Gr7 - AWM vs 30 civs on a giant map

You are right Lee. That's what I get for just whipping this stuff out there without engaging my brain first.

I changed the pic in the previous post.
BTW, I know I am up and I will grab this tomorrow.

looking good, I would get the iron hooked up as soon as possible to fight with swords.

Where are the horses?

Btw, I like the latest dot map, though red dot has lowest priority and could be done later.

Here's my take:
GR7-bugs_dotmap.JPG

The new red dot will get the whale on expansion. The new light blue dot has a game and a fish. I'm not sure about pink dot. It might be more defensive than productive. Green dot might be better at 1W instead of 1NW, but we'll have to see what's there

This dot map wastes a tile up NE of the original red dot. Yellow dot needs to be next.

Your red dot is where I had it originally.

There really isn't a great layout for that area...

You guys will probably regret for the tight build on such a huge map. There are at most 512 cities. Check out AG3 for example, you really want to fully use 21 tiles, especially for your core.

I have a feeling Microbe is dead on here.

What do you guys think of going OCP?

Maybe you are right, but we are in a AW game and we need the tighter setting now, since we don't have fast units. Once we start hitting the city limit and we got our Iro horses, we could loosen the builds.

By the way, I would let the warrior explore the west since it seems to be the end of the world (no enemy from there which suggests there is ocean all the way). And, are we going for the GL? It would give us the chance to save some money for upgrades etc. Maunch Chunk looks like a good GL spot.

OCP will make each city have to survive on its own. Unless we get fast units that is just to dangerous IMHO.

I don't like the idea of OCP here.

Remember, we have the potential to be at war with 29 civs. Life has been peaceful so far, but all hell may break loose soon. I agree with Rat, was we get closer to the 512 city limit, we can loosen our core spacing.

Preturn: Everything looks real good. No changes.

IBT: WTH!! The time to Math didn’t drop to 13 turns. It’s still at 14. We did lose 1 gold out of the treasury though.

GR7_Sci_screwup.JPG

Turn 1: 730 B.C. The archer by the incense moves 1 tile to the E and spots borders.
They aren’t red, so it isn’t Theodora. No contact yet.

IBT: Zzzzz

Turn 2: 710 B.C. Just managing the empire

IBT: Vikings complete the Pyramids in Trondheim.

Turn 3: 690 B.C. Gentlemen, we have found our horses!

IBT: Portuguese build MoM in Guimaraes.

Turn 4: SOS

IBT: Zzzzz

Turn 5: 650 B.C. St. Regis founded by the Iron.

IBT: Zzzzz

Turn 6: 630 B.C. Worker stuff.

IBT: We meet Cleo. She is up CB, Writing, Math and HBR. She has 12 cities and silks, but no Iron or Horses. No deals possible. We are at War with Egypt.

Turn 7: 610 B.C. Not much

IBT: Ports finish the Lighthouse in Lisbon.

Turn 8: Nothing worth reporting.

IBT: Iron is online. Cleo’s warrior is dead and ours promoted to vet.

Turn 9: 570 B.C. Swap some prebuilds to swords.

IBT: Germans complete Zeus in Berlin.

Turn 10: 550 B.C. Just move a couple of units and done.

Summary: Iron city founded and iron is online. First swords will be out in 3 turns. Found horses. Contact with Cleo and found borders to our SE. Let’s head for the horses and build MW’s and go kick some ass!!

@MarkH – I forgot to turn sci down before saving. It can go down one notch and still get Math in 3 at +3 gpt, instead of -4.

Here is the save.

A couple of screenshots.

well, now we have 2 and possibly 3 enemies, good that we get some swords out.

I see that Maunch Chunk is close to finishing the granary shouldn't it be changed to palace as GL prebuild? Just my thought. Maybe we can get a granary in our capital to turn it into a settler factory.

I will take it this evening after work (8 - 9 hours from now). Should we change the dotmap a bit after discovering the horses ? We can keep it and we could put the horse city SE of the horses, so it is still 3-tile spacing from the white dot of Bugsy's dotmap. There it could grab a wheat and whale after expansion. I am planning to place the next city at the white dot then going for our one and only true, loyal, four-legged friends in this game to go for some :hammer: Although I think I will not reach it during my turns.

agree with settling white dot and then the suggested spot to claim the horses. We should have a combination of MW and swords (a sword has 2 defense while the MW has only 1)

Do we want to build ON the horses?
We have already found the Byzantines and the dromons that WILL bombard land.

What I like with the map is that I see a natural point for an even front line. :D
Nobody will bother us from the west.

I don't know about the GL. This is Monarch and it's not a must have by a long shot. I think I would rather have the 13 swords and MW's that 400 shields would build.
I'm interested in what the rest of the team thinks about this...

It would be nice to get a granary in Salamanca.

How away calling it a food factory. We also need more workers. Cities like 2 fish hit peak production after mining 2 hills. Not to mention roads to the horses, furs, incense, etc.

Lee, I got us two more workers but we need more for sure.

Proposed dotmap.

lurker's comment: Probably a stupid question, but why not build Pink Dot 1NW? It keeps water access and doesn't waste two squares (desert and forest) between White Dot, Blue Dot, and Tonawanda. It'll bring greater interference into the radii of the cities, but White Dot already has plenty of food and will have decent shields with mines up (and the forests already there) and Tonawanda and Blue Dot will mostly be food heavy cities (though, I guess with Agri you could mine desert and get results - and Tonawanda can always mine plains). Then again I usually hate wasting space unless there's a good reason, so, take it with some grains of salt.

I like pink dot there just because it is a looser build than 1NW would be. This map is 250X250. Space is one thing we have plenty of.
In fact now that we know we will have horses, I would like to go more for a OCP style city placement. That's just me though...
