Proofs that God is imaginary

Looking back through history, it is clear that if an omnipotent God exists, he obviously does not care about us.

If God exists; his version of justice is a long way from ours; he would be considered along with Hitler were he a world leader (advocating genocide and racism; religious intolerance, absolute government and censorship)
Just because someone will inevitably point it out sooner or later, and it might as well be me, that's pretty much a Godwin right there. In all fairness, the Old Testament god was a violent, genocidal, racial supremacist nutjob, but, still... ;)

Random thought #8144723-C:

That the real world kind of sucks, is pretty much a given. Getting through childhood and school is no picnic, pimples suck, the police are always handing you speeding tickets, everybody in existence complains about their job ALL the time.....oh yeah, and at the end of it you're going to die.

With all the pain and suffering out there, why the hell are you CREATING NEW CHILDREN??? Jesus Christ, people, you know what your kids are gonna go through, and yet you just keep having them.

Why do you do that???

It was kind of a silly question, wasn't it? The answer is pretty obvious. And when you answer it, you've got the answer to those comments about how a loving God would cure cancer and whatnot.

It doesn't, though.

You just listed a bunch of crappy things about life, but there's a lot of awesome stuff that happens that makes it all worth it: your first kiss, bacon, roller coasters, love, steak, the beach, sex on the beach, japanese game shows.. need i go on?

Instead of arguing whether life objectively sucks, I prefer to use clinical depression statistics. For 10% of people, life subjectively sucks, oppressively so.

Nice law - one of the few which works on the .net

- according to the NT John the Baptist is a follower of Jesus (the baptism itself confirms that the other way around would be the only logical conclusion).
Another logic would be the same as Him washing the disciples' feet as a servant and subject Himself to authority like Pilate. The first shall be last and last shall be first.

It's fun xcl

No evidence means no grounds for belief, so you can prove that it is irrational to belive in God which is similar.

Irrational doesn't mean wrong though.
Rationality is a tool of very specific but limited utility. Irrationality is unlimited in its scope and grandeur and has other important uses. Most humans put on a "rational" face in public, but favor their irrationality in private or among family and friends.

Reason (with passion) produces Bach. Irrationality with talent produces ...[insert you favorite rock band].

I can't help but think that religious faith, like music, is universal to human societies. It didn't spread from society to society, from tribe to tribe. It was everywhere, right from the beginning. It was only later on that some religions became dominant over others. If every society came up with it's own religions, then that suggests that the truth of religion falls in a pretty narrow range of possibilities.

1) All religion is fictional: Humans simply have some innate need to create one.

2) There is one God, and he has an absolutely bazaar sense of humor, and chose to reveal himself to virtually every group in history in a different manner.

3) There are/were many gods, and the stronger overwhelmed the weaker over time and drove the weaker into obscurity/nonexistence.

4) Most gods were imaginary, one God is real.

Of those possibilities, which one actually makes sense?

What about one God who was interpreted a bunch of different ways?
The blind men and the elephant tale comes to mind.

the correct answer is

5) Man felt the need to come up with an explanation for something he didn't understand e.g. thunder and lightning?

He would throw that under #1 I think.

BINGO.

Why did God perform an Act of Creation with pain and suffering in it?

Well, why do YOU do it? Why do you folks perform Acts of Creation?

Because IT'S WORTH IT, even if it isn't perfect.

Has it occured to anyone that our concept of God may not be the reality? There are hundreds of religion and each has its own idea of what God/s/ess/esses is like. God could be any one of those, and also Gods plan may be independent of what we wish for.

Yes, it has.

But religions don't generally like to admit that other, competing religions might be either correct, or just correct.

Plus, there is the whole, 'Thou shalt put no other God before me' thing.

The bible never says: the other Gods don't exist, it just says that you mustn't venerate them - so it doesn't rule out hindu-style polytheism
