Maninisim

I like Conan the Barbarian too much so no feminist will ever take me seriously. Equal rights are good though, I want more commando women and construction worker women while I go and be a stay-at-home dad playing Civ and making awesome treehouses.

There are men's support groups, I just imagine they go off into the woods & bang drums & talk about their inadequate daddies. I'd be somewhat curious to attend but I'd rather go camping & talk about my sensitive issues with girls, there's better chance at sex that way.

In my experience men are much more prone to shame & silence than women, it's a major problem. My dad was very much cool & stoic, I am very much not. I think having a tough/stoic mindset & feeling like they cannot show weakness may be part of why men live shorter lives than women in the modern world (that & more risk taking).

I feel men are being disrespected because there are so many fewer posts in this thread than the one on feminism.

While I think we ought to have a discussion about masculinity and the definition of a man in modern society, I don't think it's possible to do so without getting lumped in with men's rights activists and crucified.

Well, why don't we try?

I call dips on this wonderful wonderful word shown in the title (edit argh goooshh... it should say Maninism, not isim... Man I blew it...).
Oh an this thread is about it.

Doesn't matter as you got the thread title wrong anyway: the other side of feminism isn't maninism (horribile dictu).

Shouldn't it be called Malism or else perhaps masculinism?
"Masculism" is usually used. ("Masculinism" seems intuitive, but if you consider that feminism is constructed as "femin-ism" rather than "fem-inism", you can see that it would be incorrect.)

There's plenty of scholarship of masculinity and male identity, and they're not usually lumped in with MRAism. If anything, they're considered the opposite, because they look at the topic critically, which MRAs are as a rule incapable of doing.

(Closest they seem to get is lamenting the dominance of "jocks" over "nice guys", but all that ever amounts to is propounding an alternate standard of masculinity which favours intellect over physical confidence.)

By an amusing coincidence, the latest issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education reports on how practitioners in the field of men's studies feel that their discipline has not, in its forty years of existence, been able to find a focus or identity. At the same time, there's a newly emerging "male studies" that sees itself as distinct from men's studies!

Not sure that's it. The best theorizing I've read(for whatever that sample happens to be worth) seems to indicate it's at least partly(in addition to the lifestyle choices(smoking/drinking/not going to doctor)) a factor of men not building as many meaningful social relationships outside of their mates/immediate family. Particularly mates. People need a reason to go on, and widows more often seem to find purpose in continued nurturing and friendships than do widowers, who more frequently just drift for a shorter time then leave.

Maninism ? Sure why not ^^ Women oppression must end ! :D It's basically the same scene everywhere around the world : After a very long (and hard) day of playing Civ or watching sports with a few well-mannered friends (while enjoying a glass of beer or two ... sometimes seven) women barges into the room like an infuriated dictator and starts shouting profanities at You and Your friends and before You know it You're repairing the sink in the kitchen or mowing the lawn just to escape the fire-breathing godzilla :D We must act soon to stop this oppressive matriarchy ! :D

I think that the proper educational material is the life of a poor oppressed Al Bundy in his epic life story drama entitled "Married with children" :D

I feel discriminated because the female thread got more responses than the male thread and it's an issue so that I bump ! ^^ :bump: C'mon man ! We can do this ! Let's overthrow an oppressive matriarchy of our times ! Many women are more "man"* than we are and we need to stand now !

*They must have grown balls and a "pair" if You know what I mean ....

Meh, I've always been suspicious of categories like that as fields in themselves, and find it more useful to see them as tools applied to other fields. That's how I came across this sort of stuff, taking Military History classes.

I think it's at the same time too broad and too narrow to stand as a field in itself.

Have You got a wife at least once in a lifetime ?? Than You would't go suspicious about some categories or something ! I have not been paying attention  .... Anyway stop being Your wife's man , start being a man ! ^^

Well, "maninism" is already invented. Check, for example, red pill philosophy or - surprise - masculinists' blogs. Their main point (absolutely valid) is that modern feminism is mostly scam.

The list is quite good, though labeling an article made by a Google search as "intelligence report" is a bit too pompous. "Misogyny" is too harsh, these guys are no more misogynic as your average "The Patriarchy" conspiracy believerice is misoandric.

I suppose this is the thread for this. I've always had a problem with the phrase "Save the women and children!". What about the men? Are they not to be saved? Are they expected to save themselves?

It just seems like an odd, antiquated expression in a society where men and women are viewed as equals.

Yes it should go "save man "! ;) Women and children too but man should be saved as well ;)
