I think we've established to everybody's satisfaction that the opinions of MPs trumps those of mere members, and if 100% of MPs for Wallasey think that Ms. Eagle is doing a sterling job, who cares what those kids and bums in the constituency party have to say?

I do care about her continuing to stand behind Tony Blair and his illegal invasion of Iraq even after the release of the Chilcot report (after voting in favour of it and in favour of quashing investigations!). She did say, in Parliament, that the housing bubble was fiction. Eurgh!

Didn't Theresa May say she wanted the UK to leave the European convention on human Rights? God knows what else she has in mind. Perhaps she wants to turn Britain into some kind of Singapore in order to make it more attractive for businesses. Low business tax, no worker rights and so on.

Not a household name, to put it gently. She's had a few brief spells as a junior minister, so not a non-entity, but hardly a major figure in the party.

To be honest, I'm still trying to figure if she's going to the leadership because her relatively low profile means there's less baggage, or if she's the stalking horse for a more serious challenge. Increasingly I'm leaning towards the latter, given all the details coming out about her voting history and the shady circumstances around her original selection as a parliamentary candidate, which are exactly the sort of baggage a challenger to Corbyn needs to avoid.

Although the USA has elected a black President and London a Muslim Mayor,
I am unsure that the people of the UK are ready for a childless? lesbian as PM.

Nevertheless I am fairly convinced Angela Eagle thinks she is a serious candidate.

I suspect many of her supporters see her as a stalking horse.

However it is not clear to me that she will draw out a winning contender.

If the challenge fails, it may reinforce Jeremy Corbyn's perilous position.

If she is elected LoLP, there may be a truncation of Labour to the larger inner cities;
because a lot of men will probably take the view that if it is a choice between
two women, Theresa May and Angela Eagle, they will choose the straight one.

Judges interpretations of the ECHR made her job as Home Office Minister difficult.

For instance the UK may not deport murderers to countries where there is the death
penalty or where they may not get affair trial, and that the right to a family life means
that if the UK admits an individual it is harder to decline to admit close relatives.

But now that she is PM, that is no longer her own problem, and she probably takes the
view that Brexiting from the EU is quite enough without trying to leave the ECHR too now.
