Of course I would like to attend the Winter Olympics, but even that grand event barely scratches my love of sport. The following are sporting events I would like to attend:

The Nomad Games
  • Take place in Asia
  • Feature traditional nomadic sports like horseback wrestling and setting people on fire

The London Pantomime Horse Race
  • “Every year, the organiser aims to make the event even more surreal and magical than the previous year”
  • Has a charity Xmas party afterwards. You know, for kids

The X Games
  • Against all odds, both winter and summer games are extreme to the max, bro
  • Notable for their inclusion of motorsports you might actually want to watch
  • Probably features the best music of any sporting event

Cowal Highland Gathering
  • Features men in skirts throwing logs
  • Probably some decent whisky on offer
  • Good eggs too

Rabbit agility events
  • Bunnies are totally cute, man
What real sporting events do you want to see?

World Series game.
World Cup/UEFA/CL final

I want to attend the World Cup, but the next 2 are held in countries I don't want to visit. I don't want to be walking around in a Poland jersey in Russia for instance, and I really don't want to go to Qatar.

Fortunately the 2026 WC might actually be held in Canada! Also the U.S. and Mexico, but if we win the bid, 10 games will be in Canada. One of the stadiums in the running so far is a stadium I visit 15+ times a year, as a season ticket holder. That won't necessarily make it any easier for me to get tickets, but it might help.

Other than that, maybe the Euros. But only if Poland is in and doing well. For the WC I won't mind if neither Canada or Poland are in, it would still be a fun time.

I also wouldn't mind attending an NHL game, I've never been to one. It's not crazy high on my list, but I've just never gone because Maple Leaf tickets are way overpriced. Plus there's so many suits, from what I've heard anyway. I'd prefer to be in an arena with a better atmosphere, such as let's say Montreal.

October 3 - Minnesota Twins vs New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox, in Yankee Stadium, New York City or Fenway Park, Boston, baseball American League Wild-Card Game
October 7 - South Africa vs New Zealand in Cape Town, Rugby Championship match day 7
October 17 - Real Madrid vs Tottenham in Estadio Bernabeu, Madrid, UEFA Champions League match day 3
November 4 - UFC 217, Michael Bisping vs Georges St. Pierre in Madison Square Garden, New York City, middle-weight title fight
January 13 - Boston Bruins vs Montreal Canadiens in Montreal, NHL ice hockey

I would love to one day attend an NCAA tournament game with my local university's men's basketball team. But they're a MAC school so not only are the chances of them making it slim (3 times in my lifetime, for instance), but they could also be seeded halfway across the country for the first round (which is basically what has happened the last couple times they've been in). I'd have to have them get in AND get a nearby bracket region like Detroit or Chicago. The odds of all that coming together are super, super, super slim.

I've been to three AFL grand finals which is pretty much the best thing. Except when you lose.

I have a vague ambition of going to the rugby world cup in Japan in 2019 but I am not sure if I'll make it.

The Olympics for me, ideally some summer, some winter. Kinda wish I'd gone to Vancouver in 2010, but I didn't have money then so I don't blame myself for skipping that one. Going to try to attend the next Olympics in North America. Or maybe catch one on another continent in the interim if I can make a good trip out of it.

I've read about the Nomad Games, they sound cool as well. But they aren't as high on my list, in part because they're really far away.

I've been to a couple NHL games. Definitely a good time, would recommend.

That sounds like a fun time, see you there

I want to see more hockey games. I've only ever been to one. Vancouver's team and fan base leave much to be desired so I'm looking forward to when Seattle gets a team and I can watch them vs. the Leafs.

I'd like to go to a college football playoff game. I've been to a major bowl game and the Big Ten conference title game, now I just need to find a way to get to a playoff game.

I would love to one day attend an NCAA tournament game with my local university's men's basketball team.

Same here. I've been to NCAA tournament games but never one with Xavier. I did see Xavier play in the NIT though about 20 or so years ago.

EDIT: I'd also like to see at least one game in every MLB stadium. So far I've only seen games in the Reds' and Mets' stadium.

Gladatorial combat between people I don't like.
Wrestling and boxing are still the 2 big categories of sports.

U-15 Soccer Games are the cool ones to watch. Both the college baseball and volleyball tournaments have fast scoring rules.

A lot of the best sporting events are only great in hindsight. Like Australia v Uruguay in 2005. Steve Waugh's final ball Ashes century. Cathy Freeman's 400m gold. The 2001 Bledisloe. They could have been pretty boring or run of the mill events. So it's hard to say what future sporting events I'd like to see. Like, I'm sure I'll go to the Boxing Day Test someday, but it might rain the time or be against Sri Lanka or something. It's impossible to bank of it being a fantastic experience. Random BBL attendance might end up providing a better experience by chance foruch less money.

Yeah, I think it's doubtful I'll ever attend a better soccer game than the 2015 Asian Cup QF between Iran and Iraq
