How Far Will the Woke Mob Go?

And yes, you did not ask, but there is actually a Original Normal Butter and a Butter Rich (TM) version, too, to complete the holy trinity. Because of course what we really need in our lives is to choose between 3 different Butter Syrups, of which none contain any butter. Not even Butter Rich (TM). It's entirely butterless. Capitalism Ho!°

You see, being able to choose between these syrup alternatives is real freedom, unlike living in a country where you don't have to fear the police attacking you for, like, no reason and getting away with it, which is socialist/communist tyranny

Here’s a story of someone getting fired over a poorly thought Halloween costume, which was meant to be a satire about racism, and two young people who went to the party two years ago decide to dredge it up again. They probably meant to get the host fired too, they’re upset with him. And this woman who wore the costume is not famous. It’s strange the Washington Post even ran this story unless they just wanted to make a point about how ridiculous people are.

The story is so weird. There is a Hallooween party by the WaPo caricaturist. So already it's weird they have their internal debates made public. Some white woman comes in blackface because she wanted to make fun of Megyn Kelly defending black face. And then a black and a latinx woman, who according to the text don't even know the host of the party, haven't even met him (how is that possible?!) walk up to her to debate her costume. And then 2 years later they feels traumatized by the incident and call it harassment. (The white woman eventually yelled at, fled the party in tears. The only thing that makes sense to me is that the blackface itself was the harassment, in which case I disagree with that terminology).

I'm usually a friend of WaPo Journalism but this is some incredibly dumb **** ngl.

I remember a story similar to this, though it wasn't race that was the issue, and it wasn't being a satire that was the "gotcha," if you will. It was back in the early 2000's, and the article is hard to find. A picture was taken of a man at a Halloween party in a Superman costume in a wheelchair. Immediately, he was accused by photographer, who didn't know him at, and had accusations put on some very early, budding social media site (Myspace, or some such) that he was mocking the plight of actor Christopher Reeve, with the caption, "Always too soon, disgusting joke," in a collection of tasteless and mocking Halloween party costumes. Turns out the man was later was found, and was in fact parapalegic (though not qudrapalegic) himself.

Satire, without a clarity of purpose, risks becoming what it mocks - if even satire was really the goal, and not an excuse after the fact.

However, those taking these kinds of pictures and making these kinds of articles are also often mean-spirited and want to cause animosity for these articles' readers/viewers in people they don't know and maliciously make people look bad, whether or not they actually deserve it, because that what sells their shameless and sensationalist yellow journalism rags. These types of "journalists," would have been working for the likes of the National Enquirer in the '80's and '90's.. But I've said a few times, American news media as a whole lost it's high-brow, respectable sense of journalism about the time Walter Cronkite retired.

African-American women did at least dress in that manner in the old Deep South (and many still do in Liberia), and I've seen no evidence she was played by a woman in blackface in ads as long as television has existed. How many people today, White, Black, or otherwise, can name minstrel show characters, by name and performance role, off the top of their heads. I know I can't.

But I thought it was a Fascist/Nazi/Tyranny where you do get to make these choices, and get attacked by the police for no reason? You see why I always say that binary, black-and-white, Neo-Manichaean political extremism is so unhealthy and counter-productive? :p

I'd reserve questions like that for people who decide to write diatribes about syrup :)

taking the piss is a fun activity, it's a shame you associate it with frustration

I dunno, I think asking why Diet Syrup is being sold on the same planet as people starving is a question worth asking.

I agree, and I think there's lots of interesting questions here really. personally I'm really curious what the difference between the Classic and the Butter Rich is and if it's really the exact same product, just one has more artificial butter aroma than the other. I honestly wonder sometimes if you could simply sell the same product to people with different packaging and advertising make it seem like there's a viable choice. or ask widely varying prices for it... oh, wait :D

My money says more Diacetyl in the butter rich.

It's telling that the worst excesses of the left in America is the eventual changing of brands with racist history, compared to the right who's worst excesses pretty much lead to suffering or/and death.
You aren't allowed to discuss the worst excesses of the left. It would lead to a range of difficulties for a website. This is connected to the issue of why the left can't meme, and how when the right memes, it's tantalizingly barbaric. The social pendulum is currently on the left.

If you tell the truth, you're going to offend someone, but it does not follow that if you're offending someone then you must be telling the truth.
I had considered this, but I wasn't as able as you were to condense it into a sentence. I expect I have much less of a problem with the current state of censorship than you might think. That being said, you're not allowed to discuss the frog tribe.

It really isn't. If you tell the truth, you're going to offend someone, but it does not follow that if you're offending someone then you must be telling the truth. The frog tribe has not uncovered profound truths.

Truth is a dying commodity in the modern day, and both sides of the "culture war," participate in killing truth, real history, believable credibility, and any media or educational forum capable of delivering it in a "race to the bottom," to claim control of the masses and what they believe and how they view the world. It's almost like a battle of proselytizing religions, but devoid of any spirituality or moral lessons. A new Dark Age is almost certainly beckoning...

Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.
