Greek communication thread

Alright, then, thanks guys! Here's my revised reply. Just look over it again, and then i'll send it.

Dear MIA,

We have now received our free technology and it is the secrets of Feudalism. We are now praying to the Great Meelet to grant your people either the art of Engineering or the wisdom of Monotheism. My people have decided they would like to do a trade if you get a different freebie. So, if you get a different freebie then us, send it to us, then we will send you ours with accept, and then you guys can accept it. Remember, this is all assuming you get a different freebie then us.

Now, time for some news of the Iroqi War. Although the battles between our peoples have been reduced to rare skirmishes, we have been doing some calculations on the results of our battles with the Iroqi. We have found that the Iroqi have not lost a single battle in which they were attacking. :hmm: We hope our horrible luck will change in the future.

Goodbye for now.

Sorry greekguy, you'll have to modify your reply a little because here's another message from the Greeks. They think we're researching monarchy. hehehe Their message is not clear. Ask them if they've already sent monotheism to us with *accept*.

Greeting to the newly enlightened
Greeting Donsig grand vizier and good ambassador Greekguy :salute:

It seems that Meleet :worship: looks down and smiles on the true believers.

The gift freely given to us was Monotheism (36) and to you Feudalism(32). A knowledge trade while not equal in value, MIA believe that the outcome offered the best scenario that could be possible for rapid growth, prosperity and security. Now as per our agreement we will swap them between us and be strong ... please SEND Feudalism with ACCEPT as we require a strong military immediately.

We understand that you are busy researching Monarchy, once completed we were wondering if you would like to continue to combine our scientific strengths and research different Middle Age technologies with the aim of swapping them again, thereby furthering our respective leads on those that have forsaken the path of enlightened wisdom.

We are open to any ideas you may have on the subject especially if it incorporates a speedy neutralisation of the Great Library threat. Imagine seeing your technology lead dissolving when the backward team is gifted EVERY scrap of knowledge known by two others, especially if the main candidate for this is your mortal enemy the Nutters.

What say you? Will the Enlightened combine their brains :hmm:

We await your answer eagerly :D

Warmest regards

Here's my newly revised reply. I'll send it today if you guys think it is ok. also, should we tell them we aren't researching Monarchy?

Dear MIA,

Thank the Great Meelet! My people are very pleased that your freebie was Monotheism. We are willing and ready to trade our Middle Age freebies, however, we have one question. Did your people already send over Monotheism, or do we have to initiate the trade? Please tell us, as this will affect the timing of our tech swap. :)

Now, time for some news of the Iroqi War. Although the battles between our peoples have been reduced to rare skirmishes, we have been doing some calculations on the results of our battles with the Iroqi. We have found that the Iroqi have not lost a single battle in which they were attacking. We hope our horrible luck will change in the future.

Well, it's already our turn again so I loaded up the save and voila, the Greeks have offered monotheism. All we have to do is add feudalism to the trade and accept and then they'll accpect and the deal will be done. Som you don't have to ask them about it greekguy. :) Yes, tell them we are not researching monarchy. Tell them we've turned off research until we put our heads togethr and decide which of us is researching what. We need a way to counter the Great Library threat. One way is to get to education fast t obsolete the thing. Maybe we should ask them for suggestions.

Anyway, the three techs open to us (excluding monarchy) are chivalry, engineering and theology. We need a decision on which two of the three will be researched.

Engineering and Theology

Ok, let's try this again. you guys look over it, if it is good, i'll send it tomorrow. @donsig: tell MIA in the save email we're still discussing what our diplo message is, so they don't think we've forgotten. :)

Dear MIA,

Thank the Great Meelet! My people are very pleased that your freebie was Monotheism. We are willing and ready to trade our Middle Age freebies and are now going to send over Feudalism with accept. All you have to do is hit accept, and the deal is done. :)

Also, my people would like to start discussing future trade deals as part of our Alliance of Science (i think that should be our official alliance name, what do you think? :cooool:) First off, we would like to tell you we aren't researching Monarchy. We have decided to not pursue that form of government. Instead, we have turned off research until our two teams put our heads together, and figure out what we are going to research. The three choices are Theology, Chivalry, and Engineering. Please give your ideas on which techs to research and swap. Also, we should try to brainstorm some ideas to counter the Great Library threat that poses our teams. The quicker we can stop the Agri civs from using it to their advantage, the better. :)

Now, time for some news of the Iroqi War. Although the battles between our peoples have been reduced to rare skirmishes, we have been doing some calculations on the results of our battles with the Iroqi. Message looks good. Told the Greeks they'd be hearing from us soon.

That won't work, as it will only be obsoleted if they discover education. If we are far ahead in tech when they build it they will even get techs past education before it is obsoleted the same turn. The only way to counter the threat is capturing the city producing it or building it ourselves.

alright, message (finally) has been sent. :p

lurker's comment: Building the Great Library and then abandoning the city it's build in, does work :mischief:

:hmm: that would be an interesting strategy...absolutely deceptively evil, but interesting...

How about if the Science Alliance only trades the techs leading to education until the Greal Library is around? After it's obsolete we trade the other branch?

Good plan. That would reduce the usefullness for them as they will only get the rest of the AA techs, feudalism, monotheism, theology and education. That's still quite a few techs however. What about if we ask the greeks if they are planning to build it for the greater good of the science alliance?

Greeting greekguy of the TNT.

A good name for a strong and mutual friendship, we like the title Alliance of Science  ... BUT, before we discuss matters of a beneficial and positive nature, I must address something that disturbs us and seek clarification.

We have received the expected response from KISS, they received your letter where you informed them that you could not trade Construction with them. Their reaction was anger at being cut off from a Construction deal ... no surprise there  We are led to believe that they are stuck in the middle of researching Monarchy a logical move for a religious traited civilization and hence their reaction.

However, we were not expecting the level of venom in their correspondence and I suspect that there is a strong connection with the parting statement ... "Enjoy the war with MIA." We seek an explanation for this action and can only stress our strong disappointment, I am hoping that you are not trying to goad KISS into attacking MIA  So please reply soon as we cannot allow this type of diplomacy to continue and be sent without consultation ... as it directly affects us !!!

On to better topics ... and as mentioned Alliance of Science has a certain ring which is pleasing to the ear.

Options of Research
MIA will be starting Engineering 36(1080) ... Invention 44(1320) ... Gunpowder 48(1440)
This leaves the Chivalry 32(960) deadend or perhaps the GL neutralisation path of Theology 40(1200) ... Education 44(1320)

MIA feel better suited to start on Engineering, which will help both of us move across those rivers, and get better city killing weapons.

Also and paramount should be the issue of the Great Library and how it effects trading between us prior to neutralisation. We feel that the threat of the Great Library although always lurking, grows dimmer with each passing turn. At this stage of the game, our rivals would be foolish to invest 400 shields in this venture … and if they insisted on being foolish and shield wasteful, then I'm sure that someone or other can punish them for their foolishness with the 400 shields worth of army units. :mishief: However since it is a threat, should we ease off on trade prior to neutralisation? We would have your thoughts on this important issue.

Inorder to get a timeframe, could you inform us at what level beakers you are prepared to set your research levels, this will ensure a parity in our knowledge gathering.

Will you be changing governments or have you begun the change already, if so which type are you leaning towards?

I await your response with anticipation as I feel together ruling the Middle Ages is within our grasp. I am, as always at your service, book an AIM session (times must be stated in GMT) if you wish.

Foreign Minister MIA

 So MIA is *issed about the crack I made to the Galls!

:hmm: We'll have to come up with something to cover our tracks here. Were we misquoted? Any ideas what we should say about this?

Then there are a couple other issues. We should tell the Greeks we want to switch govs after the war. Let's not say which for now. We can't tell how many beakers we'll be able to make until we make peace and then go through an undetermined period of anarchy. We can only tell them the rate we can achieve now.

Holding off on trades are good to counter the Great Library threat but if we do that then the Greeks should research up to education because they can get there faster than we can. If they're not willing to do that then perhaps we should ignore the Great Library threat and just pursue our researches and make trades as we get new techs.

If they insist on going for engineering then we have to either reseach chivalry or theology. Do the Greeks want chivalry?

EDIT: This is what I said to the Galls: Hope your war against the Greeks goes well.

Let's tell MIA we were trying to find out if the Galls were thinking about attacking Greece so we could alert our friends. If we take that angle and apologize for it back-firing I think we'll be ok. ;)

could you guys please discuss and figure out how we should respond, before i write this one up? i'm asking for 2 reasons:

1) i kind of zone out when reading about tech costs and such, i find it boring. :p
2) i have to study for midterms and will have to for the next couple days, so i don't have time to write up a response today (i'll be able to find time tomorrow)

lol ditto for one

how come we are letting them decide which techs to research first?

they aren't decided by themselves which techs to research, we have to respond with what we think we should research. so, you guys tell me what you think we should research, etc., and i'll write up a reply.

Well if we can try and get hold of military tradition early we can knock out the iroqi before they even get close to an adequate defence for them, we'll also be able to build cannons, thats just my opinion though.

I sent this to the Greeks as I felt I should explain what I said to the Galls.

Greetings Minister Feaurius III,

greekguy is writing up our latest diplomatic message. You should receive it soon. Will still have not resumed our researching as we do not want to duplicate your efforts. The big question is do we (MIA and TNT) want or need chivalry? If not, we can bypass it and work on theology and engineering bewteen the two of us. A secondary question is what (if any) steps do we take to counter the Great Library threat?

The main reason I'm writing is to apologize for gaffe I made. In my last communique to the Galls I decided to try a little *fishing* for information and said to them, I hope your war against the Greeks goes well. I figured they would deny there was a war afoot OR might start bragging about any plans they've laid. If the latter had been the case I would have reported what they said to you in hopes it would be of benefit to you and your people, our great friends. I never thought they's have the gall to complain to you about a silly remark I made. Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They are Galls after all, aren't they? In the future I will refrain from trying such espionage. Well, at least until we discover the proper way to do it. ;)

As I said earlier, you'll be hearing from greekguy soon. If you have anything to say about the two questions I posed above please write us.

I'm off to do battle with the Iroqi in the flatlands south of the Sacred Jungle.

sorry guys, but i can't write up a reply for the next couple of days. i've got midterms to study for, and i just can't find the time to write a reply. donsig, could you just tell the Greeks i'm studying at our newly built library at Dynopolis to increase my knowledge (or something like that, so they get the idea)? sorry for delaying diplomacy, but i've really got to study. once midterms are done, i'll be able to send out messages again.

No problemo. Here's what I sent them:

Greetings Minister Feaurius III,

Just a quick note to let you know that greekguy is currently indisposed. We've built our first library in Dynopolis and we can't seem to get greekguy out of the place. He keeps muttering something about midterms. We do not understand this phrase - it's all Greek to us. ;)
Until greekguy comes out of his library induced stupor I'll be responsible for communicating with you and your people.

My last note raised a couple questions regarding chivalry and the Great Library threat. My people have grown tired of war and so we are willing to forego the idea of chivalry in favor of engineering and theology. We only await your word on this. It will take us approximately twenty turns to learn either theology or engineering. Please not this does not take into account any down time in research due to anarchy. It the war can be ended we will seriously consider switching to a republican form of government.

Your last note seemed to indicate we should ignore the Great Library threat and just proceed with the Science Alliance and swap techs as we gain them. Is this assumption correct? If so, we need only lock down and firm up which tech each of us will research and then try to set out timing so that we'll each finish our research around the same time. (A tricky thing due to anarchy.) I suggest you research engineering and we research theology. Once research has begun we can keep in touch and adjust our efforts so as to finish at the same time, then we can trade the two techs and start over again on the next pair. I think this is a fair system as the one who can research faster will be able to ease off and collect gold while the slower researcher is catching up.

What say you to this proposal my friends?
