Post-pandemic changes

Since a lot of the cell phone carriers are giving unlimited data for free, I imagine that customers will start questioning the need for the artificial limits in the first place.

I was thinking today, watching reports on places where citizens have discovered that they can have non-polluted rivers and seas, that perhaps they'd like to keep it that way.
We learn all schools and colleges can be done remotely, so we do away with them!
Except that this is not how it goes, at least in my experience.

Canada is in a mess now and will still be in a mess a year from now. If the government is toppled in a non-confidence vote (there are grounds as Trudeau didn't act fast enough either with the native blockades or coronavirus) and the Reformacons win, I might as well grab a towel and hope there's a spaceship passing by. I can't even think past the end of this month, let alone next year.

There's this aquarium a little over an hour away that I take my son to often. He loves the place, and especially the sea lion show.

I've always thought the show is stupid. It hasn't been updated in the few years I've been taking him, and it's corny as anything. I usually zone out during it, or look at my phone. He really likes it though--it never gets old for him. He likes to sit way up high so he can see everything and he's constantly asking me to take pictures or video.

I can't wait to take the little bugger to that stupid, corny, repetitive show again. I guess that'll be the change for me. I'll just appreciate taking my kids places more.

Gave my wife a best case and worst case scenario today. "You're all doom and gloom".

Covid in less than a week. 5,7,8,12,20,28,39.

Just pointing out what's happening overseas. We're a few weeks behind the curve.

I think that this a good thing ! :)

k-6th grade education in US doubles as day care so highly unlikely this will ever happen. In Michigan you can already enroll your high school student in online high school. It's some newer program, not sure what it entails. And there are plenty of online only colleges.

A lot of education is socialization. Big steps backwards the longer schools and universities remain shuttered.

In the US "Nevar forget Corona 2020" replaces the "Nevar forget 9/11" election slogan.

That about does it for "change" in America I think.

We learn all schools and colleges can be done remotely

Maybe not so much with schools, but it'll be interesting to see if the uptake in remote-working, video calls, etc remains when we can all get back into offices.

Certainly here although the technology has been available to do this sort of thing, people have always been reluctant to do so and prefer face-to-face working. Maybe this might make people realise that video conferencing isn't as bad as they thought??

That certainly is a possible positive outcome for me. I was already doing home office once a week before, but it's nice to see that it's possible to do most of my work (including meetings) without being physically present. Some of the nice side effects are getting to eat lunch AND dinner with my family every day, as well as not wasting 2h a day travelling to and from work. Also hopefully, some people will realize that many of the 'absolutely necessary' meetings we hold are pure waste.

What I don't like is having to work full time as well as replacing the teacher for the kids :)

Yeah - this is going to be a challenge. Apparently putting them in front of the Xbox for 8 hours a day doesn't count as teaching!
Well, I learned two important lessons playing a lot of video games as a child.

That Climate is a good point !
Would we have been further with Climate techs, like the big offshore windmills, solar, etc when the GFC would not have come in between in 2008 ?
I think that the GFC did cost us several years progress on climate for several reasons from resource allocation freedom up to some unwise costcutting actions.

This crisis is I think both an opportunity as a risk for Green, sustainable, etc.
IDK what happens.

Agreed, on one hand, green ideas typically have it hard in times of economic downturns. However, maybe people will see the effect that the reduced pollution due to the corona shutdowns has and start thinking...

I predict more self-conscience developing among people. I also predict economic depression - hopefully not that bad as it was in 1920's cause it would bring out right-wing nationals in power. Thing is we don't want to go that way do we ?

Right wing is already in power, in most of the world.
