I picked Byzantium because
a) it's a challenge
b) you have a lot of things to re-conquer, so there is a sort of "purpose" in the game
c) it's not a Western nation, but it's relatively easy to Westernize
d) many opportunities for conquest - Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia...
e) I am familiar with playing Byzantium from the previous versions of the game, so I wanted to compare the experience (so far it's been great)
Not sure if it's the mod that's causing this, but there isn't much colonization going on. Also, Russia never formed, but Lithuania pretty much took its place. I really don't want to get into war with them, and since they're the Defender of Catholic Faith, it means attacking Catholic countries is pretty much impossible. Which sucks, because I'd really like to kick the Pope out of Rome and install an Orthodox patriarch in his place
