IDEA- Civfanatics Leaderhead making competition?

What the...

I guess first off thanks to capo and mechaerick mechaerik for claiming that I'm the grandmaster. If you guys don't recall for the longest time I was a B level LH maker but with C.Roland and the other pioneers not being so active I guess I'm the last one standing.

Nope, I don't remember. I've only been on just under a year. :p

But on another note we have some great LH makers out there nw, but a competition may not be the way the go.. A better idea would be to find another LH that could inspire a collaboration. I know that when I worked on collaboration LHs I learned a lot more about the art of LH making. So another Collaboration LH bringing in all or most of the LH makers here would do better for the community IMO. So maybe a poll on a LH thats really needed or something would do it.

That would probably be best.

How does a Collaboration start?

I mean, Can it be made? Or does it just happen?

What type of leader is needed for one? A very difficult one to make for example?

Capo started the last two. He started the Hitler one to make a definitive hitler leaderhead, and the Alexander one because he didn't like the firaxis one.

How about as Vrenir said we make a Nasser one together. Is this a good idea or just a waste of a post?

That wouldn't require as much work, its really sculpting a face, adding a suit, and then skinning it. Unless we wanted to make a Nasser in military garb, that might look cool actually.

I was planning on making a Nasser myself, but if you think that LH is worthy of a huge collaboration then perhaps we should, I'd be down. It would certainly save me a little time.

Well with Bernie gone and pencilgod's return perhaps pencilgod should be the official skinner.

I'll check the request thread and Civ Gold for a small list of leaders that we can tackle. :) (IE, are hard to do)

The difficulty of making the leader isn't what is important, it is the leader's importance that should be considered if anyone is going to work on a collaboration project. So far it has been Hitler and Alexander - two pretty prominent historical figures - so whomever is "chosen" for this has to be at least sort of in their league.

What about the Tamerlane I already started? The Capo had some plans for him.

I'm keeping that in mind, that's why I could'nt find any yet, as any of the prominant leaders are already done...

I'm thinking of Canute, but that one would not be that difficult, and iirc i heard some talk about making it already somewhere.

Or maybe Kennedy. Capo has already suggested Jed Bartlett as a base, and his brother did die recently.

We accepted using cfkane's Beowulf as Canute.

You did? Canute was more Scandinavian than Viking. He should look more modern than cfkane's Beowolf.

But IIRC nobody knew how he looked like, but I bet he looked something similar like the reskinned peter that's being used.

Do we have any pictures -fake or real- of how Canute looked like? It could be a childrens story book for all I care.

I'm just going to stop you right here; we already found some images of Canute and compared them to the Beowulf LH and believe it or not they are STRIKINGLY similar. And besides that I doubt there will be a collaboration on Canute. The only leaders I can think of that would probably be good as a collaboration effort are (and this includes LHs that are already done by others but could probably use an upgrade);

1) Nebuchadnezzar
2) Nasser
3) Maggie Thatcher
4) Chiang Kai Shek
5) Sun Yat Sen
6) Julius Caesar (I hate the vanilla version, although VeBear made a really good alternative version, but my point here is that he would probably be "worthy" of a collaboration LH)

Honestly that list isn't even that good. I just don't really think there is anything out there that worthy of a collaborative effort. At least not that I can think of now, maybe Tamerlane but there's already a pretty good one being made right now and I'm going to work on it soon as well, so technically that is already a collaboration. Maybe Tecumseh or something like that. The idea, I think, would be to top the last one. And its difficult to come up with anyone better than Alexander the Great.

EDIT: I think I should also add that both the Alexander and Hitler LH had reasons for the collaboration. Hitler was never "good enough" before the collaboration LH for a lot of people, there were always gripes about all of the other ones, and I think it was pretty much done to shut everyone up about it more than anything else. As for Alexander I think its pretty obvious, there is nothing wrong with the Firaxis LH, it just sucked as Alexander.

EDIT 2: Maybe Che Guevara would be cool, but I think its better to make a collaboration LH for regular civs.

Interesting. Do you have Images(the link to the images) of Canute? (Or can I get them off a google search?) I'd like to see it myself.

Hmm. So it will be difficult to figure this out. Julius IMO is fine as it is.

Another leader that could be done is Montezuma. Fireaxis version does not look like him at all.

How about Jayavaram? I was never keen on the Shaka Version.

i like the idea of a Chiang LH. i've searched for one, but there is really only a Wang kong resking with Chuggi's Hirohito hat.

Che would be awesome though, as well as *other* revolutionary leaders? Perhaps one from the country south of the U.S.? Bandoliers and all? What was his name? :mischief:

If we're looking at historical significance, what about Joan of Arc?

That could be a good one, I think it is better since she was one a leader in Civ III and Civ II. However I'm not sure if I'd agree on HISTORICAL significance, although I'm sure others would disagree.

BTW, the Montezuma that appears in civ, as far as I know, is NOT the one the Spaniards encountered. Thus, even if that picture is supposed to be of him, it would be incorrect because that is clearly a European etching and not an actual Aztec depiction.

Someone already made a pretty good joan of arc anyways. It's in civ gold.
