Day 7

~Pandaholme: Immaculate, Lord of Elves, North King and Seon

Spoiler :

This is a day of encounters. In the morning, while Lord of Elves roots out the last edible vegetables from the gardens (those not eaten by the forest deer and boar), and while Immaculate starts working on a stone monument near the hut, North King arrives and introduces himself. With his charming nature and gift of parrot feathers, he soon has the others at ease. North King is fascinated by Immaculate's monument, but his first task is to make himself an ornate stone pickaxe. By that time Immaculate has finished the monument, and there is the growing concern of the forest fire in the east, with clouds of smoke growing ever darker. Immaculate offers prayers to Pawahom, the elder spirits, the Great Pandas, the creators of the forest, to sooth their displeasure and ask for relief. Almost immediately there is a change in the wind, and the first drops of rain follow soon after. The hut is saved from destruction.

Meanwhile, Lord of Elves has already ventured out into the forest to chop wood ahead of the flames. It is there she meets Seon, who is a little bedraggled, burnt and blackened, but nonetheless well-fed, having found toasted lizards and cooked birds eggs to feed upon. Immaculate and North King arrive soon after, and the four of you briefly forage together in the burnt part of the forest, finding a ready-cooked boar which you share out between yourselves – unfortunately the skin is too burnt to be useful. Other scavengers are also at work, and you sense big cats on the prowl, so as night falls you return to the cave and hut. Immaculate offers shelter to Lord of Elves again; being aware of North King's charm, Immaculate steps up his advances on Lord of Elves, and this time manages to seduce her. North King and Seon meanwhile rest and get to know each other in the cave, with its ambient blue mood-lighting emanating from the walls.

Immaculate wakes with 5AP and now has: a Stone Axe, a Hoe, a Stone Pickaxe, a Linen Blanket, Parrot Feathers, as well as String (Sinew), Cooked Meat, and Bones picked up from the forest. Lord of Elves has 4AP, 1x Lumber, a Stone Axe and Stone Spear, and is strangely hungry today. Garden patches can be replanted for 1AP each.

North King and Seon have 4AP each. Seon has no items, and is covered in ash and mud. North King has Parrot Feathers, a Stone Spear and Stone Pickaxe (Ornate). Both of you are disturbed by a very large black cat that is sniffing around the cave entrance.

Omega124: you have a very frustrating morning, attempting to hunt rabbits with your spear. The rabbits are wary creatures and very quick to disappear into burrows or into undergrowth. You can only nibble on a few herbs and vegetable leaves as you return home. Later in the day, you take time to meditate and pray to the energy you sense within your stone monument. You then settle to sleep, sheltered but still hungry. When you awake, it seems your prayers have been answered, as you notice the river is jumping with fish once again - although large bears seem to have noticed this too. Also, though the air has grown cooler, it seems the nearby mountain is holding back the advance of ice from the north; steam rises from its peak, and a dull red glow emanates from the large cave at its heart. Chronic hunger has weakened you, but has left you feeling clear-headed and sensitive to subtle forces; you sense an ethereal presence nearby. You have 3AP and have gained the 'Spiritual' trait.

Nintz: again you attempt to posses a powerful bear, but its spirit is too strong for you. You are ejected, and for a while lose your fragile focus on the physical world; terrain passes beneath you, as you feel yourself being drawn to a source of spiritual energy. You are unsure how far or in what direction you have moved, and can no longer sense Optical nearby.

Spoiler :

Herobrine and Merciary: you both take some time to tend the garden patches today, and things look promising. While Merciary goes out hunting, Herobrine rests in the hut and makes a fine set of bone ornaments for herself. Merciary does not wish to stray too far, and has no luck with the hunt – however, he makes friends with a lone wolf, perhaps an outcast from the pack, giving it some fish meat. It follows Merciary home but does not get too close to the hut. In the afternoon, Merciary is busy making a pickaxe and breaking up rocks, again not straying too far from the hut. There is a sense of expectation as the day draws to a close. Herobrine has instinctively taken time to meditate and prepare herself; through a difficult sleepless night, to the sound of howling wolves, two new lives are brought into the world – non-identical twins, a boy and a girl! Their mother has been fairly well fed and well rested, and the newborns are looking healthy also.

Herobrine has 3AP today, is now very hungry and will want to nurture her babies at all times. Merciary has 4AP. The garden patches have a mix of plants, some are ready to harvest and some are not; another 1AP tending will result in some food.

Items at the hut: 1x Bones, 1x Fish Skin, 1x Backpack, 1x Stone Tools, 2x Stone Spears, 1x Stone Axe, 1x Hoe, 2x Fishbone Ornament (wearing 1 each), 1x Boarskin Shield, 1x Pickaxe, 1x Stone Blocks.

---

Justo: Your first day in this world is not without some drama. In the morning you fashion a stone spear, careful of giant apes nearby and sabre-tooths roaming the valley below. In the afternoon you go hunting for goat meat. Your ranger instincts kick in; you are able to patiently track down, stalk and ambush a goat, killing it with a clean spear thrust to the heart. As you prepare to butcher your kill, you are suddenly aware of a large shape moving towards you; you have covered a lot of ground during the day, and have now crossed into the territory of a dire-boar – one that seems intent on stealing your kill. Your split-second decision is to stand firm behind your spearpoint, as you doubt you can flee the beast without injury. Time slows to a crawl as the massive beast lunges at you, moving at full speed, opening its jaws to expose fangs as long as your forearm. But fortune is on your side; the beast impales itself on your spear, the tip piercing the back of its mouth and exiting through its neck. You are splattered with dire boar blood and the beast dies after a few short moments struggle. Your spear is ruined; your body is bruised but otherwise unharmed.

Night begins to fall. You prioritise the goat kill, butchering it with your broken-off spearpoint and retreating to nearby trees. You dine on raw goat flesh and delicious grapes growing on vines in the tree, then settle to sleep – as much sleep as you can get, with the sound of wolves howling nearby. Also during the night, you see a fire twinkling in the distant north-east. You awake with 4AP, to find a wolf pack is cautiously circling the dire boar kill, apparently unsure if it is really dead. You now have 1x Goatskin, 1x Stone Tools (spearpoint), 1x Bones (goat skull), 1x Goat Meat.

Milarqui: In your new form, the daylight is unbearable. You emerge from the undergrowth at night and pick up the trail of the dire-boar. You seek vengence, though your mind is fractured and you can no longer remember why... It does not matter. Raw emotion and energy flow through you. You track down your prey through moonlit forests, and after a brief struggle, your overpower and dismember your foe. You feast on part of its body and now feel yourself changing, absorbing the power of the dire boar and morphing into a stronger form. You drag the remnants of the carcass towards the place where you sense human beings and leave it there, as some kind of sign, before returning to your den as the sun rises. As you rest, you sense a source of spiritual energy to the north-east.

Optical

You have a lie in this morning, catching up on some rest. You awake again at mid-day to go check your traps. You are fortunate to find a large mouse-like creature, which you promptly cook over the fire. You spend the evening reinforcing your cave entrance with an assembly of branches, which seems a wise decision as wolves and large bears are prowling nearby. Nonetheless, after pausing for a moments nap before dawn, you awake to find a small wildcat has penetrated your defences and snuggled up by the fire. It seems rather friendly.

You have 4AP, but are rather hungry today. Again, you are wary of a large bear nearby. Giant Mouse pelt can be made into a belt or small item of clothing.

Alex994

JaBJ0pA.png

You spend the morning eating and gathering up berries from the small island you had drifted to. The endless chatter of giant penguins and sea lions begins to wear at your senses, and so in the afternoon you push out to sea once again, somewhat aimlessly. Though the sea is fairly calm, you feel painfully exposed to the forces of nature. Wind and waves return you to your starting point, but there is a sense of unease; the great mountain continues to smoulder and rumble. You collapse to sleep as night falls. You are awoken by a violent explosion at dawn; rocks fall from the sky, and the mountain appears to be on fire. But a comforting feeling emanates from your totem - perhaps this turmoil will soon pass. You have 3AP, weakened by exposure to sea winds, and have: Stone Tools, Stone Spear, Backpack, 1x Pink Berries.

tuxedohamm, Angst and TerrisH

J5hmYnE.png

Your tribe is malnourished and exposed to the cold winds of the lakes. You unanimously decide to start moving south-east. tuxedohamm prays for good fortune, while TerrisH matures quickly during the day, seeming to take the lead with an instinct to protect his mother. Foraging looks more promising as you head to the river flowing out of the lake, where shellfish and vegetables are found in greater numbers. But you disturb the territory of a feisty, angry giant moose. While tuxedohamm and TerrisH struggle on across the shallows, Angst acts as a distraction and is caught by the charging moose. He manages to wound the creature in return, but is struck hard and falls, knocking his head on rocks in the shallows. Angst drifts unconscious with the flowing river as tuxedohamm and TerrisH look on, helpless. His lungs fill with water, and when he awakes he is no longer chained to a mortal body.

tuxedohamm and TerrisH have no choice but to press on. Berry bushes are nearby on the opposite bank, offering food and shelter as night falls and cold winds draw in. The hoe proves useful for collecting fruit from tall branches. At dawn, TerrisH finds his father's ornamental stone tools lying on the riverbank, and tuxedohamm can sense his spirit close by; she has recovered quickly thanks to her spiritual and hardy nature, and has 3AP. TerrisH now has 3AP and is rapidly going through adolescence. He may now choose his bonus trait of adulthood, but having been malnourished as a child he has not picked up any extra traits from his parents. You are wary of a large bear approaching the berry bushes.

Patchy, ChineseWarlord and thomas.berubeg

ShEJqe0.png

ChineseWarlord and Patchy start the day heading west, to pick up sticks from the trees. Patchy soon gets enough to make a fire and returns to the cave. ChineseWarlord stays on the collect more large sticks, perhaps for making a barrier across the cave entrance. However, this is the territory of a sabre-tooth lion. ChineseWarlord is being stalked. While busy assembling a bundle of sticks, the sabre-tooth pounces from the undergrowth. There is only a few moments of combat. ChineseWarlord is left curled in a ball with a broken spear, but alive, and not sure exactly what just happened. The sabre-tooth is also wounded, and perhaps deciding it does not like the taste of human, it retreats for now.

Using her slingshot, Patchy brings down a couple of yellow-feathered birds in the afternoon and takes them back to the cave for cooking, discovering their meat is rather palatable. As the sun begins to set, both the wounded ChineseWarlord and a newcomer, thomas.berubeg arrive at the cave, leading to a tense atmosphere. ChineseWarlord has some serious wounds and has spent all day recovering, being unable to carry anything back to the cave. Thomas offers a few small fish in return for shelter, and together with some foraging from near the cave, there is enough food to keep everyone fed. The cave is left undisturbed during the night.

In the morning, the air seems warmer and drier. Patchy has 4AP, a Sling and snakeskin. Thomas has 3AP, a Linen Blanket, stick and Stone Tools. ChineseWarlord is still injured but has 3AP thanks to his hardy nature, and he has a Linen Blanket and a stick (spear has been broken). 1x Yellow Feathers and 1x Small Bones are at your camp.

talonschild

tdIkEOc.png

You fashion your linen blanket into fitted clothes, allowing you to move much more easily without exposing your skin. You set aside the rest of the day to hunting rabbits. This proves very frustrating and tiring. However, you have a stroke of luck as the day draws to a close, when you manage to ambush a large rabbit that was fleeing from a jackal digging its den. You have toasted seeds and cooked rabbit legs for dinner, and then get to sleep. You awake with 4AP, however you are confronted by a rowdy bunch of giant apes that seem to be having an argument and are edging very close to your tent.

J.K. Stockholme and Arrow Gamer

UUfLzQV.png

J.K. Stockholme: You spend the morning gorging on sweet orange fruit. Your mood is greatly lifted and you feel vitality returning to your body. You shelter from the hot afternoon sun beneath the fruit bush, taking time to make a sturdy lizard-skin belt. This holds your stone tools and leaves you a free hand. The plain seems quiet throughout the day. As night falls, you attempt to snack on fruit seeds you have left baking on hot rocks, but still find them hard and unpalatable. You then sleep fairly comfortably, smoke from the fire keeping insects at bay. You have a vivid dream, seeing yourself as a bird flying over a fast, fertile wetland, full of plants and animals. You feel this lies a short distance to the north.

You awake feeling energised from your day of food and rest. However, birds have taken the last of the fruit from near your campfire. You also notice an abundance of giant grasshoppers that have suddenly appeared. It seems warmer today, and there is a feeling of tension in the air; you see predatory shapes stalking through the mirages on the horizon. You have 4AP, a snakeskin Belt, Stone Spear and Stone Tools.

Arrow Gamer: Your effort goes into searching the area through the possessed bird, and sending the human are dream vision of what you have found. You lose sight of the horses in the process, though you are not sure you would be able to possess such a large and powerful creature.

Ninja Dude

SVXr5EL.png

Good fortune is with you today. The morning hunt on the mountainside is successful, as you return dragging a sizeable goat carcass. It was an old, lame goat and its meat is tough, but filling nonetheless, and you have leftovers which you hide in the cave. In the afternoon you go foraging, and though you are not really hungry, you find a handful of edible roots to take back. The night is spent weaving tall grass from near the cave entrance; it is fiddly work by the light of the fire, and you are on edge as you sense predators being drawn by the smell of toasted goat flesh. You face the dawn with 3AP, well fed and no longer feeling so exposed to the elements, but worn down by continued lack of sleep. A deep rumbling sound is in the air, emanating from the south or west. You have 1x Stone Spear, 1x Bones (goat skull), 1x Goat Skin, 1x Goat Meat, 1x Vegetables (purple carrot), and 1x Linen Blanket.

Thlayi

TvYMe59.png

Swift-footed deer having eluded you yesterday, you awake with the inspiration to make a throwing weapon to tangle the legs of the wary beasts. But it takes you all morning to climb further up the mountain, gather sinew from the remains of giant eagle kills, and make string from this. It will take more time to finish the bolas, but hunger drives you to hunt regardless; again, the prey remains elusive. Night begins to fall and you sense other predators nearby, you sense you have no choice but to retreat. You do however have the fortune to find a rabbit snared in one of your traps on the way back, which you promptly cook and eat. As you settle to sleep, the cries of fearsome beasts echo from the valley below, as they squabble over the carcass of a large highland cow.

You have 3AP, but are still rather hungry, and increasingly chilled from exposure. You have a length of string (sinew) and a rabbit pelt (on its own, it can only make a belt or partial clothing). A bolas will require 1AP to finish.

Eltain

I1b4FUH.png

You take care to climb down the steep slopes into the valley without hurting yourself, and are on alert for danger. By mid-day you are enjoying the shelter of fruit-laden trees, and you eat as much fruit as you can stomach. The lush riverbanks could not be a greater contrast from the desert plateau where you started. You rest reasonably comfortably, but are awoken at dawn as an excited pack of giant hyenas gather at the base of the tree you are in; whether they are interested in you or in the fruit is not clear. You have 4AP and no items.

Lopaz

IgbOYNo.png

You spend your first day making a stone axe and foraging for food. You are unable to sneak up on any squirrels, but you find a few herbs and vegetables to eat, along with some juicy insect grubs hidden in rotten logs. As night falls, you retreat to one of the trees and begin building a rudimentary shelter. You get little rest as you work through the night. At dawn you are tired, but you have 3AP for today. You are aware of a large tiger prowling nearby.

qoou

rgiGp3E.png

You begin the day with prayer to nature. You are left undisturbed by other creatures as you weave a linen blanket during the day, foraging on a few seeds as you go. Giant apes seem curious of you, but keep their distance. As night falls, you settle at the eastern edge of the steaming lake. The warm steam and linen blanket keep the chilling wind at bay during the night. Morning brings some surprises; a noisy flock of strange, pink-coloured birds has now descended upon the lake, an enormous tusked creature stomps nearby, and an even colder wind now blows from the north. It seems that snow and ice have suddenly covered the nearby mountain. You have 3AP, but are feeling hungry.

Now – Day 8 Begins

Three week delay, eek! I am sorry. I have to accept its going to take time for each update now, but I know I can produce them much quicker than this. I'm aware the update may be a bit strange as a result of stop-starting constantly.

Still accepting Region/Place Names for the map... I'm formally adding them when it seems appropriate to do so.

I decided not to use 'character names' in general, as I imagine it would be really confusing with the number of players involved. But if this is a big issue for anyone then I can make an exception or two.

Herobrine giving birth to twins had already been randomificated – I did not acquiesce to player pressure!

NOTE: now operating a lunar cycle, back dated to turn #0. It is an eight-turn cycle: Full, 3/4 Wane, Half Wane, 1/4 Wane, New (invisible), 1/4 Wax, Half Wax, 3/4 Wax. Its effect on magic/spiritual forces may become clear over time. The next turn will take place under a Full Moon.

NOTE: butchering multiple kills in one go (skinning, cutting out meat etc) may count as an AP action. Generally, butchering one carcass will be a free action.

NOTE: sleeping is *not* a free action when you have more than 1AP – you have the choice of skipping sleep to do other things, with the risk of tiredness coming back to bite you.

@Nintz, your spirit has been drawn to Dongtian and you can see this near the start of the update.

@Qoou, your orders were a little over-engineered in particular, sorry I didn't spot this beforehand. You were trying to do a lot for 1AP in the middle. I interpreted it as 'make linen from grass', while opportunistically eating anything edible. You did not have time to roam around and try to befriend animals this time.

@Justo, you have found yourself close to Wolfhaven and can read this near the start of the update.

Incarnation Options

I have three options this turn, not counting Lord of Elve's unborn child. They will go to whoever is A: interested, B: highest in the waiting list.

Herobrine's babies are helpless on their first turn, but can be claimed for the turn after (if they survive):
* Male child: slender build, Animal Lore trait.
* Female child: slender build, Charm trait.

*Also, Milarqui has grown in power and may give birth asexually to a new abomination/beastman, with an animal theme of your choice (ideally some animal from that part of the world). Milarqui does not get a say in this! Milarqui can still abandon beast form and re-incarnate if he wishes.

The waiting list looks like this:
Arrow Gamer (2nd life)
Milarqui (2nd life)
bonefang
Ekolite
DarthNader
Nintz (2nd life)
Lambda_Ignacae
Amesjay
Shadowbound
Lord_Iggy
Golden1Knight
Angst (2nd life)

:salute:

Nice update. I managed to survive thanks to Angst. Sorry you didn't make it...

Great update, not expecting twins though. So many mouths to feed....

Amazing update, Daft. A tiger hmmmm I'll have to do some thinking on how to get around this one. Just a curious is there any chance it could climb up into my tree and eat me or is it bound to the ground?

Edit: Just noticed TerrisH and Tuxedohamm are northwest of me.

I think I'm gonna continue as an abomination. I might actually try to become some sort of spirit for the humans' to talk about, and perhaps even worship. That's how I want to make my first footprint in the world.

Also, I have noticed a detail: NW of my current position, that's where my skull and old axe are. Can I go in that direction and snatch the axe for my use?

@merciary, Herobrine: NE of your position, there are several bones and skin. You can use them for yourselves, I won't be able to.

@North King, Seon, Lord of Elves,

Let us join together, sharing our resources and food according to need. I have much to provide and only ask that you work, with me, towards the survival and growth of Pandaholme. I would like to expand the dwelling and have us all live together for mutual protection. I would also like us to expand the shrine. I would also like us to plant more gardens and tend them. Finally, we should go hunting as a group and bring down something big for us all to feast on and maybe even smoke the food for later days.

Thoughts?

I suggest:
North King (artistic, creative): expand dwelling (Creative!)(1AP), expand shrine/monument (Creative!) (1AP), hunt as a group (1AP), eat cooked meat from hunt (zero AP) sleep in expanded hut by fire (1AP)
Seon (Animal Lore, Builder): expand dwelling (builder!) (1AP), expand shrine/monument (builder!) (1AP), lead hunt as a group (animal lore!)(1AP), eat cooked meat from hunt (zero AP) sleep in expanded hut by fire (1AP)
Lord of Elves (hardy, energetic): cut timber (1AP) for dwelling, cut stone blocks for monument (1AP), eat the cooked meat from Immaculate's gear (zero AP), eat cooked meat from hunt (zero AP), pray to Pawahom, the elder spirits, the Great Pandas, the creators of the forest, for safe birth (1AP), sleep in expanded hut by fire (1AP)

These are my orders:
Immaculate (herbal lore, spiritual): replant 1 garden patch (herbal lore!) (1AP), replant another garden patch (herbal lore!) (1AP), pray to Pawahom, the elder spirits, the Great Pandas, the creators of the forest, for safety of expanded tribe, successful/safe hunt and for fertility amongst the tribe and finally a safe birth (spiritual!) (1AP), hunt as a group (using my spear- leave the pick-ax or ax for others to use if they like) (1AP), eat cooked meat from hunt (zero AP) sleep in expanded hut by fire (1AP)

These are just suggestions and obviously I am working towards my priorities- yours may be very different.

In the future i think if we can each contribute two AP per turn to the village (and expect food, shelter, and mutual protection in return), we can grow and still have time for our own projects. For my 2 AP I’ll tend and harvest the gardens and we can hopefully get enough food to maintain our population each turn. New births may mean we need to plant more plots. Your AP might be spent as befits a builder or creative character- I would like to see the shrine expanded once more but we might also want some better weapons or clothes or a watchtower or other things. This turn we all need to hunt together ‘cause we don’t have any crops to harvest.

@Immaculate, North King, Seon
These arrangements are acceptable and stuff. More long-term we should seek to expand our hut large enough to qualify as some kind of longhouse or whatever, reinforce it against the elements, and prepare a larger network of gardens and farms or whatever, potentially with irrigation from the shore.

Optical
3 AP: Conserve my energy until midday, then attempt to ambush and kill the bear from behind with my spear. Try to get on its back to do this.
1 AP: If I survive, drag the carcass back to camp and cook and eat a little of the meat. Rekindle the fire if necessary.

Great update Daft! :D

@Merciary:
Since we were not expecting twins, I think we should refocus our priorities. For Example:
-Plant more gardens/hunt/fish some more. We are now in dire need of a steady food source. Farming can get us that, plus one of our kids might acquire a Herb-lore trait. Either way, Food is number one priority. Food for at least six people should be acquired soon every update.
-Expand the shelter. We can use the stone bricks you have recovered in addition with some more lumber or stone bricks to expand on our hut. With four of us living in the one dwelling, it might get crowded; especially since I assume Justo may be joining us soon as well.

EDIT:
Also, who wants my babies? :p

@Herobrine

Agreed I'm going to try one more hunt seeing as there is a boar nearby but we should definitely expand the farms. It would probably be best for you to deal with most of the farming seeing as you can't go far anyways.

Actions:
1 AP: Harvest the grown plants
1 AP: Chop down some wood
1 AP: Attempt to hunt the nearby boar
1 AP: Sleep

Non-AP actions:
Eat only if there is enough food to go around, make sure Herobrine and the children have enough food before I eat.
Gather some plant fibers to make string in the future.

^ Same.

Seems fairly reasonable, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend all 4 on the village this particular turn... might want to "expand the workforce" if you know what I mean. :groucho:
