I'll bump this in a years time. What do you want to have achieved by then?

Eh, I'd shoot for a job you don't hate because unless you're one of those weird people who lives to work (most of us work to live) I don't see how anyone can like working more than sitting on the couch drinking beer and playing video games. Or hiking outdoors/cooking/throwing a social gathering/reading/surfing/insert hobby activity you enjoy here. While it's important to not loathe the idea of going to work I think the whole idea that it must be one's calling in life is a bit overblown. I like my job, a lot actually, but I can still think of a dozen other things I'd rather do. Find something that you like a little, has agreeable hours and pays well. I don't believe in fulfillment through work, I believe in leveraging the rewards of working into a fulfilling lifestyle.

If you had 10 million $$ in your bank account and you continued going into work fulltime, then you love your work. If not, then I remain skeptical!

Yes you summed it up for me. While you'll find tons of people in life who say "I love my job!" I'll be the vast majority of them wouldn't keep working given that amount of money.

I'll let one of you gents make it, but yeah, I'd be interested in seeing how people vote there.

Goals for 2014
Be more focused on my lifting and hit 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat, and 4 plate deadlift.
Not be in grad school anymore and have some type of job that isn't completely beneath me to replace it.
Still be with girl I love.
Be generally more aggressive and adventurous than I was last year.

Did not post in this thread last year. huh.

Well by this time next year I want to:

Be finished with Game of Thrones in German
Be out of the house
Have applied to graduate school
Start reading literature in French
Maybe get started on a new language
Start practicing reading Fraktur and Latin Shorthand/Manuscript orthography

... figure out designated spot for dog to sit
...
- Start planning trip to Nepal, figure out the when and the who the hell would want to go with me
So where did you decide the dog would sit (and does the dog agree with your decision)? :p

I see Norway wasn't part of your plans a year ago.

I intend that this will be the year I learn to crochet. This is a holdover goal from last year. Last year all I accomplished was getting an instruction book and hooks and yarn. So that's the supplies taken care of. This year will be the hard part. If I don't come back some day, you'll know that I accidentally crocheted myself into a cocoon and can't reach the computer. :crazyeye:
I still haven't learned. My goal for the year got sidetracked due to a series of infuriating events.

So instead of crocheting, my current goal is to finish organizing my books, and get a couple of activities going here that I've been planning for awhile.

Have somthing to look forward to. Feel competent at something--something where it wouldn't matter if I spoke to one, or one hundred,or one million or billion people about that something because I know what I was talking about.

nnnnaaaaahhhhhhhh

I'm going to say 17:40 5k on july 4 or a 36:40 10k sometime this year

#1 i want to tell the girl i love that i love her.
[...]

- #2 find a GF (preferably related to the above)
- #3 paint my appartment and put new floor in
- #4 at least 1 scientific publication
- #5 start with new sports (Aikido, Karate and fencing are on the list)...and continue with them
- #6 continue with stable social life
- #7 get my screwed up mind fixed
- #8 EDIT: Explore the Netherlands a bit

#1: Check
#2: Fail
#3: 50%. Haven't put in floor yet.
#4: Sort of, and that I can't say "check" is not my fault :mischief: (only one minor publication, and the bigger one is still again waiting for comments)
#5: Check, if you count Salsa dancing. I tried fencing, but didn't continue.
#6: Check
#7: Check
#8: Check

mmhh...not too bad, I have to say.

-Get a boyfriend or something.
-Pass my courses.
-Save enough money to go abroad for some time (I expect to achieve that before or upon reaching June/July 2015).
-Write something worth reading.

-Utter failure. You could say I didnt even try.
-Still working on it and on the right track.
-I may have, but other people will have to decide whether they think it is worth reading or not.

I hope to have finished at least Phase 4 in my 347-Phase plan to Take Over The World.

Oh, that thing? I gave up on that a while ago, and replaced it with a 153-phase plan. Which I'll probably also give up on.

* Driver's licence (though it arguably can wait, but not that long)

I'm working on it currently. Should be done in a couple of months.

* Get my gaming development business running

A lot of progress is made on the title I am working on, though it's hardly in releasable state yet. Will take at least another year.

* Become fully fluent in French and German

I am improving, though I hardly invested the time and effort necessary to get even close to fluent. So that completely failed.

* Stop screwing around and get a serious relationship

Nope.

I didn't post in the earlier part of this thread, which means I've achieved everything I said I would and more.

:king:
