We had a thread about Spiderman 3 a while back, so I figured why not one about the new Pirates movie.

Spoiler Don't read if you don't want to know about the movie :
I just saw it yesterday and I thought it was horrible. The last part was okay, but most of the movie was dull. There was no point in Norrington even being in the movie, and Sao Feng were undeveloped and they killed them off without them doing too much.

Worst $9 I spent this year.:vomit:

I'm wondering what other peoples opinions were because one of my friends liked it, and the other agreed with me

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't perfect. I didn't expect it to be perfect. In fact, I expected it to be absolutely horrible.

Hence the reason I liked it so much :D

I saw it last night (well, more this morning), and it was ok. I thought from the previews that it looked worse than the previous two, and it did.

I was really tired when I saw it, but there was really no plot except for what rolled over from previous movie. The Singaporeans were thrown in, but didn't really do much except drag out much of the movie. Calypso was a waste of time.

Anyway, doesn't deserve to be considered great or anywhere near the first movie and still not that close to the 2nd.

Not as good as the first, but still really fantastic:goodjob:

Fairly decent, but the other pirate factions really should have been expanded out a lot; as they were, it seemed like they were just kind of there to have grudging ethnic diversity. Furthermore, the final battle would have been a LOT better as a massive clash of the armadas, and not this heroic duel of ships one by one.

I was pretty much expecting it to be horrible so it was a nice surprise when it really wasn't that bad at all. If I had expected it to be something amazing, I probably would have been severely disappointed.

Either way, it was a good enough movie for me. :)

I was very disappointed in both Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3. Thus, I thought Priates 3 was much, much better as a sequel than those two.

The only obvious thing that I thought too stupid was:

Spoiler :
Where they brought Davey Jones to shore in a tub of water because it hadnt been 10 years yet. That was really stupid.

Other than that 1 item, I thought it was great!

One thing I didnt understand why didnt Cuttler fire back and just simply waited while his got blown apart.

Otherwise the film was liquid sex.

I echo that sentiment

The first movie was great. The second was was pretty good. The third one was not so good. I hope there won't be a fourth one, because the trend does not look promising for the quality of a fourth episode.

I've seen Spiderman 3, Caribbean 3, and 28 Weeks Later. The only movie that lived up to the original and was actually good was 28 Weeks Later. The other movies were just too long and went on too many tangents, abandoning the formula for a good movie they made in the originals.

1st movie=Awesome
2nd Movie=Mediocre
3rd Movie= Quite good.

Spoiler for my review in the movie thread.

Spoiler :
Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

I loved the first of the series, to this day it is one of my favorite movies; it had superb acting, a great script with humor, great special effects, and action. It felt polished, and with the exception of a couple plot inconsistencies, was great. I gave it a 9.5 out of ten.

I thought the second was a lesson in mediocrity. The first quarter of the movie felt like a waste, the script was bland, Johnny Depp wasn't the amazing Jack Sparrow he was in the first, and the whole movie just didn't seen that well though out. Good special effects and action kept it from sinking, but that was about it. I gave it a 5.5 out of ten.

I went into Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End with a pessimistic mind set, but I have to say, the third movie of the series takes a little of the bad from 2, but luckily for us, much more of the good from 1. Certainly, there are some scenes that make you cringe a little (the marriage scene, for example), but as a whole, the script is much more polished. Johnny Depp is back and better than ever, and there is much more of him this time around (quite literally). The movie is longer than the previous two, but each scene seems to have significance (with a few minor exceptions). The humor is back and much more natural than the forced feeling lines in the second movie, and the characters feel fairly developed. Great special effects and an epic ending battle scene round out an enjoyable film that relies more on the interesting plot, characters, and acting than the special effects, much like the first movie, unlike the second. The story is much improved over the second, and the movie just feels like more of an effort, and less of a cash draw. No word yet on a fourth, but they certainly leave it open.

Pros
+ Great acting, possibly Depp's best yet.
+ Interesting and more complex plot.
+ Great action sequences and special effects.

Cons
- A couple minor cringe scenes.
- Keira Knightley feels a little flat compared to Depp and Geoffery Rush.

Overall: Well, they managed to nail 2 out of three in the series so far. Here's to hoping there's another on the way.

8.5 out of 10.

Really? I was the complete opposite. I thought Spiderman wasn't as good as it could be, but Shrek was hilarious.

Spiderman tried too hard. Plus having the Green Goblin team up with spidy vs the sandman and venom just ruined it for me. It made no sense at all. And WTH was up with the John Travolta 'Staying Alive" routine....that was completely stupid. The movie would have been much better off by leaving venom out of it and letting spidy deal with the sandman and harry jr. Could you have imagined the setup for Spiderman 4 if they had used the black suit all through this movie and then given just a hint of venom at the end?

As for shrek. I found it too long and unfunny. Unlike in shrek 2 where the new characters added a lot to the movie...the adds in this one fell flat. Also, the music was greatly uninspired unlike the first 2 shrek movies. It had a few redeeming features, but overall was a disappointment to me.

I saw it Friday. I enjoyed the first two but this one sucked. Far to little Jack Sparrow. Far too much back stabbing. I honestly had no idea who was backstabbing who must of the time. And the anti climatic battle at the end. We were led to belive there would be this big naval battle but after the flagship was destroyed the Dutch East India co fleet just left. However keira knightley was looking as hot as ever.

Dutch? And here I thought they were British.....

I thought it was not as good as the first (which was completely amazing) but better than the second...

And is it just me, or does that kid signing in the beginning look exactly like Will's son, (shone in the scene after the credits) if so, that could be a foreshadow to the next movie... will taught his son a song to sing to call him if he ever needs help, and beckett, who survivied the explosion, but is paralyzed, is hunting down all pirates, to get revenge for his loss. (which is why he says "finally" when they start singing...

I didn't bother to see the second one because my friends said it was rubbish, but the first one was decent and I really liked the third one, I would have to say that the third one is the best.

Better than the second one, but still nowhere near as good as the first.
