You ever seen any of his pre-Gilligan stuff? It's always surprised me the few times I've seen him pop up in things. Mainly westerns for some reason.

He played red-shirt (expendable) Dr. Carlson who gets killed so that Meacham and Ruth can get away from the aliens in This Island Earth. He was a war hero, and a buddy of Audie Murphy - hence the Westerns. He's still alive (last surviving Gilligan cast member) somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

Westerns were really popular back then, so nearly everybody ended up in them at least once. I did see him in something, but don't remember what. Did he ever guest star on Bonanza?
