Fox09 - This Means War!

My suggestion is to put the research off of steam power and onto Physics, then Artillery. Thats 27 turns of research plus the free scientist from physics and we get monster siege. We are down to 2 cannons in total. We might build a unit in 1 turn, but we are losing units too. Artillery would solve that completely. With 6 Artillery and 6 Grennies or Riflemen, 4 Galleons, and 3 frigates...thats a stack that can take any city without any losses and keep moving. And as those artillery gain experience.....who cares if the enemy get rifles or grennies...artillery will tear through them without any losses. We need siege to reduce that first defender down, but we will lose alot of cannons.

that's a good point re: seige ~ we're currently taking down the 20% cities w/our frigates, but I was using our one canon to knock down that first guy.

and no, there was no GM ~

I checked the save yesterday ( @ the work now ) and I agree with Physics ->Artilery option.... We get a free GS, got a primary anti ship unit for anti landing proposes ( Airships ), and we'll get Arties that will solve our lack of siege problem. After that we should pursue destroyers.....

Will play and post tonight

Somewhat uneventful turnset....

Started by switching research to Physics (as suggested ).

finished galleon and started bank ( to help with the costs ) and after that built units until the end of the turnset ( at the rate of 1/turn, by MMing overflows ), mainly rifles and cannons ( with some naval units in the middle )

Called the fleet home ... this was the only action that my turnset saw:

We're 1 xp away from a GG...

I noticed that our workers were fortified ( I know someone that would rant about this  ) and decided to do a investement for the future ( P.S I would convert all the patures and mines out of the BFC to forts, because they can hold airunits and ease the manovering of the fleets )

This is our current tech situation. Notice that some civs already ( or should we say finally? .lol: ) have gunpowder, including João

Some regards:

Now that we have some extra troops I think that we should attack the Portuguese core cities. João is by far the best leader of the ones we have in the map in terms of naval fighting ( IMHO he's preparing a Naval SoD ATM to drop on us... ) and has a lot of cities, so we'll be harder to erase ( and it has a bigger $ reward overall: so many cities to burn  )

And the joke ( a bad blonde one, to revive old days ) :
Spoiler :
Why blonds don't eat bananas?
Spoiler :
Bananas don't come with instructions of how to open them.....

The war is progressing smoothly. I doubt I'll see this game again. Thanks for making my job easy team :goodjob:

First the joke:

Spoiler :

Q: Why are quantum physicists so poor at sex?
A: Because when they find the position, they can't find the momentum, and when they have the momentum, they can't find the position.

Yes, I studied quantum mechanics as an undergrad. This one made me chuckle.

Now on to the game!

Turn 363 - we finish physics. The GS is settled.

Turn 363-367ish - I raze 2 of Survy's cities on the way south towards Pacal. I incur some losses on the second city, a double holy city that was built on a hill. He had guerilla 2 LB's which won at about 20-30% odds. Oh well. I send out a galleon with some recruits to help compensate for the losses.

371 - steam power is in. I also start sending out airships to check out the area nearby.

373 - GP is born, and settled.

382 - Mayans are no more, as they lose their last two cities. I suffered 0 losses against the Mayans.

Research is on railroad towards combustion. Once we get destroyers, there really isn't much the AI can do to stop us. Survy has lost his capital and double holy city (plus one more odd city somewhere) so his teching has dropped a lot. I'd just send the fleet eastwards towards Joao or Khan. Or maybe Boudica. Hammurabi doesn't look like much of a tech threat in this game but Khan and Boudica can research chemistry now.

I also had an encounter with 3 naval landing attempts by the AI. The first was Joao, followed by a simultaneous east/west attack by Boudica and Hammurabi. I couldn't stop all the ships so Hammurabi landed a few troops + lots of siege but the garrison mopped them up in 2 turns or so. All three of their fleets have sunk to the bottom of the sea - we probably won't see another attempt any time soon. It's sad that the AI has to "defend" their galleons with caravels...

We also had this nice random event during my set:

Nope sorry, I went towards combustion. Feel free to swap back to artillery if you want but I don't think it's going to speed up victory that much :D

In the other news, we got 5-star rating yet again [party]

2 votes of 5 * .... the same number of Fox 8.... Confess , which 2 of you voted? :p  *runs away from ( 2 people ) angry mob*

On more serious business, I'm fine with both Combustion and Artilery... both give more :ar15: options. And who is going to be next target? I'm for killing João.... but Hammy would go nicely as well

It is the number of people who voted. The rating will only show if 2 or more votes has been registered. If you looked at the top, just below the row of page numbers selection on the right, you can see a "Rating" button. It now shows 5-stars besides it. Click on it and you can vote to give this thread some stars. But why would anyone choose anything less than 5 for such an excellent/entertaining thread is beyond me ... :D
