GR29 - AWM vs 30 civs, Pangea

I'll repeat this here, if only for CB's benefit. I'll be travelling, and unavailable to play, until about August 25. I do regret leaving you gentlemen to play in a three-man rotation, with Daeron gone too. You might want to allow yourselves two weeks per round, or something similar.

Anyway, everything seems to going smoothly in this game. The point at which we'll be in an unassailable position with rails built isn't far off now.

I may take longer than normal to finish this. I spent the weekend reloading windows and still have the other game that requires me to play sooner, so I may extend into next weekend to finish this. I may be able to finish 5 turns sooner, but weekdays are hard for me and even 5 may be impossible before the weekend.

If you guys don't mind, I could step in for a set of turns. I should have some time in the second half of July!

If you give me two weeks, I should be able to complate one set.

CBob is up in our France Demigod game.

Calis, I'll take the liberty of quoting myself on this, because if you overlook it you'll have some units unpleasantly stranded:

There are enough workers beneath the knight army and other units two tiles north of Iri in the central west to build them a road before they move next turn.

I don't know how much maximum-size AW you've played, but this is a hard position to mess up ;), as long as you keep our eastern wall basically intact. Opening a hole in the north every so often, as discussed in my report, is fine if you feel confident about it. But I wouldn't be ambitious about taking Babylonian cities.

Don't attack major enemy cities with single armies--always with two, so that if things go badly one army can shield the other. Where junk cities are concerned, it's up to you.

Good luck!

Thank you for the hints. I intended to read some posts before playing anyway.

Got the save and had a first glance...

Although this is the first time, I am playing an AW game on such a map, I am confident not to mess up too much ;)

Just to let you guys know:

I was rather busy last week (including the weekend). Thus, I just managed two turns so far, but this week is looking better...

Note that there is no fixed number of turns you need to do. Some people do 5, some do 10, and sometimes it is some other number. All are acceptable, though most aim for 5 or 10 to stop at.

If you enjoy it enough to want to do more turns, then we have (more than one) open spots.

Actually I just played another turn and I really start enjoying this :D

I will play unitl the comming weekend whatever I am able to do.

I just want to hear the opinion of the people on one matter:

In the east there is the city of Satsuma and it has Bach's Cathedral in it. I definately think that this is a fantastic wonder for this map. But at size 12 the flip risk is just too high. So after capturing it I leave it undefended to allow the Japanese to get it back. This way the city can shrink into a more manageable size and as a side effect, we can get some more gold from the Japanese. At least as they take it back and not another civ that is first in play order

Is there any reason, not to do it that way?

We have done this before and it should be alright. We should not let such a great city get burnt

Here is the log of the first five turns:

I will continue until the weekend and then post whatever I could finish!

Fine work. :goodjob: I'm glad you got started on our cheap universities.

Several of our slaves get captured. They were positioned close to Japanese territory.

This was intentional, since we couldn't keep those slaves and also push on against Japan's rich cities. I scattered the slaves to lure as many enemies as possible onto inconvenient tiles.

Oh, and a little brain-teaser: right now the little Google ad at the top right is offering Lesbian dating services. I think I can see why; does anyone else have a theory? ;)

Now I am knocking at Seouls door. It has Leo's. Is this wonder of any interest to us? Somewhere I read that arty units should not be upgraded. On the other hand once Japan is eliminated, we will have tons of gold available.

Any comments?

We can keep Leo's but shouldn't upgrade arty
