PH02: Eight Angry Men

And the correct answer to the competition:
We captured Stuttgart from the Germans (1)
They took it back (2)
We took it back again (3)
Japan Capured Berlin and Essen (5)
We captured Dortmund and Cologne (7)

7 cities captured then. Frank was closest and guessed two. So he gets one pp. Thanks to all the participants, and be sure to tune in for the next "Prank Point Lottery." (TM)

Good turns munter! Absolutely fantastic.

Now that we have the shrine, I would suggest pumping out some buddhist missionaries. Also, a bank and wall street at Hamburg is a no-brainer. Now that we have optics, some caravels to protect our seafood nets is also necessary. May also consdier saving some gold for mace -> grenie upgrade ... but don't accumulate too much gold though, someone bound to come asking for our money if we are too fat with our coffers.

--

Thanks GreyFox.
Your suggestions are good, but we need to figure out whether Caravels and missionaries are to prioritized over muskets, grens and cannons. Buddhism is spread acroos all our cities IIRC, and there aren't many nets to be protected. We have two or three galleys which should be enough against barb galleys. Caravels can't pillage, and we can't match galleons and frigates anyway.
City raider 3 grens are absolutely one of my favorite units, so I'm totally with you on that one.

Now, if anyone ask for our cash, it can actually be an easy way to improve relations, or, if we refuse, get someone to declare war on US instead of the other way around, which help us against those "You declared war against our friend" diplomatical penalties.
Contradicting myself again, when an AI demands something, it is better that they ask for our spare gold resource than our 1000 gold/beakers, so I guess you have a point;)

I am looking forward to be corrected on all my :smoke: on your first turn, Fox, or is it Phonthepe who's up now?

Well played Munter!! Frankfurt, Cologne AND Dortmund! I'm impressed!

Monty doesn't have Horses, and unless he converts to Free Religion, it seems unlikely that he'll get them some someone else. Once we get Cavalry, Monty's days are numbered!k

Munterpipe said:
Oh, we'll get him before that, I think;)
Yeah, canons and grens, baby.

okay, my nice, quiet builder turns (so don't complain that the report is drier than Munter's day-old vomit )

t00/1700:
Just looking around. Wow! we're #2 now! how 'bout that!

t01/1703:

Stuttgart: out of revolt>Theatre
I also put Harrapan onto Emph Production.

Dortmund: out of revolt > theatre

t05/1715:

t06/1718:
JC comes demanding Spices

i meekly acquiesce. He's cautious with us at this point.

I also swap Harrapan to a Buddhist Monastery to spread the word throughout the continent ~ any $$ is good $$.

t07/1721:
Cologne: Theatre>Barracks
Tokugawa makes peace with Biz

t08/1724:
Tiflis: Courthouse>Theatre (i think?? my handwriting is sloppy)

I called up monty, but this is his offer:
civ4screenshot0006ri6.jpg

We're still 'at war' with Nappy, but so far, it's nothing but phoney.

Here's a phamily foto of the 8 angry men:

Well that was a nice set of boring turns;) Dry as Rex' Sperma in his Vertical courderoy pants:lol:
Anyway, I'm the only thing I'm concerned about is that we might not get to cannons soon enough.
When we get there, we can out-produce anyone, but our research is simply to slow. Now what can we do about that?
And you haven't provided a save I can peek at, if I'm not missing something.

truly laughing my ass off! what a deviant you are :hint, hint:

@Fox ~ had to avoid the  from the wife and did the dishes real quick!

This SHOULD work

Okay, I should always multiply by 2 the amount of time I need to play and report. ;)

First off, congratulations, pholker ... er, I mean pholkhero, thre is no :gripe: from me. There are a few minor tweaks here and there that I made to some cities, but nothing worth :whipped:ing you about  If you really must know your mistake, read the begining of the autolog.

Let's look at the demographs:

ph02-AD1730-demographs.jpg

Geez ... -5 for GNP???? In my humbe opinion, we should rebuild our economy first instead of chasing military techs. That means getting banking and printing press done. With those in, we can easily up our research to 60%, and beat all the AI in terms of production and research by our sheer size.

However, since chemistry is almost there, I continue down that path. This is also factored by the fact that Monty has tons of rifleman accumulating in the border cities.

Didn't realize we have a scientist sleeping in GP-Farm ... hmm... he will learn us 70% of printing press.

ph02-AD1732-scientist.jpg

I debated whether to join him to Sparta or wait for Chemistry to finish ... and decided to wait. That being my first mistake.

Why? because some turns later, another scientist popped! Damned!

ph02-AD1744-another-scientist.jpg

I merged him immediately to our capital.

My second is mistake is this:

ph02-AD1738-nappy-peace.jpg

I signed peace so that we can peacefully work on the crabs and whale, for that I started building another workboat in Beshbalik, only to realize that we do not have optics!!! Didn't I read in Munter's report that we have optics from Bismarck's peace treaty!?!? (On hingsight, suggest that next player start extorting Bisnarck for money and tech. He is a non-factor in this game now, might as well squeeze something out of him.)

Damned, I stopped the workboat since we can't go whaling as yet, and use the existing workboat to net the crabs. I'd also cancelled the tribute to JC:

ph02-AD1748-cancel-JC.jpg

If he want spice, he'd jolly well pay with real money.

We marked Thermopylae as our military production center ... but its production is pathetic. Part of the reason is because of the lack of food, so I chopped a forest near Monty's border to rush an adequct there. At the end of my turnset, some workers are chopping forests in three separate place. They are duly signed, so next player might want to keep track of these chops so that you timed heavy production to coincide with the chop.

We got Chemistry at the end of my turnset,

ph02-AD1750-chemistry.jpg

And congratulations, we are #1!

I started printing press next. Suggest next player to lighbulb the scientist for printing press, that wil learn us priniting press in 6 turns with current research rate (30%).

ph02-AD1750-printpress.jpg

EDIT: Did anyone noticed that the # of beakers increased? Hm .. wonder how the # of beakers are computed ...

Also suggest to go banking to ease up our economy. It has improved, but we are still in a bad shape. After banking, if next player wish to go for steel, by all means. In my humble opnion, though, we should head towards Communism. That will settle our economic problem once and for all.

ph02-AD1750-demographics.jpg

I did try to spread buddhism, but the missionary failed! :aargh: At my last turn, one missionary is heading towards our western most city, and one more missionary is being built. If the current missionary succeeds, then the new missionary can spread to Mao's city.

Oh, I applied the whip to some size 5 and below cities.

Good turns as always, Greyfox.
I guess we'll need to discuss our research path for the next turns.
Since we have the a scientist ready, able to bulb us more than half the way, I think we should continie researching PP, but as soon as that is done, let's go for Steel and cannons. We haven't got a lot of time. If Monty gets infantry, we'll have a much harder time taking his territory.
 Is Otto still there? for Japanese inefficiency.

Sprite, I meant the number of beakers the scientist will grant. In the first screenshot, it showed 2758. In the later screenshot, it showed 2767. I suspect the longer we delayed lightbulding him, the more beakers he will grant (but its only a measly 1 beaker per turn if I guessed correctly, so not worth a thing).

Munter: hmm ... I am still inclined to a detour to banking before Replaceable Parts or Steel. Hamburg alone will give us an extra 25gpt (~10% research) with bank built, and is only 700 beakers compared to 2000 for replaceable Parts and 2400 for Steel. (these numbers are gotten from the Tech Chart, definitely not reflective of the game since Printing Press cost only 1200 according to the chart).

On the other hand, we are Monty's worst enemy, so he is bound to coe after us again. So I am torn. We currently only barely have grenediars (not built yet) to counter his rifleman, so if he come after us right now it would be a bitter fight. However, the addition of steel doesn't bring much, since cannons is still more useful in offensive rather than defensive.

Printing Press is definitely worth lightbulding, since it leads to Replaceable Parts anyway.

Banking or Steel first. Tough choice really.
Think about all the gold we'll get from from capturing Aztec cities?
How about that GreyFox. Lots of lots of gold :commerce: :commerce: :commerce:
How about that?
Have you seen the gem mines in Monty's land:groucho:
Steel could get you those mines Greyfox.
Do you want those gems Greyfox? :cooool: Those precious gems sure look nice, don't you think? Do you want those gems, GreyFox?

Hey, I understand where you're coming from, Fox, I really do. I also want those banks really bad. Nobody wants banks more than ME, and don't even get me started on Mercantilism!:yeah: But those cannons will get us Banking soon. AND so much more as well. When all those Mexican towns start working for us, we'll have Wall Street in no-time. Don't even think about it Grey, we got it all set up for us. Steel will get you all the gold and banks and gems you want.

So here's what we'll do. We'll finish up Printing Press, and go for steel while building Grenadiers. Sooner than you can imagine, We'll knock on Monty's door with an army of cannons, and trample his meek empire. Next time you get your turns, I absolutely guarantee that you will have banks to play with, and as if that wasn't enough, I'll even make sure we rename the first captured city to GreyFoxtown.:goodjob:

So I presume you agree that we should go straight for steel after Printing press:yup: .
Do we take Calix or Dusseldorf first?

[/sales pitch:cool: ]

Great job, GreyFox!

Could the number of beakers gone up to compensate for the reduced cost as more Civs discover the technology?

How about using the scientist to build an Academy, preferably in Sparta if we don't have one there already? It's our commerce giant right now.

Monty sort of killed Thermopylae's production after turnset after turnset of pillaging there. But if we farm everything green and mine every hill, it'll be cranking out grenediers and canon soon. Certainly, skip any cottages there except maybe the tiles west of the city that can't be irrigated.

Edit: Build an Academy in Hamburg?
