NOTW XXXIX: Impending Retribution Game Thread

Wow, this is a crosspostfest

Captain, was there anything of use in yesterday's crate?

Yes. Yesterday's crate had a power drill. I believe I know who best to give it to, but if anyone has a strong desire, or reason, to want it, please let me know.

Methos, can you tell us anything else about this transmission regarding the diplomat?

Nope. What you all saw, is what I saw. Looks like the party caused it.

(delayed reaction) Wait, what? Execute the non-talkative people?

Did you learn nothing from executing Diamondeye? We're going to just execute people who haven't spoken much? No brig? No other reasoning needed?

That will not only add a whole lot to the discussion (people voting for people who don't react, generating no responses, leading to stagnant day phases) but will also stop all pressure on the majority of the scumholes, who are likely to avoid such suspicion merely by talking at the same level they were. You're making it extraordinarily easy for the guilty parties to avoid death and imprisonment while simultaneously killing the discussion, if you follow that course of action.

So, all the guilty creeps have to do is keep talking and they're guaranteed to live for several more days, while we screw around with the less helpful members of our team? Must we be so predictable? Can't we put pressure on people who might actually react to our pressure?

If you insist on using the vote on the sacks of potatoes, use the brig, do not execute.

The only way the traitors get away with keeping quiet is if they do so this entire voyage, without ever being executed for such. Let's make that voyage as long and nail-biting as possible for them. I doubt very much that is the strategy they've chosen.

Remember, those in the brig can be checked out, and even if we couldn't do that, their very presence in the brig adds information, adds pressure, and adds time.

I'm as surprised as anyone about Diamondeye, however it would have been great if it hadn't taken him three days, till the last minute before the execution, to reveal something like that Inventory Sheet. I'll vote it to me, as much as anyone I would like to know if it has information on repair items and keys that we're looking for, and because it's the sort of thing that really needs to be kept away from rogue hands.

I have to agree it wasn't the most opportune time for that party, but maybe it wasn't the worst, that diplomatic situation is bad news though.

I don't know if I should be saying this, it's not my own intel but something I've heard from others anyway, but we probably do need to have this publicly known so the crew isn't panicky or wrong. It keeps on being brought up and no one else has addressed this, so regarding this problem:

Also did you remember someone telling you to fix our defenses? oh yes thats right, that would have been me.

There are specific items needed to repair systems like the Aegis and Sonar. Either really, really incompetent crewmen have these items and have not told the Captain or anyone who can get the repairs done, or they are already in traitorous hands, so it won't be that easy.

Oh, well that enlighting. First time I have hear about it though.
Do we know what the parts are?

Askthepizzaguy, the reason I think people were more trigger happy yesterday than normal was that we knew putting someone in the brig tonight wasn't going to do us any good because of the party. That and many of us genuinely thought Diamondeye was going to be a rogue or saboteur. The party had good intentions, but horrible timing.

Some shocking sequence of events right there...

Am I the only one thinking that the diplomatic... "tension" is caused by the death of DE ? Takhisis' mention of it seemed quite off the mark to me, but maybe that's just me.

In light of the events I see a bright future for ATPG, this young man is clearly very bright and should be promoted. Officer material, for sure. I know, it's not up to vote, but something to be considered nonetheless.

Speaking of voting : an item again... I doubt the inventory sheet will be useful, as my understanding of it is that it recorded the late DE's scans. Again, I may have misheard(read), but that's what I inferred when its owner talked about it.

My last thought : Is Seon of the hook, or did I miss something ?

EDIT (and OOC) : For some reason I can't see spoilers. Is it just me, again ?

Well, Diamondeye coming up as innocent does surprise me. The way he approached things, just seemed originally like perhaps he was a rogue, who backed the Saboteurs, because he felt they could help him out. I also thought, when going over everything that's happened in the past 16 hours, that Diamondeye wanted Methos to be Captain, in order to be able to become a rogue. But the results of course, proved all those who bandwagoned Diamondeye to be wrong.

The person whom I think needs to come out, and start talking most is Duke Blackstone. He's admitted to promoting TheForestAuto, on someone else's request, but is withholding this information. So, give us the name of the person who made the request Duke Blackstone, or prepare to be placed in front of the firing squad.

Another issue which I wish to address is that of my current rank. I am the Chief Warrant Officer, and in charge of Engineering. Can people who are capable of repairs please contact me, I cannot use my ability, because I have no such skills, so perhaps for the better of the ship as a whole, we should provide someone else with my rank.

And finally, I assume the inventory sheet will allow people to check what items a certain person has each night. I have no objections for letting Earthling hold this power.

Let’s look at this objectively. Apparently you have a powerful weapon. A fact that was made very public by someone who was proven innocent.

Weapons are made for one thing: killing people. We happen to have a problem on this ship of people killing other people. It would be foolhardy to not inquire about your weapon given our current situation.

Communicating about this weapon to allay some of the quite understandable fears about it would be a good thing. Otherwise I feel quite justified in insisting you spend some time in the brig.

You're only voting me because you know I have an item. I could give you make model and serial number but that won't tell you anything. This is the military, I doubt I'm the only one who has one.

I'd like to know who told Duke Blackistone to promote TFA, but he likely a bad target to send to the brig. Since he was busy promoting TFA that evening it is highly unlikely he had time to set any explosives or attack anyone.

Very well Rhawn. My concerns have been somewhat allayed.

I agree with you and robbiecon and would like to know who gave Duke Blackstone his information regarding TFA. It is somewhat strange that he is protecting this individual given what we know about TFA. It is also possible that he promoted him and performed another action in the same night, so he may well have had time to perform some other nefarious actions.

(OOC: From the rules: “You may do both your personal ability and rank ability during the same night phase.”)

"So why aren't we throwing sprig in the brig?"

I haven't done anything positive yet, merely tried to avoid a negative and wished to not repeat that same negative. However, I appreciate the compliment, sir.

If my advice goes heeded, that's good enough for me.

That was terrible. :(

A couple points I would like to make:

1. I seriously doubt Duke Blackstone is anything but innocent
2. I don't want to execute him, but Autolycus has some explaining to do in private. He and possible a few others know what I'm talking about.

I would like to hear more about the case against Autolycus. He's already triggered my bovine feces detector through his posts which reek of fakery.

NEIN! My sick bay! My BEAUTIFUL SICK BAY! There's vater in it now! It's going to start to SMELL if it reaches the cadavers! UGH!

That was one of the worst things imaginable. First, DE was innocent, which was something I wasn't expecting. Second, the party not only halted all repairs, but its gained us another problem. Tell me, exactly why did you throw this party? Its caused more problems then it did help.

Indeed. I doubt the saboteurs could have foreseen the diplomatic problems, but they would surely have known about the planted explosives, and that they would go off despite the party. I think that puts landlubber and God Emperor back on the suspect list.

All repair people please contact me with your plans for tonight and in particular whether you have access to any of the damaged secure areas. We can't afford wasted effort under the circumstances. I expect everyone with a repair ability to be using it tonight. No excuses.
