Game Mechanic Discussion: Independent Peoples/City-States

Cons:
1. I assume independent powers are significantly stronger than barbarian camps in previous civs, so cleaning nearby land, especially after age transition spawn could be quite hard (HK has quite similar problem as it has similar system)

That could be a pro, depending on how they implement it and what type of game you enjoy. Personally, I like the idea that you can't establish a new settlement anywhere in the world unless you can project enjoy military force into the area to protect the new settlement. The empty maps of earlier Civ games could be fun, but for a new version I'd rather see the game move away from that and towards the (historically real) complexity that everywhere is already occupied, so if you want to expand, you need a way to force your way in. In some situations, the game might also allow influence or trading posts or the like to open that door, too.

However you are right we don’t know (also that Shawnee stream was in Exploration age…it could be Stone Heads is the Exploration era Cultural IP improvement…and the Shawnee have the American graphics for it (olmec)…Hawaiian building them would probably look like Easter Island…not sure of others.
America could have the Olmec-style Heads, Europe could have henges in earth, wood or stone, or Dolmens in various arrangements, Maumbury Rings, Carnac stone lines, Cromlech stone monuments. Central Asia had Tumulus monuments and the Mongolian 'deer stones'.

There are also several 'Wonders' from pre/proto-history that could be adopted:

Gobekli Tepe monuments in Anatolia
Tarxian Complex on Malta
Newgrange in Ireland
Rujm-i-Hiri (Tumulus of the Wild Cat) in Syria
Dolmens of the North Caucasus
Silbury Hill in England
Uffington White Horse in England

Each of these is pretty distinctive, and with the Olmec carvings and generic Carnac and Cromlech and Henge arrangements, would provide enough variety for just about every region to have a graphically-distinct Antiquity Cultural IP Improvement.

Jumbopixel was commenting on the the city-states and he said when he played the permanent levy feature was ridiculously overpowered. Which is exactly what I would expect.
Well, since it most likely cost you influence, that means you forgo its other uses. Buying ressources or getting cultural deals is also rather nice.

Also you have to take into account support during wars, which cost a hefty amount of influence...

Do we know if suzerain bonus options are restricted by city-state type (ie scientific, cultural, militaristic, etc) or if any bonus can be chosen for any city-state in that Age?

"Know" is a strong word, but the screenshots from the short suggest with their way of ordering that the available bonuses depend on the type of city state and age.

A question: can independent people/city-states conquer other cities? If they can, do they keep them or destroy them?
