Greek communication thread

alright, i'll draw up a reply after we play our next turn.

Depending on when the Nuts play their turn, I'll post info in the pre-turn discussion thread. We may be able to send off a reply before we actually play the turn.

EDIT: Since the Greeks and we are both scientific we'll both get a free tech upon advancing to the middle ages. Hopefully, we'll get different techs. Perhaps we should bring this up soon.

Hello ... is there anybody out there?

I find myself pacing back and forth, back and forth ... all the while contemplating where all the game courtesy has gone.

We have responded to a somewhat urgent request made by your team offering a trade deal and so far after numerous efforts to get a reply ... are still being kept waiting.

Numerous also were the times I mentioned that my e-mail has been glitching up and am unsure if you received our draft Agreement for trade in your g-mail box.

I have yet to receive acknowledgement that you received it let alone discussing what was proposed, even though a number of turns have cycled through.

Please take the couple of minutes to reply.

I am still assuming that this is a communication problem and not a deliberate attempt to waste our time.

Regards and still pacing

fe3333au

Here's the reply I sent. Sorry for pre-empting your duties greekguy but fe333au seemed truly anxious. I see Rodi D has posted in the turn tracker thread so I'll try to get screenies up shortly. Greekguy, once we figure out who knows what you can send an official reply to the Greeks concerning the trade.

My apologies for not replying yesterday. Work has been busy and I'm Judge Advocate in the [civ4] demogame which has also required much of my time lately. Also, the war has not gone well. It has become a stanant thing and we are learning that it is not very easy to invade well defended territory. Our strength has been sapped and our taste for war satified. We have offered peace to the Iroqi but have heard nothing from them. The Iroqi may have to learn how difficult it is to invade well defended territory before the war ends. The Grand Vizeer. donsig, was killed leading an attack on the Iroqi. :(

We did recieve your parchment and were about to sign it when we heard from the Galls. They seem to know we are researching construction and want us to teach them its secrets when we learn them. The interesting point was their claim to have all ancient age techs (except construction). Last we knew they needed both horseback riding and currency. We do know they are in anarchy. We decided to hold off on signing the deal with you until we saw the save and tried to figure out who knew what. Any light you can shed on this matter would be appreciated.

We would also appreciate knowledge you have of relative military strengths. We are weak compared to the Iroqi, average compared to the Galls and you are weak compred to us. Perhaps by comparing what your military advisor ays with what ours says we both can get a better idea of the strength of the Iroqi and Galls.

We will have construction in two turns so we still have a little time to work things out. Let us hope we each get a different tech upon entering the middle ages.

Thanks Donsig

No offence taken nor intended, just wanted to see if e-mail was sending correctly.

I am sorry to hear that the war has stalled ... being Greek I have a saying that may give comfort, When one finds himself deep in the darkest of places, the only way is go is then up where each step has a brighter light

I am preparing another letter to perhaps persuade you to deal with us as opposed to the idiot KISS, however a chat would be most welcome my AIM is fe3333au.

But quickly regarding our Military Pophead Advisor ... we alas are Weak to all :(

EDIT: Here's our current science advisor screen. If we sign the Greek deal we'll still need code of laws and map making to advance to the middle ages.

whoops, sorry donsig. i didn't know you replied to fe3333au, as i got the same PM from him today. i sent this back to him:

I apologize for leaving you in the dark. We are still considering your trade offer and will hopefully have an answer today. I'm sorry I did not respond to your earlier PM about informing you if we received the document. Yes, we did, and we will sign it if we agree to the deal. Once again, sorry about being so tardy with a reply.

greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

i hope this doesn't mess anything up...

...anyway, are we going to accept the deal? if we do, i'll sign the document and send it off to MIA. also, i'll tell fe3333au in the letter i send to him later that i would be willing to AIM with him.

... another message from the Greeks and my short reply:

fe3333au said:
Hail Donsig son of Donsig

I trust the first Donsig met death with honour while taking some of his enemy with him into Death's embrace. :salute:

What once was entered into

First some history and you may already have suspected that, we had entered an agreement with KISS sometime ago. A sharing of research focus, they would supply Republic while we would research other technologies. Once completed KISS would swap Republic for all what we had learnt during the mutual research period. There was then an understanding that the remaining technologies would be divided between us to research and then swap. Unfortunately being an honourable people we were bound to this as we had signed the Agreement.

Bound by honour, even when we found that they had slowed their research to barely ticking over at 10% while ours was running at a gold deficit at 90%, even when the relationship strained when they expected us to supply knowledge prior to Republic being swapped, even when we ended up accumulating all technologies except Construction and Monarchy and were expected to supply all these for one technology for no extra compensation. KISS consistently abused our relationship, yet our honour required that we see our word through to the end.

Now, we have swapped recently accumulated technologies, which ended up being a deal very much in KISS' favour. The deal ended up giving them time to accumulate much gold, to establish embassies and to prepare for Republic which due to their trait, can be installed with little anarchy. We deeply regret giving them this edge, but could see no honourable way out.

So now the mystery of KISS acquiring Currency and Horseback Riding has been solved. Please trust us that we wanted this to happen even less than you did!

An Issue of Timing

We were wondering and this is only if you agree, that since we may be soon exchanging blows with KISS, we would very much like a little more time to bolster our defences. Even though we have a standing agreement to give a 10 turn grace period prior to the calling and commencement of hostile action, we no longer feel that we can trust KISS to adhere to this gentleman's agreement. We were therefore wondering if you would consider stalling the trade for a number of turns, during which you could totally switch research off and watch the gold accumulate.

However if you are eager to trade and do not wish to wait, that is acceptable to us and the swap shall commence at your call, we are at your service

The Deal of the Century

However, those dark days are behind us, and we believe a bright new day is dawning for both our peoples!

Now that we can honourably abandon our dealings with KISS, we are free to enter a grand Alliance where those with the scientific trait cooperate.

We believe we both have much to gain from each other. To foster trust and illustrate this point, we sent in the previous note data on relative military strengths obtained from the Pophead. We shall share the resulting information when we have the opportunity.

We offer you all of our technologies! (This includes everything you will need to advance into the Middle Ages, AND Republic) In exchange, we would only like you to give us Construction.

On to the Next Age ... Great men of Science unite

Then, as both our great Empires enter the next era together, we agree to swap our Free Middle Ages technologies.

Naturally, we will not trade any of this knowledge to Dnuts or KISS, and would expect you to do the same – although, what would they give either of us anyway?? We will be the two most knowledgeable people on this world! Think of the glory! :D

Help to ensure Two Free Technologies

We are trying to ensure we get different free Middle Age technologies – and would appreciate your input. We will send you this plan as soon as we hear from you about our proposed Scientific Alliance.

Sharpening of Swords

As relating to Military Matters – We won't expect you to aid us in our coming war with KISS, unless you want a piece of the action? In which case we would welcome the help. ;) Naturally, war on our border will prevent us from aiding you against the Dnuts in any very helpful ways, aside from helping you jump way ahead in the tech race! However, we believe all future joint military actions can be negotiated. Neither side has to promise anything at this stage.

If peace with the Dnuts falls through, we have a warrior wandering peacefully your continent. We are respecting all cultural barriers, however we have seen things and if you direct us, we could be an extra eye for your campaign.

Let us know soon what your thoughts are ... we are happy to change any part of the arrangement to suit your needs.

This is the perfect opportunity for both our peoples to leap ahead and become the dominant powers of this world!

All right greekguy, the ball's back in your court. :) It seems as though the Greeks are offering us polytheism, code of laws, literature, philosophy and republic for construction. What a deal! We need to verify that's what they're offering. I'm not sure why they want to hold off on the trade. Would you please ask them why they want to wait and how long they wish to wait? We won't have construction for two turns anyway. Perhaps the waiting is to synchronize our jump to the middle ages? Not sure how we can improve our chances of getting different free techs. We should tell them we are eager to finalize a Scientific Alliance and would consider holding off on the construction trade but we are anxious to have literature so we can begin the construction of libraries. Let's see if they'll give us literature now in return for and agreement in principle concerning the future trade of construction for map making, code of laws, polytheism and republic. We would also agree (now) not to sell or trade construction to the Galls or Iroqi.
Let's try to get an idea of where their warrior is. My guess is the southwest of our continent.

Here is my proposed reply. Please give me feedback, as this is the most important correspondence we will be sending the Greeks so far this game!

Dear MIA,

We are delighted to hear that you would like to form a Scientific Alliance with us. Our people have always discussed internaly about using our Scientific trait to its advantage...this would definitely accomplish that! My people are more than eager to agree to this Alliance of the Intelligent with such brillant people such as yourselves. With the combined knowledge of our peoples, we would be the most powerful civilizations on the planet! :)

Concerning your proposed trade deal of all Ancient Age techs (excluding Monarchy) in exchange for Construction (that is the deal, correct?), we would gladly accept. My people, however, are curious about why you wish to hold off on this trade deal. Also, how long do you wish to wait until we swap technologies? Of course the condition of not trading to D'Nuts or KISS will be held. Although, we have one small request. For our people to maximize our brains, we need to build buildings which store books. We believe they are called libraries. We kindly ask of you to gift us Literature now, with the condition the trade deal will go as planned, once we discover Construction in 2 turns. We hope this request can be met.

News of the Iroqi War is, as you know, not good. Our troops are being killed by unfortunate RNG luck, and the war has come to a standstill. We will continue to try to fight off D'Nuts, but any hopes of conquering them in the near future have been brutualy squashed. Currently we are trying to make peace with the Iroqi, but they have been unwilling to concede to our demands. (They won't even accept donsig using the title "Grand Vizeer of the Ironic and Iroqi people  ) One question we have for you regarding the war is the location of your scouting warrior. If you could tell us its general location on our continent, it would greatly aid us in this war.

Good bye for now.

Just add "except monarchy" in there, and it's fine.

Edited in the change. thanks for catching that.

Proposed chance in italics - not taking anything out just tacking something on the end of one sentence:

...once we discover Construction in 2 turns or later if you wish to delay the main part of the trade.

EDIT: What do you all think about loaning the Greeks some gold? If we offer to give them, say 60 gold now in return for literature, with the understanding that they'd give us the 60 gold back when we do the construction trade, they may be more willing to part with lit now. It also tells them we trust them and are not just looking for a handout or trying to take advantage of them like the Galls did.

We aren't currently in need of an abundance of cash, so I would be fine with that.

Proposed addition in italics. greekguy, use your judgement and send this off soon. It is now the Nuts' turn and will soon be ours, then MIA follows. If we get this out quick we could have lit on turn 90. :)

We kindly ask of you to gift us Literature now, with the condition the trade deal will go as planned, once we discover Construction in 2 turns or later if you wish to postpone the main part of the trade. In return we are willing to help you out with an immediate loan of 60 gold. This amount can be paid back when the main construction deal is completed. (You are invited to sugest other methods of making repayment.) We hope this preliminary deal is satisfactory.

ok, i sent the reply to the Greeks. I added in the changes donsig suggested in the above post. thanks for the feedback guys, you really helped make this message flow much better. :)

This looks like a really good deal.

Anyway, yes I'm back! And active (hopefully) from this moment forward.

New reply from the Greeks. Once i get an ok from anyone here that the exact deal they sent us is ok, i'll sign the document and send off a reply.

To greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

We are gladdened, nay thrilled that our nations have been able to come to this epic agreement and look forward to many future trades as well. Our scribes have finishished the final touches on the official document to send you.

http://imageshack.us/?x=my6&myref=http://forums.civfanatics.com/private.php?do=showpm&pmid=305472

You will notice that we altered the final arrangement in that it is unnecessary on our end to delay the trade at all.

Basically we see the trade happening in this order ...

Turn 89
> TNT will send 60gp
> MIA send Literature and Code of Laws with ACCEPT

Turn 90
> TNT send Construction with ACCEPT
> MIA send everything else with ACCEPT:D
> MIA enters Middle Ages

Turn 91
> TNT enters the Middle Ages

Praise Meleet:worship: ... Swap the free MA Techs if they differ.

Wondering about our Wandering One
Regarding our warrior, he is mid continent slashing swamp and jungle and following the sun ... How much of your world have you explored?

I trust that this will mark a new era in trust and friendship betwixt the teams of science.

btw, great to see you back Strider. :)

donsig said:
Should we ask when they're going to pay back the 60 gold?
We should probably ask about that after the deal is executed. Else we risk having to clarify or discuss the deal further which could just delay it.

i sent a message to MIA accepting the deal and signed the document with our mark. here's the PM i sent them:

Dear MIA,

Our team was overjoyed to hear that you would be offering such a fair trade deal to our people. We have gladly accepted, and we pray that we receive different free MA techs upon entering the new age of science. This new bond of friendship we have formed today will be remembered for years to come. May the Alliance of Science dominate the world and destroy D'Nuts and the Galls!

Here is the document with our mark as requested:

I am looking foward to continue diplomatic correspondence in the years to come. May this deal signal the beginning of the end for the enemy Agricultural civilizations!

Goodbye for now.

hi guys! i just had an AIM chat with MIA FA rep fe3333au. it was mostly to smooth over the details of our big trade, but future possibilities came up as well. we decided our 2 teams should work to start research on 2 differnt MA techs, to maximize the chance of getting 2 different freebies. also, he seemed interested in trading for gems when i mentioned we are going to be working on hooking them up. a deal about gems might have some promise in the future. anyway, the AIM chat went well, and i think it solidified the Alliance of Science. (in our next PM to the Greeks i should propose making that our official alliance name) :)

How did you make the snazzy document???

Are we going to be looking to make this alliance stronger in the future possibly through use of a military alliance.
