Kanye West: The voice of our generation

Yeah. See, even if I didn't listen to him, I think I would at least be aware of the existence of the most vital musician of the past decade before hearing about him on CFC OT threads.

Never heard of him. Spanish media never talked about him.

I know of him from that incident, and prior incidents of shameless self promotion. Not from anything he did that might have been legitimately praise worthy.

What he did to Taylor Swift was a stunt. Not drunkenness. He knew what he was doing, and he deliberately ruined one of the best nights of a young performer's life just to make him be the big man.

Chapter Two Quiz

1. Is Kanye West sorry for interrupting Taylor Swift?

2. Does Kanye West being drunk increase or decrease his likelihood of acting like a jackass? Show your work.

3. Is the "Today" show part of the vast anti-West conspiracy? Why or why not?

4. Does George W. Bush care about black people? Why not?

5. Is Kanye West's dark twisted fantasy actually beautiful?

6. If an album drops in November, and it was released by Kanye West, does he intentionally say something stupid so that it will make headlines, generating buzz for his sound?

7. Can you think of any problem in any area of human endeavor on any scale, from microscopic to global, whose long-term solution is in any demonstrable way aided, assisted, or advanced by further increases in population, locally, nationally, or globally? Explain how the exponential growth of the human population will exhaust our non-renewable resources within the next century. What significance will scientific discoveries play in allowing further growth? How much growth is sustainable? Show your work using first year college level calculus.

8. So I herd you like mudkips, so we put a mudkip on your mudkip so you can interrupt while I interrupt. Explain why you no longer like mudkips.

Comedy. Gold.

I think I love you.

Effin' mudkips on my CFC...

I have to say that I'm really glad for living a life with minimal exposure to the likes of Kanye.

True, twitter is not really the problem as much as a symptom of a larger problem, if at all.

There's a derogatory term that i refer to "twitterers" as, but i don't think the autocensor would like the second word. With some thought, i'm sure the adults here could infer what i mean :mischief:

Twitterers are twits who tweet :p

No offense or anything, but if you haven't heard of Kanye West, you probably haven't been following mainstream music too closely.

That's true. And there are quite a few mainstream artists I am probably not aware of. But I doubt I would not be aware of the single most vital musician on earth right now (which is what that post was in reference to), so obviously Kayne West isn't that.

Yo, Off-Topic, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Humor and Joke had one of the best threads of all time! One of the best threads of all time!

I never said he was the most vital musician on earth right now though.

Also, I've just realized I should've specified that he was the most vital musician still active in the past decade, as in terms of influence the likes of the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, etc. tower above him.

Still, arguing that he isn't making vital music because you haven't heard of him doesn't really make much sense. It simply means that you've been missing out on great music.

I just listened to some of his songs for the first time (Diamonds from Sierra Leone and Stronger) and I've got to ask:

What the *censored* is this *censored*?

He doesn't create his music, he steals it (from Daft Punk and Shirley Bassey in these songs) and adds some rap rhythm and his lyrics have absolutely nothing special. Any good rapper could do the same.

I’m livin’ in the 21st century
Doin’ something mean to it
Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it
Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it
I guess every superhero need his theme music

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
(21st century schizoid man)

The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open
We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’f-cka, we rollin’
Huh? Ma’f-cka, we rollin’
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands
In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, f-ck that, the World’s ours

And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)

Kinda do like his songs, even sometimes they are a little afrocentric in some of the lines as this one.

Well I wouldn't say putting a pop singer as "the voice of our generation", but do agree he is somewhat a byproduct from where we came from. If that make any sense of course.

21st century schizoid man? Thats deep dawg.

Hah! Fair enough.

That said, 'of the past decade' =/= 'on earth right now', and as I said I forgot to note that I was talking only about current artists, because the likes of Bob Dylan (for instance) are still alive, and based off past achievements have certainly done more.

Welcome to hip hop where you let someone else write the creative music and you just supply some lyrics.
