New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Since I don't see a link here, I shall make the link for kkmo's pre NES thread click here

Northen, does upgrading the buildings cost the same as the original building or will that scale up?

I assume Scale up. Building Cost*level -
To build and upgrade level 1 building:
1 gold to build
1 gold to get onto level 2
2 gold to get onto level 3

2 gold to build
2 gold to get onto level 2
4 gold to get onto level 3

1 gold to build
2 gold to get onto second level
4 gold to get onto third level

2 gold to build
4 gold to get onto second level
6 gold to get onto third level

I might just check it out kkmo :)

I've decided to launch a NES as well.

The Pre-thread can be found here.

I would love to see some new players so please come check it out. I am not a horrible moderator- really...

I'm feeling a bit bad about Shattered Space now. I feel that between Lord_Iggy and Immaculate's NES (which are already designed and ready to go/going well now), there are enough space sci-fi NESes. If we stretch that player base too thin, it may result in poor posting or lack of time. I hope I'm making sense here. My NES won't even be ready to begin until around March 2011, as I've said, but I might extend that time a bit longer so that it seems a little bit more developed. I don't want to start something that is so half-done. That is why I am not rushing it. I like what everyone has written thus far, though, and I think the project has a good "spine" so to speak. I hope we can develop it more together as time passes (that's what the pre-NES thread is for).

in my opinion, people will play in more then one nes at a time- please don't worry about others doing Space NESes.... if i knew you were gonna think that, i would have checked with you first before running my NES>

Immaculate: No, that is not necessary. It is totally fine! I am just trying to weigh in on whether or not people desire this many around. I agree with Adrogans that they are all different, and I hope what you say is true (that people will play in several at one time), and that it is no problem.

Okay cool... i didn't want to step on your toes.

Well, I'm working on an NES. A relatively simple one thus far.

It's one set in I was thinking 2150, but with modern technology. Purely to reason as to why the nations I have are so strange. But I'm wondering what could have happened (short of nuclear war) that would have stalled humanity for 150ish years. The backstory needs to exist, but it doesn't need to be detailed. I want the players to fill it out really. I want them to make they're nation their own.

And did I mention the rules would be fairly easy? SMWT2 and SMWT3 were notorious for difficult rulesets, which is part of the reason I lost interest. I've already set up a reasonable ruleset, and have a map made, which I'd like to follow. So at this point, I just need a reason for the world to technologically stall for 150 years, without massive destruction to the environment.

cultural distrust of technology? perhaps religious-based...?

Have technology backfire somehow...a nanotech virus, rouge AI, a designed mutating bacteria.

No, Immaculate: rather, I was worried that I might be stretching players too thin (and I don't even have a ruleset made up yet). The March 2011 start date is looking promising, though.

I wanted to mention here, that a lot of Shattered Space will actually revolve around aspects of Japanese mythology (in space). I haven't made that clear yet because I wanted systems to be made without that information in people's minds. So there will be some elements of Japanese mythology that will be present in our galaxy. If this seems way too ridiculous to anyone, speak up now before you get really deep into it. ;)

Actually, Hindu mythology will also be a little bit present (in terms of meditation and telepathy). Devans were originally Hindu sages. And Japanese mythology will be present in creatures. Many of the creatures or monsters found in Japanese mythology are essentially old, wise beings that were able to transport themselves away from Earth with the help from Devans long ago, and they have since inhabited several worlds across the galaxy (explaining strange happenings in many different habitable areas). In this sense, and in many others, Shattered Space is a Fantasy NES of sorts. I hope this tidbit of information hasn't turned anyone off from the idea. Since a lot of those bakemono or "yokai" as they are called, have vague descriptions, there will be some leeway in describing them for our sakes. They have been somewhat unnoticeable though for many reasons, mostly because of the enslavement of the Devans. As the Devans are no longer enslaved, and will be "resurfacing" in our galaxy, their telepathic energies will bring those creatures back into the forefront of some worlds, causing havoc and creating sticky situations for many different governments and characters. Basically, those creatures had been in stasis; a form of hibernation.

And if anyone else thought of Samurai Jack while reading this, I apologize. That isn't intentional, but rather, after writing the above paragraphs I thought of one of my most beloved television shows.

I was thinking a Pandemic of sorts.. kills enough people that society gets all topsy-turvy. After about 200 years of civil wars, revolts.. general anarchy, society pieces itself together, that by the point the NES starts, it's essentially picking up where everything left off. Only with different nations, new cultures, ideas. etc..

Like I said.. the backstory can be iffy. I just want a fun NES, and I find the stricter ones like SMW get a tad boring after awhile. In this one, if you want to take over a nation, rename it, make it communist, and make up a leader when you start, I say go for it.

What about giant enemy crabs?

Dohoho!

And here I was thinking my system was out of place!

As for Japanese mythological creatures.. Will it feature the Tsuchinoko? :)

While Japanese mythology is present in the appearance of the creatures, the names of them will largely depend on the systems culture. However, the Japanese names will be used mostly by telepaths/mystics.

Will they have weak spots we can attack for massive damage?
