Possible new leader for each civ

Netherlands

Prins Maurits (not Maurice gd)
Johan de Wit & van Oldebarneveld (the real reasons behind the Dutch golden centrury and succes (thats why they hang them :( )
Prins Bernhard :)
and I would swap Wilhelmina with Beatrix

I disagree with Richard 1 for England. he was a much overhyped King who spoke no English, spent all his time in France or Crusading in the Middle East, etc etc. He is not a good representation of England.

Much better would be Athelstan, a much-overlooked King who was the real first King of all England (many other previous kings claimed this, but their claim was spurious). He was a Warrior King who reclaimed our territories from the Vikings, who was the favourite King of the AngloSaxons after his death (more popular than Alfred), and who defeated a massive alliance of Vikings, Scots, Irish and Strathclyders at the Battle of Brunanburh in the 930s. He was Charismatic and everybody respected him.

His traits?

Aggressive
Charismatic

^How about Alfred the Great? 14th greatest Briton or something in "The Greatest Britons" Poll. And theres an amusing little fable about him and burning cakes.

This is the same poll where Princess Diana was voted the third greatest Briton of all time, and David Beckham the 33rd greatest Briton of all time. Not the best thing to use to support your argument

True. But he does have that amusing legend with the burned cakes...

Feel free to add more to the list.

*America: Ronald Reagan, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt

Arabia: Abu Bakr, Harun al-Rashid

Egypt: Khufu, Cleopatra VIII

Duke of Wellington was better known as a soldier than a leader (Prime Minister twice) therefore probably a great general

Richard II was a dismal dismal king, Henry VIII, Henry V, Elizabeth 2, Disraeli, Pitt the Younger etc would all be better leaders

Richard I was even worse.

I'll go with Alfred the Great though.

Theodora is Justinian's Wife, there's no need to have both of them...

I'd prefer Alexious I, but I think Justinian should have been Alexious because Alexious fits Spiritual/Imperialist better than Justinian.

isnt Darius Cyrus's son?

Neway NO RONALD REAGAN! ASK WHAT HE REALLY DID FOR AMERICA! other than get Alzhiemers

Instead of worrying about countries with 3 leaders, lets think about the rest.

India: Akbar or Chandragupta
China: Kanxing or Tang Taizong or Wu Di (actually, I'd like to remove both the current ones to get these three in there...)
Japan: Meiji
Arabia: Abu Bakr or Harun al-Rashid
Rome: Trajan or Hadrian (preferably both, removing one of the Caesars)
Sumeria: Sargon
Babylon: Nebuchadenezzar (I know I spelled that wrong!)
Egypt: Menes
Spain: Charles V or Philip II
Portugal: Afonso I
France: Richelieu (or remove HRE and add Charlemagne)
Greece: maybe a Spartan (I don't know any but not Leonidas...)
Germany: Barbarosa (calling him Frederick would cause untold confusion)
Mongolia: not really a Mongol, but Timurlane
Native America: they don't deserve another leader but maybe Hiawatha
Ethiopia: Haile Selassie
Vikings: Canute

If I think of any more I'll edit this instead of reposting.

I miss 5 leaders in the game:
1. Fidel Castro
2. Simon Bolivaar
3. Ernesto Che Guevara
4. any African dictator
5. Adolph the Nameless:)

I don't get it cybrx. Which burned cake?

Alfred. THe legend goes something like this:

Mr. Alfred is running from the Danes or something, and ends up in this random woman's house (she doesn't know hes the king).

Woman: Hey, sir, I need to go out to do some errands. I'm baking some cakes/pastry/bread-stuff in the oven - can you look over them when I'm gone, and take them out before they burn?

Alfred (as a good and noble person): Sure thing, woman!

Woman: Good. I'll be back soon.

[Leaves]

Alfred [sits down and watches cake]: Hmm... blah blah blah problems blah blah blah Danes are owning me blah blah blah must think of some amazing strategy blah blah blah i can't be this much of a noob balh blah blah balh balh blah the fate of England is in my hands blah blah balh strategy blah balh blah strategy tactics blah blah blah...

And he falls into deep thought...

[an hour later]

The woman come in, and whacks Alfred.

Woman: WTH is this, you slob? You've burnt my cakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alfred later went to win against the Danes...

So our Danish Overseas Empire was ruined because of simple overheated pastry?

One word - dang

Less important leaders like Boudica/Joao II were added into the game, but significant figures like Adolf Hitler are left out...

-Compare Joao's achievements to those of Hitler in WW2 (a milestone in human history).
-Compare Portugal's achievements in hundreds years to those of Nazi Germany in 12. Ask anybody on the street if they know who Joao II is: Unless they're portuguese I'm willing to bet they won't know. Ask that same person who Hitler was.

WW2 has become a huge cultural symbol. The Portuguese Peninsular War of 1807... not so much.

Alright, enough whining. Germany has two good leaders, and Firaxis knew that adding Hitler would offend many paying customers. They were worried of a jewish player who, mousing over Adolf Hitler's portrait, would see:

Friendly: +5 We care for our brothers and sisters in the faith.

That same person, who will get offended so easily, probably doesn't know that Stalin did his own fair share of killing (20 million in Siberia, rumored), yet he is in the game, or that Isabella, along with the Inquisition, persecuted over 200,000 non-Christians out of Spain.

But by having many civilizations, Firaxis attracts a larger pool of gamers. I still think they should add some new leaders though, instead of entire new civilizations that won't see a new leader until Civ 7 (Khmer...). Poor Arabia has been stuck with Saladin for a long time... Spain, Aztecs, Inca, Japan and Mali also need some attention.

Well, there are some things I want to comment on.

Li Shi Min might be a good choice for a Chinese leader. Why?

1. Anybody who watches the Discovery Kids Channel will know who is (as he was in one episode of Time Warp Trio).
2. I just found out that he was in the Chinese version of Civ3.

And point number 2 that I wanted to make is that nobody has considered how badly the Aztecs need a new leader. They've been in every non-expanded civ game so far, and I can bet you Montezuma II is the only leader holding that title. It's a shame that they still have one leader while the Ottomans, who first came in the Civ series with Civ3' Play the World expansion pack, now have two leaders. If you want, here's each Civ game that each civ in Civ4 made their debut in.

America: Civ1
Arabia: Civ2 (Bonus civ)
Aztec: Civ1
Babylon: Civ1
Byzantium: C3C
Carthage: Civ2
Celtia: Civ2
China: Civ1
Egypt: Civ1
England: Civ1
Ethiopia: BtS
France: Civ1
Germany: Civ1
Greece: Civ1
Holy Rome: BtS
Inca: Civ2 (Bonus)
India: Civ1
Japan: Civ1 (SNES)
Khmer: BtS
Korea: PtW
Mali: Civ4
Maya: C3C
Mongolia: Civ1
Native America: BtS
Netherlands: C3C
Ottomans: PtW
Persia: Civ2
Portugal: C3C
Rome: Civ1
Russia: Civ1
Spain: Civ2
Sumeria: C3C
Vikings: PtW
Zululand: Civ1

There are two reasons why Hitler isn't in:

1. He is a "loser". (i don't mean it that way, i mean it that way)

2. Sid Meier is Jewish.

Li Shi Min might be a good choice for a Chinese leader

For those who don't know, the guy is more better known as "Taizong".

China has tons of great leaders to choose from, more than any other civilization can offer. Its a pity they don't have three leaders. *shrugs*
