Yes, players control the entire dynasty, which includes every member of the family. So if you have a son who is a general and a father who is a senior senator and a mother who does little more than manage the businesses your orders would be war orders (if war was being engaged), decisions on legislation, and actions you would like to take for the business.
This is not Nessos and the more I look at it the fewer similarities I see- the only thing I can really say is similar is the fact that players will get to participate in a senate, but beyond that everything is rather different.
Good day to the NESing community! It's been quite a while since the last time I checked in, some of you might still remember me.. right now I'm feeling like I would like to mod a NES again. Not play though, I've had my fair share of playing. But lately, as I've been studying the history of different religions, I've come to think how interresting it would be to make NES where religions (or spiritualism in general) would play a bigger role than it normally did back when I was active here.
I was thinking a title along the lines of "Age of Alchemists Nes". Pretty catchy ain't it not!
Do you think you people might be interrested in such a NES? It will take time before I'd start one, though, I haven't really planned it that much.. but I really feel like I'd like to give it a shot!
I've been thinking and re-thinking my schemes for a sci-fi NES, and I can't quite come to a conclusion on how to operate it. I'm leaning more towards story-driven and saying duck-all to stats, as I feel like the immersing quality of a story-driven NES will drive it more strongly than keeping track of a heap of numbers and die rolls. I'm going to work out a rough system using maybe a few rough/vague stats here and there, but mostly being about the content the players bring to the table. Yeah, anyway, if anyone is still interested, let me know. If I can even get a handful of players, I'll start a write-up in a few days.
I've tinkered with some template ideas, and I've come up with the following:
Spoiler:
RACE NAME: [be creative, at least a little bit]
APPEARANCE: [describe your race in as much detail as you please, but avoid cliches and "corny" sci-fi stereotypes; such things will be penalized by my mysterious and unforgiving whims]
CIVILIZATION NAME: [again, be at least a tad creative]
CULTURE: [give me a rough description of their culture(s), including values, heritage, religion, etc. and feel free to add as much detail as you see fit]
GOVERNMENT: [describe the government in as little or as much detail as you like, though the more detail you provide, the more I'm going to be able to do with it (for good or ill!)]
DOMESTIC POLICY: [how does the government/society treat its own people? be as descriptive as you like]
XENOPOLICY: [describe how the government/society reacts to/treat alien species, whether dealing with them diplomatically, economically, militarily, culturally, subjugatively, etc. in as much detail as you wish]
PERSONAL NAMES: [anything you can drum up to help me out would be lovely]
PLANET NAMES: [anything you can drum up to help me out would be lovely]
STAR NAMES: [anything you can drum up to help me out would be lovely]
SHIP NAMES: [anything you can drum up to help me out would be lovely]
I'm trying to keep it as basic and open-ended as possible, so that people can describe whatever they wish for these generic categories. I'm just worried it might be too generic, or too incomplete, etc.
If anyone has any suggestions for additions/changes/removals, I'd like the help. Only one way to get experienced with this sort of thing, but a little coaching never hurts!
I would like to have somebody (not me I allready messed up my modern NES) that if somebody would creat a NES that you started in 10,00 BC and made it all the way up to 2000AD! Like a really long fresh start NES.
Or kinda sorta what we did with Return to Our Roots NES 2, though different times, different things. Personally I like the way Daft did his better than the way I did mine.

- Also, would this include psionic abilities btw? I prefer "No, but there is an aspect of ascension towards a higher level of existance that eventually becomes more available as the civilization develops".
Well, I've got a thread up now (SLYNES), so go ahead, take a gander, and get your race written up! I had considered psionics, but figured it'd be too vague to employ in a low-stat system, at least without a lot of forethought. Maybe if your race gets powerful enough, it'll be an option
I'm curious if anyone has tried to run a NES with an extreme early starting point. Instead of having players start with culture groups in a cradle region, have players represent individual "tribes." I've certainly not read through every attempted NES to see if anyone has attempted it, but I thought maybe someone would have memory of trying it.
I know Abaddon ran a tribal game on islands, but I got the impression that the goal was never to really advance very far beyond the few islands. (Let me know if I misunderstood its goal).
The idea would be around a series of NESes that start with a small area with a few tribes. The player's goal would be to just survive and get to the point that the culture groups could be formed. Run a couple semi-short games to create the culture groups from actual game players. Then start a cradle NES with these culture groups.
However, just a quick glance suggests a macro handling of tribes in general was used there. I'm thinking on a smaller scale. I'm tribe A your tribe B from over the mountain. Right now I've run into one of your hunters and traded some fruit for a piece of meat. A number of updates from now, we're so closely intertwined that we have become almost one tribe with 2 villages. In the upcoming NES afterwards, our ancestors formed the ABean culture group that the nations of BAland and ABland eventually formed.
