How is your EU3 Game going?

:agree: And take over Oman, they're out of place in YOUR Arabian Ottoman Peninsula.

Get rid of that annoying bit of Iran.

The hardest wars so far were those with Venice and then, strangely, Cyprus. I was totally unprepared for the revamped DW system of alliances that allows countries to drag literally the whole world into war with you. And so, by invading Cyprus, I ended up fighting half of Europe. Venice was a pain in the butt for the first 2/3 of the game, and when I finally conquered it... oh, the (imagined) satisfaction of sacking it and returning the stolen treasures of Constantinople to their rightful owners :D

Now it is nearly 1750 and I am bored. I am by far the richest country on Earth, my armies are basically undefeatable, the navy is strong enough to deal with most opponents (except the likes of England), so I am wondering what to do next. I want to finish the game, so, any suggestions?

I picked Byzantium because

a) it's a challenge
b) you have a lot of things to re-conquer, so there is a sort of "purpose" in the game
c) it's not a Western nation, but it's relatively easy to Westernize
d) many opportunities for conquest - Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia...
e) I am familiar with playing Byzantium from the previous versions of the game, so I wanted to compare the experience (so far it's been great)

Not sure if it's the mod that's causing this, but there isn't much colonization going on. Also, Russia never formed, but Lithuania pretty much took its place. I really don't want to get into war with them, and since they're the Defender of Catholic Faith, it means attacking Catholic countries is pretty much impossible. Which sucks, because I'd really like to kick the Pope out of Rome and install an Orthodox patriarch in his place :p

I think I am going to conquer India

wow seing Iberia and Germany(and France to an extent) is like the world never moved since you started

Scratch that, seeing Europe and north Africa is like the world never moved since mid 1400s

Nice work Winner :)

You could release Italy and go for Alexander's empire ;)

Nah - I allied with the Shia Jalayirids against Sunni Baluchistan, and I am quite happy leaving them to fight each other while I take the richest part of Muslim Eastern Med ;)

I guess you would enjoy playing in D&T if you like to play as Byz ;)

What's D&T?

Actually I am quite happy about how the map looks. I hate unrealistic blobs. I don't know if DW is better at dealing with it, or if it is the SRI mod. Either way, it's nice. It's strange though that Aragon still exists.

D&T = Death & Taxes. It's another popular mod for EU III DW.

:(

Well i think i will pass, since the first years in regular DW are a pain. And if it is similar i could find better uses for the hour i would spend to compute the best realistic strategy for those crucial first moves.

Just gave the D&T mod a try (as Byzantium). It's too easy. Waaaay too easy, if you start in 1407 or so when Byzantium is in control of most of Macedonia. I allied with Serbia, Wallachia, Montenegro, and Athens and declared war on the Ottomans, who are in the middle of civil war. First I notice I got some totally overpowered modifier ("resisting the Turks") which gave me 50% more tax revenue, crapload of extra manpower, and bigger land force limits. The Ottomans kicked my butt in a few battles (my starting army got wiped out), but I could easily afford building more troops and hiring more mercs. Eventually, the Ottomans got soundly beaten, I took the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, and from there on it was mostly a walk in the park. About 60 years later most of Anatolia is in my hands and the process of religious and cultural conversion proceeds splendidly.

Meh. I'll return to my SRI game. The new map is nice, but other than that, D&T doesn't seem to offer the kind of challenge I desire.
