"Mein Kempf" is a must read for Turks

Sadly, I doubt many read MK and took it seriously in the 1920-30s...They should have.

That book is a crap. Hitler was a very bad writer.
I agree, not only stupid stances and ignorance, but also badly written.

As Hjalmar Schacht, Secretary of Economy in the 30s in Germany, one of the 3 found 'not guilty' in the Nuernberg main trial and (arguably) the most intelligent of the elite prisoners after the war, told to one of his interrogators:
"You must admit Hitler was a genius".

I guess the statement is hard to be proven wrong.
Appearently being a genius does not per se correlate positively with good morals.

Well Anti-semitism aside, Hitler was a genius in taking power and propoganda, he was not a genius in military stradegy...

Anyway reading Mein Kampf doesn't make you Anti-semitic or racist, everyone must admit it is an important historical document, which gives insight into one of the most powerful men in the world at his time. I personally have never read it and have no desire to.

Anti-semitism in a Muslim nation, DUH!!!!!

Why do you think that most of the nations around Israel are angry with them, its mainly religious. That's what I think it is anyway.
This has to be the most simplistic view of world politics I have ever seen.

I was just reading up about the Palestinians in Lebanon - just look at the history of that country (it's one of the ones 'surrounding' Israel). Now come back and tell me that Lebanon is "angry with Israel because they are Muslims who hate Jews".

Man, I have trouble with CFC sometimes...

I wish Stalin had wrote an autobiography.
It would be filled with lies, of course, and probably wouldn't contain any of Stalin's actual views (because the Soviet people wouldn't take kindly to the truth), but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Please tell me you are not going to compare Turkey to somewhere like Iran?

Saying Turkey is more secular than Iran is about as meaningless as it gets.
Turkey is not secular by Western standards. I hear they have a much reduced sentence for murder if you can prove it's an "Honour killing".
It's moving in the right direction, though...

I believe Mein Kampf was to the public of Nazi Germany what the bible is in many Western countries. Almost everybody owned, it, but only a few fanatics actually bothered to read it. Anyway i too don't see the fuss over it, is that article basically saying reading Mein Kampf is proof of growing anti-semitism?

And your pointless comparison of cultures, based on your individual viewpoint has meaning?

What do you prefer, Turkey than Taliban?

Methinks it is time you done some research on the 'real' Turkey, rather than this jihadist fantasy you have been fed.

:)

Turkey is by far the most secular, westernised, and least extreme country in the middle east.

Don't get me wrong. Turkey is the most secular and democratic country in the ME.
It is still very much in the transition to a level of secularism comparable to Western Europe, however.

We can agree on that.

btw, referring to the thread title, I read somewhere that the book market in Turkey is very small and that a few thousand copies are enough to reach the top ten. So it were probably a few loonies that bought it, it is luckily not a million seller there.

Probably the worst book I ever read, couldn't stand to read it to the end.

Considering the fact that the hatred against the jews is the central part of Hitler's ideology, and the Turks certainly don't care how Germany has suffered and can rise to power (again), it is a bit annoying. Why the hell would anyone buy it? Most people are normally not interested in politics or history...

Well, that certainly doesn't count as a proof, it may be more like an indication. Time for some serious surveys.

BTW, I think, ~2 million copies of Mein Kampf were sold before 1933. It was a best seller before the Nazis came to power. This actually isn't surprising, since antisemitism was highly popular, not only among Nazis...

edit:
Oh well, if the book market is really that small...;)
But then, it's still kind of strange.

Although he was not the official author, the Secretary-General did revise and change many parts of his authorised biography, named IIRC A short biography of Stalin. As expected, the book is full of lies, exaggerating his role in the Civil War and also his accomplishments during his reign. I only read pieces of the book, and they are only interesting because they provide some insight about the kind of propaganda the soviet people had to swallow.

Well, amongst black Africans, Hitler is pretty popular (ironically). As one of them explained to me, they admire Hitler because he kicked the butts of their colonial oppressors. The whole racism/genocide bit of Hitler's legacy does not really register. They just like the imagery of someone grinding the faces of their colonial masters in the dirt. They see WW2 as a justified punishment for the white man.

A very sad reflection of the public education system, indeed! :(

It is odd that the black community could ever glorify Hitler, especially in light of the fact that he held blacks in lower regard than Jews and had plans to continue his racial extermination plans to all non-white races throughout the world.

I'm not sure if glorifying Hitler is based upon ignorance or stupidity by blacks.
