Poland is leading the world in that it wants to release the mugshots and photo's of anyone convicted of sexual offense to the Polish public.
This is very useful if we want to know what sexual offenders look like and if it lives in your Polish neighborhood.
Very safe or is it basically a life sentence to humiliation for sex offenders?

Spoiler :
Law and Justice MPs want images of sexual offenders and their personal data to go public.

According to the amendment to the penal code proposed by the conservative Law and Justice party, courts will be obliged to reveal personal data and images of people who committed brutal rapes or sexual crimes against minors and were validly sentenced.

“So far courts could decided whether they wanted to make sexual offenders’ names public. We want the practice to become a rule,” says Andrzej Dera, author of the draft.

An Internet register of sexual offenders would contain photos of those who committed sexual offences and notes about the crimes.

The idea has already stirred a lot of controversy. Former Justice Minister Zbigniew Cwiakalski criticised the draft, saying that minor sexual offenders should not be treated in the same way as serious, notorious offenders.

Opponents also argue that courts should take the decision as to the publication of offenders’ data because they will not be influenced by public opinion.

On the other hand supporters praise the idea, saying that similar registers exist, or will exist in other countries, such as the US, Peru and South Korea. Great Britain also has a database of sexual offenders but it is available only for police and the secret services.

Jakub Spiewak from Kidproject.pl, a foundation which fights against child pornography and paedophilia, claims that Poland needs a sexual offenders register but a classified one, as the average citizen does not need such information.

Problem:

20 year old meets 17 year old at college drinking-binge party and gets laid (barely concious on his part and totally consentual).

Does this person really deserve the kind of hate and ostracization reserved for child abusers?

There needs to be more refined catagories.

So it's like a Megan's Law?
I didn't realize Poland didn't have something like this already.
I say go for it.

EDIT: Ecofarm raises a good point.

I remember a CSI episode had a 20 something as a registered sex offender because he got drunk and walked around his neighborhood without his clothes on.

Probably not based on a real story, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Thats not really innovative - many (if not all) US states already do this. If you're convicted you must register as a sex offender - anyone can search the States Sex Offender list and it will give you a photo AND the address (last known address - they're supposed to report to the state everytime they move) of the offender.

And as Ecofarm said - it can be misleading. A girl I knew ran her old city - small town - and she knew a bunch of the offenders. They're crimes? Sex with an underage girl - IE an 18 yr old with a 16 year old. Not exactly the "animal" people think of when they hear "sex offender".

I've personally always manage to at least keep some boxer-shorts on during such events. Sure... a guy in his boxers, crapfaced drunk, tramping across a (dry) private religious school campus while tipping port-a-potties in construction areas is not a pretty sight... but it's not a sexual offense.

Fortunately, I didn't get caught by the popo (did I mention it was a private school), but if I did and it counted as a sexual offense I'd be pissed. Trust me, the last thing on my randomly-vandalizing very-drunken mind was sex. I just wanted to run around mostly nekked and break stuff.

No problem. In Poland, the age of consent is +15, if I recall correctly. I do not know, however, if it's 15, or more than 15, so 16...

But what about the typical "within 2 years rule", where we can accept that probably noone was unduly manipulating the other?

That's why I used 20 and 17 as an example. The 17 is under legal age (18 here in FL) and not within 2 years of the 20. What about a 15 or 16 and a 19? It's pathetic and sad, of course, (and illegal in most of the US) but not quite as awful as "sexual offender" implies.

That is why Amauter porn from these countries is so messed up, OMG I SEE MYSELF!
But because of its more liberal sexuality it needs stricter punishments for those that break it's codes of honor. Sex between high school kids is OK!
bUT sex offenders are so terrible we need maximum punishments. Monsters.

We need several catagories:

Running around nekked. Statutory rape commited under the age of 21. Statutory rape commited over the age of 21. Rape. Child molestation. Child rape.

Each of these things are different and lumping them all together (for the purpose of labelling people) is not right.

While I don't personally have much problem with lumping statutory rapists in with child molesters, the people who get caught drunk and nekked wandering around the neighborhood are an entirely different thing.

This sounds like a lot of loopholes, and now the only faces shown to the public will one crazy man from Germany.
We need less categories to ensure that justice is given to those who deserve it.
It will be the judge to decide if you are sex offender or not. if the judge has common sense he will say that the naked drunk man is not a sex offender. But maybe a naked man is a sex maniac.
We need to be safe and seperate sex offenders and non.

What do you mean by that?

Labelling a guy who got nekked and ran through campus drunk one night with his frat buddies as a "sexual offender" is justice??

Yes because he is a sex maniac.
Unless he is with his friends then he is public sex!

How can someone be a "public sex"?

Tekee's equating of nudity with sex surpasses even the most backwards of USians.

When I go to the nude beach and keep to myself (I like the feel of the wind, sun and water), I am not having sex with everyone on the beach.

Asians are just afraid of being clobbered by big westerners....

Ah good analogy, but when naked frat boys run into each other on campus it is simply an orgy.

Wow. That's even more backwards.

Everytime the US censors a nekked butt or boob on TV, while allowing murders and rapes... a little bit of my patriotism dies. Then along comes Tekee and my society is once again advanced; compared to those views, socially conservative Usians are freaking geniuses.

anyway, I am against publishing photos in general. These men are to pay for their crimes in prison, not after leaving it. Photos should be available to police and other services, though.
