NBA 2012/13 thread

No it's not. There's no way that out of the 7 billion people in the world, you can't find 24 that are good at basketball. Yeah the teams will probably be bad at first, but they will get better as long as MJ isn't GM.

Then why are players like Juwan Howard, Alonzo Gee, Byron Mullens, DeSanga Diop, Cartier Martin, Quentin Richardson, Tracy McGrady, Channing Frye, P.J. Tucker, Joel Freeland, Elliot Williams, Andres Bierdines, Festus Elezi (this list could go on for about 50 players) still have NBA contracts?

Look at the draft this year. It sucks. This is professional basketball, not minor league basketball.

There's not enough talent to make 15 competitive teams (the 8th seed in the East always sucks) let alone 30.

Can anyone explain why Bill Simmons is still going on his rant about the Celtics were screwed over this year? I know he is the ultimate homer, but this is like Steve Spurrier voting Duke as the #25 team in the nation every year type ridiculousness.

Because that's Bill Simmons. In order to get the funny one-liners and mostly well-informed insights you're going to have to wade through piles of bullcrap about the Red Sox and Celtics that nobody particularly wants to hear.

I want you all to know I am sitting in a sports bar in LA watching this and it is fun

Oh man, regardless of who wins game 7, this has been an absolutely stupendous series.

I quit. Two obvious calls blown. Whatever, have the champs you want NBA.

Did you expect any less from Joe Crawford? When he officiates, it's all about him.

Watching Game 7 in Portland! Unfortunately the Spurs are done. But still.

I will admit that Boris Diaw's man boobs should have won the Defensive Player of the Year.

Lol. I agree with this.

I can't think of a time a basketball game has ever made me angrier... not even the Kansas WKU game or the Wichita State UL game. Of course UL won that game so the anger left quickly and turned into unfathomable joy...

DON'T CARE WHAT WAS POSTED AFTER MY LAST POST

I am OUT

Tough loss for the Spurs. Officiating was horrible, but they blew calls both ways, IMHO. Maybe a little more obvious against the Spurs towards the end, but I think the Spurs just ran out of steam towards the end and their shots just didn't fall like in the 4th and OT like they did earlier.

Miami has the momentum now, and with game 7 on their home floor I can't see them blowing it. Great series so far, hope it will be a good game 7...

Momentum doesn't actually exist. And it certainly doesn't exist in a series where no team has lost two games in a row yet. The Heat might very well win this next game, but it won't be "momentum" that does it.

Agreed. Spurs blew it, but come ooooon...Bosh hit Green directly on the arm, that is textbook 3 shots. He probably misses at least one but why even have the refs out there if they're not going to call anything?

I think I might actually quit sports for a year or two though. This loss affected me way more than it should have and football season is coming up...ugh.

Really? So all those teams that have gone on hot streaks to win championships weren't aided by momentum in some way? The 2011 MLB champion St. Louis Cardinals would probably disagree with you with that improbable extra innings World Series game 6 win followed by an easy win in game 7 at home. And that's just one example of momentum.

Let's just agree to disagree on this, OK?

Have you been watching the series Darkness? Hell, I'm sure there is a youtube compilations of all the 180s the (usually reasonable sans Magic Johnson) ABC/ESPN pregame crew have taken throughout this series.

W-L-W-L-W-L, with 4 consecutive blowouts sandwiched between 2 close games.

If the Spurs lose it will be because we keep throwing the damn ball away. Parker and Ginobili both had horrific nights. Usually I would be optimistic because they can't both be that terrible in consecutive games, but this is the goddamn finals and they might have wasted Tim Duncan's "MJ" game. Blowing the big lead in the 4th didn't even bother me, it was more the boneheaded shots and passes when it was clear they were either gassed (Parker) or pressing (Ginobili).

I want to say they'll be less tired for game 7, miami can't keep up defensive intensity, rotations will kill the Heat who are on their last legs, overconfidence will affect the Heat, but god that loss sucked.

If we can't push it down their throats without turning the ball over 20 times we deserve to lose though. That's the only way I thought we COULD lose :(

EDIT: Also, come on. Last year SA really had all the momentum going into game 3 against OKC right? Or when Dallas took 6 games to beat Portland in the first round in 2011 only to leave a trail of Kobe, Durant, and LeBron tears on the way to Nowitzki's first championship. I mean, it's obvious, the NBA is not MLB or NHL. There is no real equivalent to the hot pitcher, closer, hitter, or goalie.

Manu and Leonard GOT to make the free throws  .

I think maybe Timmy would/could have secured those rebounds and the Spurs would be celebrating today... instead LeBron and Ray Allen both got second chance 3s. :(
