PAX Conference analysis thread

Thanks.:)

If there is a new militaristic CS it probably means an old militaristic CS has been turned into a full civ.
Militaristic CS I remember:

Almaty
Budapest
Belgrade
Hanoi
Sidon
Valletta

If you correctly remember that Sofia is militaristic and I correctly remember all militaristic CS (although I've probably forgotten one or two) than I think we'll probably see Hungary or Serbia.

I would say Vietnam for some odd reason. It fits the time period they are dealing with.
Although, Serbia would be nice too. Maybe Phoenicia will be added due to the new trade routes.

Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam? Possible, but I doubt we get both Indonesia and Vietnam, so I'm still hoping Indonesia

Although it could be:

Vietnam
Brazil
Portugal
Assyria
Poland
Indonesia
Zulu
Kongo
Native American

I am wondering. Polish UB has: +1:c5gold: +15xp for mounted units more than G+K regular stable. This building looks for me too powerful, unless normal stable would got +1:c5gold:, which IMHO makes perfect sense after removing :c5gold: from river tiles.

So a quick overview again:

1. Poland
2. Assyria
3. Brazil
4 Portugal (all but confirmed with Brazil)

I won't include the Zulu, because as we saw with the Pueblo, a more deserving civ could still be considered over another civ with more tradition that's been in previous civ games.

Just saying... prepare to be surprised about the 3 African Civs...

By the way, they uploaded Assyria's icon on 2K's Twitter.

Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam?

I really hope not. A lot of overseas Vietnamese would be offended (and I mean really offended - as in like go protest in the streets offended), and given how the devs were very respectful to the Pueblo, I would think if they were considering Vietnam they wouldn't want to put Uncle Ho in.

Vietnam's got a long, long history of fighting big states (mostly China), and it'd be nice to see that in. If they are adding Vietnam in, that is.

Did you forgot Siam? Pretty sure they aren't going to add a other land from that region

Minh has 0% chance of getting in.

Well given their love of adding women for leaders, the Trung sisters would be an awesome choice and a fascinating LH screen if they interact. I still think they should have had Theodora influencing Justinian as the Byzantine LH, so I have no problem with 2 Leaders.

We're speculating that VIetnam might be in because Sofia replaced another militaristic city-state, and out of the current militaristic city-states, Hungary, Serbia, and Vietnam would make the most plausible civs.

If the devs are adding a civ from SE Asia, I'd wager Indonesia's most likely, followed by Vietnam due to its Cold War politics and the fact that it is unique out of all SE Asian cultures for being primarily chinese-influenced.

I'd love that too. A female Asian leader (leaders?) that actually deserve to be in.

They won't allow Pope in the game. They were very specific about that. They said nothing of their stance on the pueblo as a civ themselves.

Could be instead of the pueblo we get the Anasazi, with an anasazi leader.

From recollection, 'Anasazi' is considered an offensive term to Pueblo Native Americans (not altogether surprisingly, since it's a Navajo word that translates as "ancient enemy" according to Wikipedia) - if they're not going to allow Pope because of native objections, they aren't going to allow the Anasazi. It's also unlikely there are any known Anasazi leaders.

Seems like Vietnam would be likely.. I could definitely see Hungary, but I believe they would love to add a female leader in this expansion, because they will not choose one for Portugal or a Native civ (and the zulu is obviously Shaka if they are in).

The Trung Sisters for a Vietnam Civ (esp given the discussion about Cold war...) would be ideal to fit a region that fans want, female leader(s), replaces a militaristic city state for Sofia.

I just hope this means Majaphit still are added.

1. Vietnam
2. Zulu
3. Kongo
4. Majaphit
5. A Native Civ (Sioux or Cherokee.. maybe Comanche who knows)

If you can do Austria and Germany you can do Vietnam and Siam, culturally far more distinct.

Indeed. The Khmer might be too close to Siam culturally and geographically to be included as some have argued, but Vietnam is really the oddball SE Asian civ for being Chinese-influeced rather than Indian-influenced.

I can't believe it - I've convinced myself there's actually a decent chance Vietnam might make it. Granted it is a tad of a stretch, but it would make absolute sense.

Why keep insisting on a North American Native civ for God's sake! What about the Tupi-Guarani, the Caribs, the Mapuche? Stop adding cultures from North America as if they were superior to the ones we had in South America!

Wait a second, let me get this straight from some of you guys.

Giant Death Robot: Perfectly fine!
X-Com Squad: YOU'RE BREAKING IMMERSION!

There is no real prospect of an XCOM squad - it's an existing trademark (albeit one currently owned by Firaxis), not a generic 'death robot'. In that sense it is fair to call it more immersion-breaking: it ties Civ to a particular existing fictional universe, which is very far from what Civ should do.

Plus, from memory the GDR was added specifically at fan suggestions.

Fixed that for you.

Doesn't seem like a stretch at all.. there chances have just gone WAY up... we still have 6 civs yet to be revealed, if you say we have Portugal/NatvAm/Zulu/Kongo there are still two left..

To me, that leaves a few very good options :

Vietnam
Majaphit
Hungary
Papal States (meh)

After seeing Ur as a City-State, I'm 99.9% sure Sumer won't be in. Same goes for Swahili
