To Mael Coluim, High King of Dal'Riata by the will of Sol, a man whos fame in war is only exceeded by the fame of his wisdom, I, Angelo, who has been found worthy to be the personal priest of my Lord Makar, Emperor of Iceni and Faithful Shepherd of those within his lands, present this tract in honor of your wisdom.
For, when I heard of that you had embraced the Light, and many of your subjects likewise followed you in your decision, my heart leapt within me and I bid my fellow priests to have a day of thanksgiving, and did myself do likewise. So, on the first day of the week, which, in honor of Sol Invictus who is first above all, we call Sunday, a joyous shout was heard throughout the lands, so that the very celestial bodies shook in their places from the noise.
For in previous times, the kingdoms of Iceni and DalRiata were mortal enemies. For does not nature itself teach us that light and darkness are mortal enemies? For where the Sun is absent, there is darkness, and how great is that darkness! But when the Sun comes, darkness flees in terror, therefore it hates the Sun and continually seeks to undo it. If therefore the hate of the Light and Darkness is so great, is it any wonder that their sons likewise hate each other? For true children of the Light are like stars in the sky which shine in the darkness, dispelling it where they shine. And some lights Sol has appointed to shine greater than others but the greatest of all is the Lord-Pontiff, who shines like the moon in the sky.
Therefore, there are many stars, but only one Sun, and under him, one Moon. For there are many lights, of various ranks, some nobles, some priests, some arch-priests, but only one Moon who is Lord of the Stars, and one Sun, who is Lord Over All. Therefore, all stars worship the Sun, but give reverence to the Moon to whom Sol has given authority to reign until His coming. But the Moon does not horde the Light, as a miser hordes his gold, but distributes it freely upon men, depending on their worth so that the Emperor of Gaul may be called, (by analogy), the Morning Star, and my Lord, the Iceni Emperor may be likened to the Dog Star, and you, o Lord of the North, may be likened to the North Star who guards all the faithful who wish to venture north.
But just as the stars in the heavens themselves rejoiced as you joined their number, the Sons of Darkness cursed and raged, for they had lost one who was chief among them. Therefore, do not be surprised, o Lord, when the Darkness seeks to overwhelm you, like a wave crashing on the beach. For they think that you, who were born to them is theirs by right, while ignoring the second birth which made you a Son of Light. Therefore, they will seek to reclaim you as something theirs by right.
But you are no longer a son of darkness, for you have been made an heir to the kingdom of Light. For just like through adoption a man is no longer the son of his birth parents, but of the one who adopted him, so too you are no longer the son of darkness, but of the who adopted you, namely the one who is the Father of Light. Therefore, as a dearly loved son, your Father will defend you, as a mother bear protects her cubs. And if He defends you, what do you have to fear? Or is He called Sol Invictus for nothing? Nay, the title is not vain! But what does history teach us? Does it not teach that He protects his own? Or what of Gaul, who He raised up to make the chief jewel in His crown? Or what about Iceni who was hammered by the strong right arm of Darkness? But yet, the Darkness failed, for when he was done hammering, he found that he had not broken the work of Sol, but had hardened it, making it a sharp sword of the Light.
But what need do I have to tell you of anothers history, when you merely must look at your own? Or who among you will forget that day while you still have breath? For in that day when it appeared that Night would last forever upon the glorious nation of Dal'Riata, and men everywhere had despaired to ever see the Sun rise, He rose in all his glory, smashing the darkness as a man shatters a spoiled piece of pottery by throwing it on the ground. And in that day, you yourself conquered in the name of the one who has never been conquered. For in that day, the forces of Darkness were arrayed against you, who had long blasphemed the name of the One-Who-Is-Above-All. And He, declared that this day the works they had done in the darkness would me shone in the Light. And so your enemies became blinded by the shining glory of the Shinning-One and they found themselves judged and you were His executioner. And like a faithful servant, you executed the judgment upon those who were condemned, until their blood flowed like a river, even unto the knees of your horses.
Therefore I write these things to you, as a fellow son of the Light, showing that we stand with you until that day when the Darkness is crushed forever and the Light shines on all men, and Night shall be no more for the Sun shall shine forever.
