How is your EU3 Game going?

I know I've only had this for a couple of days, but I don't think that I've ever played a game that seemed to so very deeply resent my attempts to play it. I must be doing something wrong. :crazyeye:

It takes practice, certainly. I know when I first played it a couple months ago, I was extremely intimidated. But now I seem to have the hang of things.

Speaking of which, here's an update on my Byzantium game. As I stated, Byzantium would rise again! I realized that I was a good 10-20 tech levels over most of Europe so I started wars with various places, slowly capturing territory with my new vast army paid for by the riches of the Americas. Oh and I wasn't the only one that moved my capital to the new world! Venice relocated theirs to somewhere in Uruguay. I'm hesitant to try and reclaim territory under Milan for cascading alliances but I think I just need to create alliances of my own. I've been trying hard to get allied with Burgandy to distract Milan on their hometurf. Castille was stubborn with their territory but I eventually reclaimed the Aegean coast!

I've also been heavily colonizing America but my attempt to wall off North America from the other European powers was almost a success as you can see Castille in the Pacific Northwest. I however managed to secure the heartland. I think at this point, I'll drop the colonialism national idea.

eu3-byzantium.jpg

I also captured and colonized parts of South Asia and New Zealand, securing the Centers of Trade for myself and colonizing Taiwan and the Philippines. I attempted to capture Kyoto's CoT but attrition got the best of me.

And here's a general overview

That's actually a pretty nice alternative route for Byzantium. Nice job! :goodjob:

Woh. Dat Trollhemia.

Not sure if this should have been in the screenshots thread but I doubt anyone else but you guys would find this a bit tragic/amusing:)

Haha yeah Bohemia is huge but they're really just kitties. :D I held them off pretty well when I annexed Bulgaria.

don't get it.

Look at their commanders! They're brothers!

I remember somenoe in Paradox Plaza posted one where the pretender was the same general that was commanding his army :D

Or just people with the same surname :p

I think i will post a screenshot here where the king of Portugal is somenoe from the same family as me :D
was quite interesting to see, i always knew my family had something to do with portugal, but being a possible dinasty to get the throne? heh :p

I've had plenty of advisors with my surname, but no monarchs. :/

My name is fairly unusual for European monarchies, I'm lucky if I even get a first name match (rarely, if ever).

I have been known to edit my save-game just to change monarch names to suit my tastes. :)

EDIT: Fun fact, I'm playing Burgundy, got the HRE crown, doing fairly well on the colonization scene. I've just realized most of my monarchs have been named Charles, Jean, and recently Joseph. Only one Marie (she came after I got the HRE crown for the first time, promptly lost it!) and one Philippe (after the starting monarch), and every heir named Louis or Louis-Henri (there have been 5 or 6 total) has met an early grave. Random names can be weird sometime.

I usually mess with the names file's probability and add names that I think are ballin while subtracting names I, um, don't. The modded version of the Byzantine names file, for instance, is kind of outrageous:

Lotta female names on your Byzantine list, guess you like recruiting extra generals. I did something similar for a few nations that I had some heavy RP-ing with (the Normandy game was huge fun, might do it again in DW). Here are two that I could dig up on short notice (only relevant parts copied):

Byzantines:
Spoiler :

"Konstantinos #10" = 60
"Andronikos #4" = 40
"Ioannes #6" = 35
"Manuel #1" = 30
"Theodoros #2" = 25
"Demetrios #0" = 20
"Michael #9" = 20
"Zoe #1" = -15
"Helene #0" = -15
"Andreas #0" = 10
"Thomas #0" = 10
"Alexios #5" = 10
"Isaakios #2" = 10
"Theodora #2" = -10
"Basileios #2" = 5
"Romanos #4" = 5
"Nikephoros #3" = 5
"Leon #6" = 3
"Iason #0" = 2

Normandy:
Spoiler :

"Henri #4" = 40
"Richard #4" = 25
"Charles #0" = 20
"Guillaume #3" = 20
"Edouard #1" = 10
"Isabelle #0" = -10
"Marie #0" = -10
"Godefroid #1" = 5
"Adelaide #0" = -5
"Jean #1" = 3
"Sophie #0" = -3
"Éttiene #1" = 2
"Robert #3" = 1
"André #0" = 1

I wish you could set some bounds for names, so that Henry and Edward are preferred for England until royal marriages with Scotland, for example, to start introducing James and Charles as monarch names. Sadly, I just have to do it all manually.

Doesn't change the number of generals you get, just the variety of names. The vanilla names for Byzantine monarchs and generals - aside from being horribly transliterated - are about as representative of the Greek nobility of the time as the name list of, say, Hedjaz [sic]. So I fixed the transliterations and added in a lot of period names that I've come across in histories, pronoiar records, Church documents, land deeds, things like that.

I meant you will get more female monarchs, so you won't be able to convert them to generals for free. :)

I noticed the problems with the list first when I saw Isaakios I sieze the throne of an AI Roman Empire, and I remember from my readings that there were some emperors named Isaakios before that. Cue an afternoon of me on Wiki updating the list mostly with regnal numbers, etc. as best I could.

Yours is more complete, I'll probably be copying a lot of it.

My Byzantine game... annexed territory in Africa and the Caribbean (two islands St. Lucien) from Naples and simply built improvements in territories that were cored.

Jumped on England when it fell apart and stole their territory in north Africa, England is now Great Britain and continues to fall apart being overrun by Cornwall, Munster, Gaelic Highlanders and rebels. England used to have the largest overseas empire in the world, rebels saw to the end of that. Iberia now takes the top spot barely, as Aragon is right behind them followed by my ally Burgundy and myself taking 4th. The colonial race is close between the 4 of us since England fell.

Austria still expands, but north instead of east into my ally Lithuania. They now fear my huge armies stationed on my northern border in Greece, both armies outnumber their local forces and I am 3 land tech levels ahead of them. A war with them has been planned for the future. Right now my most pressing concern is the final conquest of Naples and then Rome. Once I get northern Italy secured and open up a larger second Italian front against Austria I may start my war against them. Burgundy may join if they do not I will have several large armies ready in case they backstab me. Sea invasions against me are rare and when they happen are lucky strikes... my large navy, the largest in the world (according to the ledger) keeps my supply lines open and trade flowing smoothly.

Currently my goal is to reduce Lithuania's presence in Asia minor... by either forcing them to release Georgia or annexing them myself. I plan to destroy Algiers (I don't know their name but it used to be called Algiers) and Morocco to unite my colonies with the mainland, and take the Mamluks to the woodshed for their complete lack of respect and for refusing to show the proper amount of fear for my large and invincible armies. The continuously declare war whenever I get involved in a large war especially if I go overseas. But they are always stopped by a small 17,000 strong army in Alexandria.

Spoiler :

EDIT: My legitimacy has been bad ever since I Westernized. I have tried recovering it as heir's become leaders but events always seemed to bring it back down. But I am still working on bringing it back up.
