NEW YORK - The Latest on the aftermath of Jeffrey Epstein’s death (all times local):

Lawyers for financier Jeffrey Epstein say they’re dissatisfied with the medical examiner’s conclusions and plan to view prison videos themselves from a facility operating under “medieval conditions.”

Three lawyers issued a joint statement after a medical examiner announced Friday that an autopsy and other evidence confirms the 66-year-old registered sex offender hanged himself.

Epstein was declared dead after he was found in his cell Aug. 10 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, adjacent to Manhattan’s courthouses.

Attorneys Martin Weinberg, Reid Weingarten and Michael Miller said in a statement that it is “indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocols” at the federal lockup.

They say they’ll conduct their own probe and get court help, if necessary, to see “pivotal videos.”

They say they’re most interested in videos of areas around his cell.

At least one camera in the hallway outside the cell where authorities say registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein hanged himself earlier this month had footage that is unusable, although other, clearer footage was captured in the area, according to three people briefed on the evidence gathered earlier this month.

Hopefully the camera that did work in that hallway was able to monitor all approaches to the jail cell.

But Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor, told Berman that Epstein’s death was already the subject of “an ongoing and active grand jury investigation.”

“It is not the purview, respectfully, of the court to conduct an investigation into uncharged matters,” Comey said.

The focus of the hearing, she added, should be to allow Epstein’s accusers to be heard “and to bring this case to a close.”

However, Epstein’s lawyers argued that there was legal precedent for the court to investigate Epstein’s death.

And some of the victims’ lawyers also suggested that a court-led investigation might be appropriate.

“If there is jurisdiction ... it would increase the confidence” to have the court “oversee the investigation,” said Gloria Allred, the high-profile attorney who introduced new alleged victims of Epstein at the hearing.

I'm not seeing the corruption here. Barr isn't using tax dollars to pay for it, and regardless of what you think about Trump, his hotels are pretty nice so it makes sense that he would want to have his party there since he can afford it.

There's also no conflict of interest here since any action he takes either for or against the president has no impact on that contract and vice versa.

Like the Saudis dropping large sums of cash on Trumps hotels rooms, its perfectly legal of course but everyone can see it for what it is.

The Irony is that this was an election campaign by Republicans that donations to the Clinton foundation was to buy / curry favor with Hillary.

Well, well, a camera outside Epstein's jail cell malfunctioned.

Two cameras. The guards forgot to check and the cameras just happened to malfunction, all on the same night that the guy who was on all the front pages because of the impending trial and the possible revelations about important criminals was suicided. The guy about whom lawyers, journalists and accusers said they feared might be assassinated to silence him. Who had already been attacked the previous week.

It's not established if he was actually previously attacked or he injured himself.

The inmate who heard him struggling, didn't see another person in the hallway to enter/exit Epstein's cell?

Malfunctioning cameras are actually a pretty common thing. For example, part of my job now is to do daily (yes daily) camera audits for all of our sites all over the world and everyday we have at least two or three cameras per site that aren't working for one reason or another.

So I don't see it as suspicious at all that the camera malfunctioned.
