How do you figure? I am not an official representative of the United States government so how my own government acts has no relevance to my personal opinion on the matter.

Then how do you have a personal opinion on the EU.

Because people have opinions about things. It's kinda what we humans do.

You are human so should have an opinion.
But you are not an official representative a European government so how do their acts have relevance to your personal opinion.:):):)

Sigh
Just getting ready for the insanity to start on the US foreign policy. Iam sure something will happen soon enough to make Brexit look like a small self inflicted wound

IDK Commodore, it hasn't been handled perfectly but Donald Tusk's speech upon receiving the article 50's letter was rather graceful

Yeah, the EU's position, and their public statements of that position, are a model of professionalism and civility. The EU's chief negotiator, for example, has said literally nothing about their position. This is how professional negotiators operate. Compare with the bombast of that "artful dealmaker" they have on the other side of the pond. The UK's position is, sadly, somewhere in the middle, as is so often the case.

I have complete faith in Boris Johnson and co. to make an entertaining circus out of it.

Well, there's plenty of clowns, but where's the ringmaster?

While London decides to stop backing wind power, it makes progress nonetheless.

Last month wind power provided enough energy for 136% of Scottish households

Scottish turbines provided 1.2 million megawatt hours of electricity to the National Grid in March

Last month wind turbines provided enough energy to meet the electrical needs of 136 per cent of Scottish households, the equivalent of 3.3 million homes.

Scottish turbines provided 1.2 million megawatt hours of electricity to the National Grid in March, an increase of 81 per cent compared to the same month last year, an analysis of WeatherEnergy data by WWF Scotland found.

Wind power generated the equivalent of 58 per cent of Scotland's entire electricity needs for the month.

On two days, wind turbines generated more than Scotland's total power needs for the entire day. (…)

It should also help move away from oil dependence.

Scotland is powered by Mel Gibson screaming freedom at their turbines.

If you read the Independent you'd know that a Swede has scientifically proven that Australia doesn't exist.

Now, for more news. Not only does Ma'am Minister refuse to condemn the atrocities committed in Yemen by the Saudi-led alliance (those people do buy British weapons after all) but now Boris Johnson in a mask Liam Fox claims that the UK shares values with the self-professed murderer Rodrigo Duterte. We can only expect Phillip Hammond to tell the Indians they should be grateful for the Raj or the Boris himself to call the Germans Huns.

Also,
Up to 100,000 UK jobs at risk as Merkel and Juncker ally warns on euro clearing
EU lawmaker Manfred Weber says sector must relocate out of City of London after Brexit

The future of an estimated 100,000 jobs has been plunged into doubt after a close political ally of the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, and president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, warned that a prized sector in the City of London must relocate to EU soil after Brexit. (…)

A recent report from the accountants Ernst & Young echoed those comments, but additionally claimed that losing the business could have “a significant domino effect on jobs and revenue”, hitting up to 232,000 workers throughout the UK. (…)

Britain fought a four-year battle in the courts to block an attempt in 2011 by the European Central Bank to require clearing houses with significant euro-denominated business to be based in the euro zone. (…)

Ok, that indeed doesn't sound good at all.

These days, international diplomacy is reported all over the world, long before the goverments in question have time to spin it appropriately.

Neither the text of the BBC report:

The international trade secretary, who will also visit Malaysia and Indonesia on his trip, said in an article published in local media that he wanted Britain to build a stronger relationship with the Philippines based on “a foundation of shared values and shared interests”
.

nor the referenced article

imply any support for President Duterte's policy of killing the druggies.

Ever thought of reading the articles first?

Shared values, eh ?
Don't mention the Opium Wars.

Ever thought of reading the articles first?
Pfft! Who has time for that?
I'm pretty sure the Opium Wars was to ensure the Supply and Market of Opium in China.
The Chinese noticed that opium was destroying their country so they banned it.
The British then corrected this injustice ensuring that the chinese could continue to enjoy opium.

And what precisely has that got to do with this thread about Britain being about to leave the EU?
