New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Inspiration if you need it. This was an excellent character-based NES in its day.

EDIT: Woah.

Best.
Crosspost.
Ever.

Actually, having players hand/mouse-make their own biased maps would be very cool!

The rescue-team thing reminds me of Milarqui's NEScom and Dreadnought's games. Any specific mechanics?

EDIT: AHA, that was a great one, eh?

Anyway, another name for the Transistors (IMHO better than "transits") might be "Pontifex/Pontifecii" (bridge in latin). Another name for that idea would be "Through Transition"

Yes you should. Definitely. Although I'm still very interested in the search team idea.

As for the maps:
Maybe. I certainly like how it could work for In Transit/the Search-and-Rescue game.
Core, not so much. The only reason there ISN'T a map of Core is because I'm a terrible artist, very picky about the city's layout, and think Core would look best as a hand-drawn map.

Anyways, as for the rescue team mechanics, I'm thinking of having "clues" scattered around the world, possibly by taking a real-world location and... shall we say "embellishing" it a bit? The Adirondacks of New York had been my first though. Beyond that, there would be a concept of radio range, for keeping in contact with players IC. No hard mechanics have been developed yet, since I wanted to see what people were most interested in.

EDIT:
Alright, so I don't chew up more posts:
In Transit would take a set of, oh, 30ish established worlds. Some would be uninhabited, some would be small research outposts or retreats. One would be Earth as we know, and possibly one parallel world where society had developed separately, though IDK if I want to get into that quite yet. There would be information on the society, geography, and conflicts that exist in each world and in between worlds (a lot of resource/elitism/control conflicts regarding the Transits), and players would begin to operate much as Core, free to develop the story as they saw fit.

Should I take this as a vote to reboot Core?

I like both ideas. I'd play either.

If you need a hand-drawn map for Core, I can do one.

The map I was drawing was great.
You're just too picky about the city. :(

To be fair, you never asked me anything about the city before you started, and I hadn't even realized you were doing that until you showed it to me.

Granted, I am very picky about the city. If anybody's willing to do it, though, that would be incredibly awesome of them, and I'd give all of the details I could.

As for which decision to take, Core has the most work done behind it, since I have both the original and the work I'd already done for a potential reboot established.

Possibilities for consideration:
The original history would be changed a bit, so the first one would be rendered non-canon by the changes.
That being said, would players like to be in the same time period, or possibly earlier in the city's history, when there are resource wars going on over the last few remnants of "modern" technology?

@Arrow Gamer: I would definately be up for another character based NES.

@CivOasis: When you say Alternate Worlds, do you mean Alternate Universes ala Fringe? Because that would be really cool. :)

Slighty earlier. More action than simple dispair/gotta get outta here/gang cold wars.

I had an interesting tangent which might link to the gang wars, but I think I made my character too dependent on you/others. So my next one will be more independent.

I'm not too familiar with Fringe, but, yes, alternate universes. The idea came to me originally after I read The Long Earth, though I've put a slightly different spin on it.

Also, something I want to toy with:
I personally felt that Core ran much better when I just took a call-and-response approach to RP, rather than forcing updates. As a result, I'd like to toss the idea of formal updates entirely, and instead maintain a sort of progressive synopsis/timeline, for new players to follow and current ones to refer to. Does this seem like a good idea?

I believe I posted this before, but:
Spoiler :

Generation 1 - 35 Years
- Work on Core begins (0)
- Core completed (18)
- Core closed off (35)

Generation 2 - 28 Years (35-63 Years)
- First generation to live entirely within Core

Generation 3 - 24 Years (63-87 Years)

Generation 4 - 23 Years (87-110 Years)
- Last generation with widespread electricity (96)

Generation 5 - 25 Years (110-135 Years)
- Oldest person in Core born (130)

Generation 6 - 22 Years (135-157 Years)
- Alessandri born (140)
- Last generation with modern medical technology (143)

- Possible alternate game date (142/143)

Generation 7 - 23 Years (157-180 Years)

Generation 8 - 22 Years (180-202 Years)

Generation 9 - 6 Years (202-208 Years)

- Contemporary with the original game (208)

I still think that "Formally" updating every week or so is best. Not particularly for responding to various players, but moreso developing a background plot independently (a scene where a mafioso sends some thugs after a player's family, for example), building tension, or summarizing stuff.

Also, especially for more rapid-fire times, you might want to help format them into a conversation. So you will have a start post link, then a quote for a formatted conversation/RP, then an endpost link. I did that before, so you could request various players to pick someone to organize their RP for summary/organization. I can do it.

That'd work.
Also, could any of the original players give their opinions on whether or not a map would be preferable, and anything they might have disliked?

I disliked the confusion of intents, which is partially fixed with the wiki.

I know this is about RP, but maybe we should add OOC "Intent Sheets" telling you how we see different things like the Crimson Hand and other elements fit into the world?

AS for a map, I would like it to remain vague, with only places of interest marked to maintain continuity. I remember the Orphanage is west of Granny's house, but I walked "into the sunset" or west home. :p

Alright, that works.

And I like the idea of the "intents" sheet, it would resolve clarification issues, and prevent a few events that would pose contradictory.

And the wiki would DEFINITELY be expanded this time around, even if only so that I got more information out about the city.

Allright, gauging interest in something I have in mind.

A NES situated in a Merovingian/Carolingian styled kingdom.
The king has decided that a new position at court is to be created, that of Lord Mayor. The position promises much power, wealth etc so naturally the nobles are excited and all want to be appointed.

The king will have decided to have a certain amount of time pass to see which nobleman should receive the honour of becoming the first Lord Mayor. During this periode the players will strive to become the most influential man with the king.

There will be a fixed amount of total influence in order for players to actively work against each other.

Influence, as far as I have decided on this will come from 4/5 apects:
Culture/religion, Gefolgschaft/retinue, Wealth, administrative abilities, gifts

Gifts give temporial influence, the other have a more lasting effect.
The other aspects produce either negative or positive influence Admiration, fear, jealousy, respect and will also effect eachother. high culture has a negative influence on you gefolgshaft while high wealth has a positive influence.

It is very much in development and I wont have time in the near future to get this up. However since I expect it to be very stat-heavy (behind the scenes ;)) I want to get a basic idea of the interest before going all in. I'm aiming on getting the development done late january, early februari.

Last point; this will probably have a fixed set of turns for two reasons. I want to know if I'm up for running a NES and secondly, it will be the first in a series :)

I'd be up for it. (As you can probably tell, though, I'm slightly trigger-happy when it comes to joining interesting NESes. :p)

Edit: @CivO: Pretty much the same as Terrance on the map. Maybe mark main streets as they're a nice reference point.
