:lol::rotfl::lol:

You DO have auto-save on, right? So you could just replay the last turn?

Anyway, got it.

er...no, no i don't. I man came over, and turned it off yesterday. Yeah, that's the ticket. In fact, in fact, it was Sid Meier himself, see, and he came over, and switched auto-save right off, yeah! Then we went out for drinks, see, and he promise to let me design Civ 5 ~

I believe that they will base the AI for Civ 5 on pholk's leaders strategy. I've never seen a design team as excited about a project since MOO3

Einstein eh? A great scientist and inspiration to any aspiring maths teacher (bet he never forgot to keep autosave on one turn intervals!).

Wound up working Saturday, too, so I played tonight. Sorry for the delay. Short report this time...very peaceful set. Played 10 turns, because I thought we should talk about direction.

First off...a few things were different in the save than in Pholk's report (because of the replay, presumably). Most important, the diplomatic situation is different:

As you can see, we still have OB with Toku, and DON'T have it with Asoka. A shame, because if we had the OB with India, then we could move units in and out of Lahore.

I MM'd Lahore to starve, but let us build the Theater in 7 turns, rather than 35. Maybe we can dig out of the cultural hole, but it'll be hard with Delhi so close...

Biology came in.

Switched to Astronomy next, hoping to be able to get to Physics first (using our two GS's. I even delayed burning the GS until the last second, to get the biggest number of beakers.

Unfortunately, when I got Astro, I checked the screens and saw that the $%@ Indian had just gotten Physics.

I used the second GS for an Academy in Cambridge - it'll return a LOT more beakers than it would 'bulb (break-even in 90 turns or less).

I first chose Democracy (since the SoL hasn't been built, and we're at 4-5 Emancipation unhappiness), but I thought better of it and chose Physics instead. It's on the road to the UN and critical for space-race techs, too. Plus, I'm not at all sure we will ever switch from Caste System anyway. And nearly everyone else has Democracy already, so I kept hoping someone would trade it. No joy yet.

However, I did make this trade when it was offered:

Anyway, I figured we should talk about where to go, tech- and victory-wise, before I went too far down the road. If we go for the UN, we're about 4 techs away. If space-race, we will HAVE to take Asoka down a peg again, since he's out-teching us at the moment.

The good news is that we've caught up to within 100 points of the Indian, score-wise.

Last, I figured that Cambridge would be the best place for Globe Theater, since it has the largest number of farms. So I've started it there, MM'd the place to give max hammers for a little starvation, and the Theater should be done in 22 turns.

The Save

Warning: Check Shaka - that power graph looks like he "has too much on his hands at the moment" - military build up but who is the target?

Oh shoot ~ good turns Zophos.

I still think we should head for Space, since I don't thikn we'd pull out Diplo. Maybe we could aim for the late culture wonders and go for that?!? That'd be super long-shot, but maybe we'd get enough GAs to help us.

06/27/07 Roster
Zophos >> just played
Pholkhero >> swapped w/Zoph
Codeman >> OoP until 06/29
Lukep >> if you can play, UP NOW
Pigswill >> on deck or up now maybe

assessing situation

Time of lightbulbing is almost over.
What we need now is growth and production (biology farms).
harbors are huge for us. example in princeton : harbor == 20 :science: == 2 scientists
We wont avoid emancipation too

We dont have coal :(

1637 AD : shaka declare war on churchill. good for us.
1640 AD : shaka raze Oxford !
1643 AD : shaka capture another one of Churchill
1652 AD : shaka capture another one of Churchill

notes
I played only 10 turns because we have decisions to make

shaka will trade coal or copper for gem + ivory (good deal imho) or both if we add banana
hannibal would accept railroad for biology+ astronomy

none of the trades are done

I really think our only chance is space, but that means imho :

- democraty & assembly line
- taking down asoka & churchill
- beelining to computer
- survive meanwhile

okay, good turns, I think we should maybe go along with Shaka for now, if we think we can get away with it.

If we declare, we'll lose our defensive pacts with Biz and Toku (for whatever that is worth). However, if there is some newly-empty land near cities that Shaka has razed, we might want to drop a settler or two in.

I'm UP but tied up with other stuff at the moment.

If Codeman could play then I'll play the next set and that should put us back in sequence for the next round.

sure. i can grab it. will play in a couple hours. guess we are heading towards space. guess settlers for filling land opened by shaka.

opinions on joining the war?

also, since time of lightbuling is almost over, do we want to start guiding GP towards merchants or something? maybe artists?

i'll wait for team thoughts for a couple hours.

I'm not sure declaring would be worth losing our DPs and risk a backstab from Asoka. Perhaps we can punt the question, and let Codeman play the set while you argue it out. Sorry about the late notice, but i'm going to be OoP from tonight until 07/09 or 07/10 (Zophos, could you act as 'captain' in my absence, posting rosters and general prodding?).

As I said, I'm anti-war at this juncture, but DO think taking down Churchill would be very beneficial to the win. Asoka may be a tech threat, but I'm not sure if he's a production threat anymore. Our biggest threat may be Bismarck for space, and Shaka for war.

Maybe we can beeline towards Robotics for the Space Elevator, and then back up for Rocketry and then Satellites to get the Elevator up and running early!

Codeman >> UP NOW and has it
