I'm going to Chavez-Land!

If Poland is second world, then all of the first world is Second world...

Imo 1st world is Canada, USA, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and all of Europe that i don't cover in 2nd world.

2nd world is Latin America aside a few, South Africa, China, Some Gulf countries, South Korea, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Some parts of former Yugoslavia

3rd world would be the rest

and imo a new definition 4th world should be added for Zimbabwe, Haiti and Afghanistan and whoever else. Pretty much 'failed' nations.

Yeah, I would move S.Korea up to first world (I know people who have been to Korea, they say the only problem there is that its insanely crowded), and maybe Turkey. Turkey is very borderline in that I heard the conditions are really good there (1st world conditions in their cities), its just that the world kinda views Turkey as a more 2nd world, idk why, but it does.

Actually there is already a 4th world term, and that's for places like Ethiopia and the one's you listed.

To be honest, your opinion doesn't matter on this subject. The "worlds" are clearly defined:

1st World: the Capitalist West
2nd World: the Socialist East
3rd World: everyone else

That "3rd world" has taken on the connotation of backwardness is a function of this. That is why, after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact, the terms "developing nations" and "newly industrialized countries" came into wide use, to describe the new situation.

My grandfather is from Haiti, so watch what you saying there!

My Grandfather is from Haiti as well.. Except he owned a plantation there so not really 'haitian'

South Korea is just as developed as Japan and Australia...

I've heard that some of the more rural areas aren't nowhere near the level of their cities, which is why i put it there, but i guess i was wrong. They can go to 1st world i guess.

As for Turkey, yah they can be 1st world. Only European countries that aren't at that level imo are Albania, Bosnia, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

@Cheezy, if you aren't going to contribute, do not post.

Well that can go for any 1st world nation. I've heard areas of Appalachia (very rural areas around the Appalachian mountains), still look like 3rd world nations. What I guess can be a considering factor is where most of the population lives, which of course, in S. Korea, is in the urban areas. And those urban areas are pretty much 1st world, so they seem more suited for 1st world than second.

My contribution right now is as relevant as yours. And do not act as if you have control over this thread, there is established precedent that OPs have no special rights.

Obviously I don't have the power to mod the thread, and everyone should be treated equally, but last time i recalled, this thread is about ME moving to Venezuela, of course this thread belongs to me. It's ridiculous to say otherwise.

Now please, leave the thread if you aren't going to contribute.

You find personal anecdotes more credible than mainstream news?

Yeah. Mainstream news sources almost always try to push an agenda.

A lot of places in Australia outside the capitals and larger towns is Third World - drought, poor infrastructure, lack of services, lack of medical care, violence, social breakdown, poor government, the works. It's a bloody disgrace.

I espiecially hate this, i still vividly remember school in Canada where they basically was like "Ok, so the developing world is Latin America, Africa and Asia, now let's see how they live their everday lives by watching this documantary about Kenya... *after the documantary* Now please fill out this worksheet. Question 1: By watching the documantary, what conclusion can you make about the living conditions in the developing world?"

It pissed me off, people in Latin America don't live in mud huts, do have access to fresh water, the average pay cheque for the day involves alooooot more then 1$ per day, and the health and education system is not that much worse then in America and Canada for gods sakes...

Indeed. I'm forced to make this kind of overgeneralisation when doing geography last year. But really there are a lot of differences between so-called "developing countries" and there are differences within those countries as well.

Anyway, have fun in Venezuela LastOne :D

Actually, i wonder, if you cut out the poorest 5% of latin American demographics, how would the demographics look like? I'm sure it would skyrocket if you deleted the barrios.

Get a hot Venezuelan girlfriend and be a winner!!

Wait, a small question, what are the "barrios"?

I believe those are the small, poorer residential neighborhoods that are on the outskirts of Caracas and other Venezuelan cities.

Oh, so they are like slums. That makes more sense, for a second, the way he phrased it made it sound like he was talking about a certain people.

So yeah, if you were to take those away from the demographics I'm sure they would skyrocket, the same would happen if you took away the South from the U.S. :joke:

not just Venezuelan cities, all latin cities have barrios (and i think use the term barriors).

They are a big problem in Latin Countries.

My step mother actually lived there for awhile back in the early 90's (yeah, great times)
Hope you tell us about all the crap we will be begging you to tell, otherwise, have a great time, and remember that you'll be coming back poorer! (commies )

poorer? I have much more chances at success in Venezuela then i do in America or Canada or Europe.
