and by hiring merchants.

Turn 398...Razed a city of Hammy and Jao
Turn 401...Razed a city of Jao
Turn 402...This stack doesnt have a woodsman 3, so it takes forever to heal
Civ4ScreenShotd1.jpg

Turn 404...Razed a city from Hammy
Turn 406...Artillery comes in. I turn research off. I click on Assembly Line, but we still need to go through quite a few techs to get there. Next person can change it if they like.
Turn 408...Great Scientist popped and settled. Raze a city of Jao which gets us another GG. Settle him and now all future units will come out at 3 promotions.
Turn 409...Raze a city of Hammy
Turn 410...Last turn
Civ4ScreenShotD2.jpg

Weve got a 3rd stack allmost ready to go. Thats stack is on the gems. To the right of that stack is 2 Destroyers and 3 transports. It can hold 12 units. There are 11 units on the gems.....you can either finish the artillery in the que and make the stack 6 seige and 6 units or change the artillery to a rifleman and make the stack 5 seige and 7 units...your choice. I have 1 grenny in the stack promoted to woody 2...hes 1 promotion away from woody 3 and he can heal the stack. I also have 1 rifle promoted to guerilla 2 so he can be the last attacker for a hill city. He can attack and get back to the stack for safety.

This might help you decide who to go after next
Civ4ScreenShotd3.jpg

This is the stack in Jaos lands. The stack is only 4 turns from home right now. You might want to send it back soon to upgrade the cannons. You can also make a Grenadier woodsman3 in 1 turn for this stack. It needs it.
Civ4ScreenShotd4.jpg

This is the army in Hammys lands. I had to skirt around the western end to reach his southern port cities so the destroyers could bombard. The cannons are running out of steam fast against his knights. You might want to send our 3rd army at the capitol now down here to relieve this stack as it needs artillery soon.

City Screen...workers are putting down rails now

Yes you can build rails with oil now. Only reason I caught it was we lost the quarry in my turnset due to a random event. I put the workers on the quarry and the railroad icon was lit...then a lightbulb over my head was lit.

lurker's comment: Hey guys!

I just wanted to point out one little thing: you haven't researched hunting yet!

And @pholk: once you need to start explaining your jokes you know you got star rating on bad jokes! Congratulations! :goodjob:

Now, this is really boring.

It is razing cities after cities. I am starting to see cities getting respawned ... so may be we should build more destroyers just to patrol the waters so that settling party get sunk.

Anyway, if you are interested, here are the photos our boys sent back:

It got so boring for the machine gun at home, just watching pictures after pictures of cities being razed, that he started to tell dumb blond jokes to the CGIII Grenie:

Spoiler :
A blond who got tired of people telling of dumb blond jokes that she decides to prove she has got the brains, in addition to the boobs. So, after reading and memorizing real hard for a month, she walks confidently to her classmates and declared she can tell them the capitol of any state.

Skeptical, one boy decides to try, "Alright, let's see. What is the capitol of Wisconsin?"

A smile broke out across the blond's face, as she triumphantly declared: "W".

Other than stupid blond jokes, some events also brightens their days:

Fox09-AD1802-event.jpg

Ha, Divine Rights? Interesting event.

Another one is here:

Fox09-AD1808-mongo-event.jpg

As I am pretty righteous myself, I would ofcourse not choose "No good deeds go unpunished" (how ghastly!). Let's see what happens if we have +1 relations ... and peace then war is the result.

Idiot.

I do have some plans for marshalling our troops:

Fox09-AD1820-plan.jpg

Feel free to ignore. But I think the more powerful stack should go take care of Mongolia, which sports grenies as defenders, while the two weaker stacks go after weaker opponents while waiting for more reinforcement.

Imhotep is UP

hey - did you see the barbarian frigate (or similar) in the picture where Lagos fell - I didn't know they could build frigates. Or is that one of those new fangled pirates?

I see it, but have better or more precisely more sorrowful things to do. I mourn for the dog of my parents who died this morning. Therefore please skip me, I can't think of playing...

Okay, got it ~

May Angels sing him/her to the great field of lame-legged cats ~

guess since he is one who aim high for challenge, a puny easy game like this one wouldn't be worthy of his attention.
oh my god ~ dude ~ what is your problem lately?? I can't even tell if your joking anymore or genuinely annoyed ~

my apologies all, i played 2 nites ago and never posted:
Spoiler :

Santa was very cross. It was Christmas Eve and NOTHING was going right.
Mrs. Claus had burned all the cookies. The elves were complaining about not getting paid for the overtime they had while making the toys. The reindeer had been drinking all afternoon and were dead drunk. To make matters worse, they had taken the sleigh out for a spin earlier in the day and had crashed it into a tree.
Santa was furious. "I can't believe it! I've got to deliver millions of presents all over the world in just a few hours -- all of my reindeer are drunk, the elves are on strike and I don't even have a Christmas tree! I sent that stupid Little Angel out HOURS ago to find a tree and he isn't even back yet! What am I going to do?"
Just then, the Little Angel opened the front door and stepped in from the snowy night, dragging a Christmas tree. He says, "Yo, fat man! Where do you want me to stick the tree this year?"
And thus, the tradition of angels atop the Christmas trees came to pass....

All in all, I razed a total of 8 cities.
Razed Arrapkha
Razed Shaduppum
Razed Beshbalik
Razed Arbela
Razed Tutub
Razed Karakorum
Razed New Sarai

The destruction proceeds apace. We got Corporation and are 20 turns or so from Industrialism. Infantry will further seal the deal for us.

I built a new destroyer or two and upgraded others, so we’ve got some ships able to keep an eye on the nearby islands to stop settlings. I also just loaded up a lone transport to take out the nearby Mongolian cities w/1 gren and another w/2 workers defending. We also have the beginnings of another stack being built.

Here’s some shots of the 2 armies (I combined them):
Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

This army can finish off the bigger Mongolian cities, and then move onto Portuagal.

Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

These guys can finish off Babylon, but they’ll take a bit longer as they need reinforcements for some artillery and perhaps rifleman/infantry.

Finally, there a large Mongolian Frigate fleet there heading towards Beijing (@ the Red Dot).
Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

I’ve got these destroyers here, and a couple more by the city so that we can go ahead and sink these guys.

Huh? Why would I be annoyed? At what? I'd got no tree stuck up my a$$ ...

But, (there is always a but), you should at least clean up the signs I posted. The next player is gonna to be confused by it.

The game is progressing nicely, the mock up phrase is gonna turn boring. Play 10~20 turns as you wish from now on. Hopefully, it doesn't returns to me.

I am going to start the emperor in the next few days (you may reserve your spots now) ... since half the crew are in RotQM6, I expect to be able free up some slots :mischief: for newbies ...
