Hello all. Welcome to today's newsreel. I'm Lighthearter with the LMCP, here to deliver the latest from around the globe.

The Americas:

In South America, The Allied Nations spread to gain the Falkland Islands with a minimum of conflict from the scattered locals in January of 1942. An Allied destroyer squadron sailed directly into Stanley Harbor and offloaded several companies of irregular forces, who were well received as a beacon of stability and order. Meanwhile, The Kingdom of Cuba held a plebiscite in Columbia to determine the population's desired nationality. It was a close vote, but by a very narrow margin Cuba managed to take the lead, and there was no exchange of territories. Allied response remains to be seen, but their utilization of ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY to produce buildings and weapons of war is hardly promising.

--The Great North American War:

The year's action in the CSA began with a bang as METH forces mobilized for another major offensive along the Texan border, Confederate elements took up arms to stop them - and Northern forces began moving southward to reinforce the Confederate positions. However, as the armies began to move, Northern elements waited on the results of two key naval engagements.

See, the Imperial Navy pushed south from anchorages in Seattle and Boston to attempt establishing naval chains along the North American coast to facilitate an invasion of southern Mexico, turning the METH efforts defensive. Two destroyer squadrons sailed along the West Coast and two more along the East, joined by a defensive squadron. A sixth Imperial desron arrived off the Mexican coast from Hawai'i, attempting to assist in the formation of the western chain. However, the METH navy had moved north as well on missions to encircle the CSA, and two desrons on each ocean opposed the Northern Fleet.

The Battle of Puget Sound occurred on the West, when the two METH squadrons slammed the Northern Fleet barely out of anchorage. The battle was short and furious - both Imperial Desrons were sunk, but at the cost of half the METH force. The Hawai'ian desron remained on station near Baja California, awaiting reinforcements that would now never arrive. Simultaneously, the Battle of Cape Hatteras saw two METH squadrons against three Northern ones - leading to similar disastrous results for the North, losing two squadrons to the cost of one METH unit.

The naval action done, the Imperials changed tacks. The forces they had assigned for their amphibious operation were quickly retasked and launched drives into occupied Dixie and California. In Dixie, they arrived in force to face no opposition - the province was handed back over without a fight, but its population had been drafted en masse by the METH forces to form replacement units. The push into California met vastly different results. A METH division of elite heavy armor, supported by Sonora partisans, ran headlong into the two Northern militia companies. The battle was as short as it was pointless - the Mexicans took light causalties, but at the cost of annihilating the entire Northern force and a substantial part of the local population. The METH force formally occupied Seattle on June 6, 1942, and then spread out to claim the rest of the Pacific Northwest, handing over the territory to Canadastan, which also launched a surprise attack across Lake Michigan against Chicago and later the entire Midwest.

Finally, the METH forces across the Texas border - a division of regular army troops supported by two companies of militia - advanced on The Alamo. The Confederates stood their ground with two militia companies, backed up by one Imperial Regular division and one militia unit - but something was wrong. The Northern militia fought with chaotic zeal and suicidal head on charges, coupled with bizzare suicide bomb attacks by vehicle and personal vest. They inflicted damage far out of proportion to their mere numbers, but the unit was destroyed along with the entire METH force.

With that, the strategic balance of power in the Americas had been vastly changed - METH and Canadastan continue to hold a significant edge over the CSA and the Empire, but nothing is certain, and the Alliance may yet overpower this new socialist International if it continues to press the assault against the Confederate and Northern homelands.

Europe & Africa:

In Europe, the Norse Union spread to annex the Azores, Svalbard and both divisions of Ireland. Despite a naval buildup in the North Sea, the Norse have made no overtly hostile gestures. Simultaneously, Black Russia has remained isolationist, watching and waiting, though rumors persist of a secret project deep in the heart of the Ukraine. The Rhineland Kommune remains withdrawn and makes no real global moves. There is a real risk of a popular uprising in the Kommune if its leadership does not act soon.

The Austrian Empire has occupied the Netherlands and incorporated them into their territory. This move comes as no surprise, however, this could irritate other Western European powers. Néo Vyzántio gobbles up Romania, Jordan, the Suez and Cyprus in one fell swoop, gaining them dominance over the entire Middle Eastern region. South Africa sweeps up Nigeria, Cameroon, Somalia and Central Africa through a whole slew of peacekeeping operations and humanitarian missions. But, on the the big stories: they all revolve around a certain North African state.

Carthage claimed Mali, Liberia, Chad, Sudan and Niger, splitting the continent of Africa with South Africa, but their attempt to claim Sicily was met by a matching Spanish State effort. The Spanish failed to win the hearts and minds of the Sicilian populace, but there is risk of hard feelings between Spain and Carthage over this. Added to the confusion, France secured Wales, then launched a naval assault around Spain toward Carthage itself. Despite destroying the first Carthaginian Navy unit to attempt an intercept, the French fleet was stopped dead by a desron off the coast of Tunisia. Almost in response to the attack, the Carthaginians utilized ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY plus a massive draft to create five divisions of Regulars and two Superiority Wings, all awaiting deployment.

Asia & Oceania:

In Asia, The Japanese Federation seizes the Phillipines and Borneo after activating ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY. Japanese expansionism in the region is growing - this might be of concern to the Allied Powers and Kingdom of Cuba. However, the one power the Japanese cannot truly challenge is the Han Dominion, which now lords over eastern Siberia, South Korea and South Vietnam. The Han are a powerhouse of a faction, the single greatest force in Asia except perhaps their southern neighbor, the Indian States, who like most democracies partook in the immense power offered by ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY.

Meanwhile, Mongolia remains isolated and courts the world's greatest airborne thinkers, but is rapidly being eclipsed in territory and wealth by its neighbors. The Allied Powers have claimed Tasmania and New Zealand, and stand poised to drive into Indonesia - that is, if The Kingdom of Cuba doesn't use its new possessions in Micronesia and the Pacific Islands to beat them to it.

The Nation of the Year Award:

Every year, the Lighthearter Magazine of Country Prowess awards to one nation the Nation of the Year Award(NOTY), in recognition of one single nation's fantastic achievements and unlikely successes. This award is given to nations that stand firm and fight effectively in the face of overwhelming odds, or to nations that overrun the opposition in a flurry of violence, or even to simply the world's largest economy - the nation with the single greatest achievement receives the NOTY, which comes with 1IP and a 5% bonus to either Army, Navy, Air Force or Income. The NOTY cannot be given to the same nation two years running, but it can be awarded to a nation multiple nonconsecutive times.

For the Year 1942, the NOTY is awarded to an extraordinary nation, as always. The nation in question managed to claim vast swathes of territory and defend its own borders from unprovoked attack while expanding its power base both with and without military force. Ladies and Gentlemen, truly a wonderfully inspiring and powerful nation, receipt of several awards already. Thusly, it is my honor to present the Nation of the Year award to The Carthaginian Union!!​

Canada dares to support this aggressive action by the METH. We offered a peaceful solution to the business in Newfoundland! But no, you must have war. Fine, you warmongers wanted war, so you shall get it.

We warn the METH and Canada to leave us and the CSA in peace with pre war borders or the gloves come off. Unconditional surrender shall be demanded in the future. You have this one chance to avoid a fate worse than defeat.
