Pretty much how I feel. Its been long established that most of the "family values" howlers are base hypocrites. Sad, but not surprising.

The funny thing to me was that the thread title, being underlined, the "g" in shag has its tail cut off so I read it as "shaq" and I wondered WTH Newt was doing w/ Shaquille O'Neal.

Because they're not common people, just like republicans do not have some higher moral authority

I love the argument that "everyone makes mistakes" or that we "shouldn't expect exceptional behavior" from politicians.

Well, let's see, let's go down the list: I don't gamble or drink, I've never sexually harrassed someone, I have yet to obstruct justice or provide false information to a federal prosecutor, I've never taken a bribe, I'm not addicted to prescription drugs, I've never cheated on a girlfriend...

Oh, and I haven't solicited sex from underage boys while sitting at my computer in boxer shorts.

Then funny thing is that Newt actually revived this story by talking to Dobson. It wasn't accidental - it is a calculated moved by Gingrich to get the social conservatives to look past his indiscretions because he has confessed them. Better to get this out of the way in March 2007 than later on down the line.

I don't see many social conservatives nuanced enough to think that breaking an oath to your wife and God is somehow less bad than breaking an oath to a Judge.
