New NESes, ideas, development, etc

lord_joakim has always been one of the more pleasant people to see talking in this forum in my opinion.

Ooooh Corporation NES. That could be fun.

Indeed. A CorpNES would be great, and then you could start to create your own holding to expand into other fields.

Example: you start with a chemical factory, and then you expand into the explosives market and then weaponry and construction of industrial machinery.

Are there any examples of older Corporate NESes? I need examples or something to look at, because I don't know how that would work. Or really, somebody else could take it and run with it.

Nearest thing I've ever seen is those NESes where you played a videogame programming company, or EQ's TWTUD2. You'll probably have to invent your own ruleset.

If you make a good one, I'd join. You'd also have to create a couple of NPC industries so that people could expand their holdings and that.

I'm not confident in my ability to do anything like that. I'll just stick it in the file of 'Things to do when I'm competent one day.'

By all means, please go for it. I'd like to play as an evil railroad company or a tobacco conglomerate.

Granted, joakim's are a bit more interesting and workable, though some of them seem very setting specific (Lawful - Evil, Divine - Demonic, etc.). The Society thing in particular is one of the cases where this form would probably be very justified, since I can think of quite a few cases where it can be important for individuals at least. Kudos for having non-standard number of elements, too!

I'd still give Daft quite some honor for the work, I just threw it together more or less randomly whilst inspired by him. I reconsidered on the lawful vs evil thing (Since in fantasy terms, the basic difference between good and evil is the ideology conflict in sacrifice of the many for the few vs. sacrifice of the few for the many - the latter being "good"), but on the Divine-Demonic, it really depends on whether deities are present or not, but I still do understand your argument.

And the reason why I only included those elements is that air is somewhat tied to water in fantasy, and as such, is also the element with the least persona - and now it had to be a triangle, so I cut out the air for it to fit. :) But thanks a lot for the kudos.

BULLSUNNI. You're just too lazy to learn how to use the better tools when they're afforded to you. MS Paint SUCKS, and if you think you can't do what MS Paint does with a better tool, you are a MORON with a capital O (because mOrons can't write properly; I have to put this note in just in case, hey, you're a moron).

I am being exceptionally frank and mean-spirited today, so just we're clear I don't like you lord_joakim. Nothing personal, it's just that your words have distilled you into what is essentially something full of crap, like that JELEEN fellow.

I don't see that post as being very constructive, but I want to express that I'm sad to know you dislike me this much, as I don't see exactly what I've done to have you mud me this way. Nevertheless, I'll continually attemp to keep my posts pleasant. I hope you're happy to know that I still do like you and that I think you post quite amusing and smart things once in a while.

I won't say that this is one of those times, and fyi, you are being personal. ;)

Anyways, to keep this post from cluttering completely; I understand your point about GIMP's betterness than Paint, but the thing is, Paint is easy to use and can make gritty, cartoon-ish maps without modification. Problem with GIMP remains that it's a difficult program to draw maps with in the current NES style. And that's why I asked Daft abuot his program, as it seems like more of a Paint with layers than a primitive GIMP, and that's pretty much what I want to play around with. :)

EDIT: THanks to other people for telling me I was pleasant - made me smile xD

Someone needs to take a ride on the chill train. We DO try to check the nerdrage at the door, fc. :mischief: And FWIW, saying "nothing personal" followed by an extremely personal comment is, well, lacking decorum to say the least.

I love you fc, have my babies.

Yo, me and the chicken are facebook friends, so in this case I'm just trying to remind everyone of common courtesy. Not insulting each other personally is how we keep the mods from swooping in and ending our little autonomous enclave situation.

If we always only did things that would never attract flies to the meat mods to posts, there would be no need to keep mods away thus making it pointless to want to keep them away in the first place.

Even if there weren't any mods, making blatant personal attacks to someone's face while thinly disguising it with "nothing personal" is generally not cool, no matter what you think of that person.

Are there people on this forum that I think are paint-huffing autistic morons? Sure. Do I say that to their face? Not...directly. :p

OK, I'm gonna stop spamming up this thread now with my righteous fury.

Well, I guess that I can do something.

Ideas:

Each turn would last 3 months, starting in the year 1950. (I guess this would be a good point to start)

Stats:
Name of Corporation/Player
CEO: Just a name for the stories.
Subsidiary Companies: (If you have these, they will act as different arms of the same body (the Corp), helping each other. For example, a Corporation could have 4 different SCs: one dedicated to extracting iron from mines; a second one dedicated to the construction of trains and railways, using the iron the 1st company extracts; a third one dedicated to the deployment of railroads, and a fourth for the transportation of people in those trains the 2nd company build along the railways the 2nd company made and the 3rd deployed)
Gross Income / Net Income: (GI is the money the enterprise earns between sales and deals, while NI is the GI minus the money spent on taxes)
Account: (What Treasury is on other places, basically what you have on the bank: you may be able to ask for a loan if you find yourself short on money, but remember that you have to give it back with interests)
Products: (You can offer anything you think the market may buy, but be careful, for at some time you might get some backslash if the tastes of the public change or aren't suited to what you want to give them)
Properties: (You start with 1 factory and 1 small office block, but you may expand by buying more factories, bigger offices, laboratories or even lands in which you can do whatever you want. This includes the properties of all subsidiary companies in the Corporation (you will require at least 1 factory and 1 office block per company, although factory may be changed to whatever the company needs))
Workers: A/B/C/D (There will be 4 kinds of workers: normal workers (A), specialized workers (B), executives (C) and investigators (D). Each of them has a different salary (but, for simplification, all workers of a kind will have the same salary) which will detract to your GI, but each guy can do one thing: normal workers fabricate the products at a normal rate and can be used to build new factories on land; specialized workers fabricate products at a higher rate and may be used to do special things; executives can be used to lead factories, do paperwork and close deals; and investigators may be used to ascertain whether the quality of the products you buy/sell is good enough as well as starting special projects that may help you to improve your products or obtain things that may help you in your task. If there is more than one company in the Corporation, there will be different sets of numbers)
Workers' Ability: A/B/C/D (Basically, the higher the numbers, the higher the salary and the better things they make. Like with the previous stat, the more companies your Corp has, the more sets of numbers it'll have)
Projects: (if you are, for example, trying to find a way to make the cigarrettes you sell more healthier for the human body, this is where you will know how much it costs and how much time it'll take)
Deals: (tells you if you have a deal with other corporations (or the State) in order to buy or sell things to them: a corporation that dabbles in iron mining could sell the iron it sells to a corporation that makes railways; at the start, you will need to find buyers for your products and sellers for the raw materials you need until you can do those things with a company of your own)
Popularity: (the more popular you are, the more products are bought)

Any other ideas?

Maybe have longterm projects? (like Advertizement: say, 100 dollars per turn for 5 turns to get 10 turns of advertizing from company b.) And Stock? (Easy, take total value of the company, divide it by stocks in the market, times it by 10 for slow, 15 for average and 20 for great companies, and grow it per turn + extra for histeria) Stock can be used to raise money. (sell 100000 stock at $5 ea!)

Advertising would probably be handled by Executives. The Stock idea is a good one.

Anybody else interested in joining and/or giving me more ideas?

I remember when I was going to start a business NES. I had a lot planned but the amount of math I had to do for just one player made my brain spasm.

There could be some government done by the mod, and there would be regulations and taxing and what not.
