Have you bought guns for the rev?

What about all of you lefties insisting that the 2nd Amendment only applied to a government funded Militia and not an individual?

I guess now that the Government is not Progressive you start to see the danger in having only the State having access to weapons. If you guys are serious you should join the NRA and help defend the 2nd Amendment. The gun control laws used by the Nazis in WW2 Germany are the basis for all of the gun control laws in the USA. An unarmed man is a Subject, an armed man is a Citizen.

Again thanks to Trump there will be more widespread support for protecting the 2nd Amendment :) You just got to love the way we are starting to become united again as one people.
The NRA has not really defended the 2nd Amendment. They actually have a history of supporting things that infringe upon the right - the supported Governor Reagan's gun bans and have been generally supportive of licensing schemes. Every time I argue to really get behind don't infringe and suggest that felon-in-possession restrictions should be found unconstitutional, the NRA types argue back like a bunch of gun grabbers.

Even Scalia only gave the right to apply for permission to posses a handgun for self defense purposes in one's own home. That is a pretty narrow right.

Trump, like Obama, will do virtually nothing in regards to the 2nd Amendment.

Point proven.

I guess I'll take it as a compliment that you think a harmless recreation shooter such as myself is somehow a major threat to the Republic. In fact, back when I enlisted in the Marines I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. I still honor that oath today. I have to say, I find you mildly offensive.

My brother and cousins and grandfather have been very into shooting lately and I'm wondering if I should give it a try

Good.

If you are going to misrepresent yourself with "panic over the possibility Trump could lose" and then play "but I'm just a recreational shooter" repeatedly I will try repeatedly to offend you.

I swore the same oath, by the way, and don't feel the need for an AR-15.

Is that "if" really accurate?

If you insist.

I didn't vote for Trump. I wished he'd lost. I felt both major candidates were scoundrels. If you swore the same oath to the Constitution that I did, than fine. Reasonable people can disagree.

My mistake. The "panicking over a possible Clinton victory" and "I wished Trump had lost" seem contradictory to me, but I will take your word that I misunderstood you.

I respect that.

"It's infected. If it was a person, I'd shoot it."

I already have a gun but no ammo, because I'm not too concerned about general violence in the near future.

There's an internal logic to every activity. What if you said, "I already have a car but no gas, because..." Well, in an emergency, would you plan to just push your car to the gas station to fill it up? Emergencies are by their very nature unexpected. What if someone breaks into your home or apartment and threatens you or your loved-ones? Will you call a time-out while you go down to the gunshop and get ammo?

If you have a car, you must buy gas.
If you have a toilet, you must have TP.
If you have a lamp, you must have light bulbs.
If you have a PC, you must have a screen.
If you have a gun, you must have ammunition.
(...and a safety class, gunlock, training, etc.)

The point here is that there are many reasons that someone might want a gun. Some legitimate, some not. Obama or Clinton being elected, so I need to get a gun. is not within the category of legitimate. There is nothing about those events (or potential events) that a sane and rational person would consider as a cause to change their mind about whether they have a gun or not.

No, although interest among guns did spike in November among some liberals I know. Funny, since the same thing happened among some conservatives I knew at times when it looked like Clinton would win. As far as I know however, none on either side actually bought guns as a result.

One interesting thing will be to see if gun sales increase or decrease under 45. With Obama, some conservatives feared gun legislation would be strengthened and bought guns earlier than they may have otherwise. Now that no one is really fearing gun legislation tightening, will gun sales fall?

Personally I'd rather buy a bow and a few arrows, since archery is fun. Or maybe a sword that could do double duty as a pretty awesome wall decoration. But I'm more willing to try a shooting range with a friend that I know and trust than I was, say, 5-10 years ago.

If you have a lamp, you must have light bulbs.

I buy my lamps for decorative purposes only. Electric lighting is overrated; candles are where it's at.

My girlfriend has a lamp that our dogs chewed the cord off of about ten years ago. She noticed about five years ago. I have never seen any reason to replace the cord.

I tend to agree. Events tend to drive us further into our already entrenched positions. Every time there's a mass shooting, a liberal thinks, "We have to get rid of all these guns!" Whereas a conservative thinks, "I've gotta get more guns!"

On the other hand, with the widespread predictions of a Clinton victory last fall, it does appear that some people on the fence did finally make a purchase.
