Putin actually good for US

The thing is, that in order to swallow up all the other countries, he had to invade Poland, which triggered the whole WWII.

It'd be an analogous situation - Crimea gets annexed, same with Estonia. And since Putin is more of a politician and less of a military leader, we'll get into the inevitable formula of First Time As A Tragedy, Second Time As A Farce, or FTAAT,STAAF.

Sounds better than expected.

Hitler was also "more of a politician and less of a military leader". So in other words, we just wait for him to take a few more countries, commit ethnic and/or ethnic genocide, and then trigger WWIII?

If it is all the same with you, I think waiting for that is not the best course of action.

Wo-wo-wait! Ethnic genocide? By Putin? Have not you missed that part:

"[Put] Moskals on knives!"

"[Put] Moskals on a gibbet!"

"Those who are not jumping are Moskals!"

"[Put] Commies on a gibbet!"

"Hail Ukraine! Hail heroes!"

"Hail nation! Death to the enemies!"

"Bandera, Shukhevich are the heroes of Ukraine!"

"One language! One nation! One fatherland! This is Ukraine!"

Just taking the Hitler analogy one step further. I don't know enough about the inner workings of society (certainly not more than a local).

OK, just take that step out if you want. We wait for him to take a few more countries and trigger WWIII and then you all agree that by then we can do something.

Boy, in this game you take one city and everybody says it is cool to call you a warmonger - he wants to take a few countries as well all just sit there and watch.

He has not took a country yet. And previously, before "annexing" Crimea, Russia under Putin/Medvedev made many territorial concessions: to China, to Norway, etc, even to Ukraine.

90,000 sq km seceded to Norway compared to 26,000 sq km of Crimea. Area of Moscow oblast alone is two times larger than Crimea: 45,000 sq km.

So was Crimea and half of Eastern Ukraine; they never entered Ukraine until the revolution during WWI.

Therefore, Eastern Ukraine goes to Russia through that logic.

If we operate by that logic we might as well give Russia back to Mongolia then.

Time to flee to Sweden me thinks.

Depends on your pov. In mine, Russia flexed its muscles and tried to control areas over which it had no legal claim (Iron Curtain), and threatened more. The US (and other countries) tried to, and eventually did, stop them. Also, the two bullies on the world block, wasted money flexing muscles.

My point as OP was never that I liked the US's actions, but that as the one superpower left in the world, were not popular in much of it. Now, as it appears Russia may be trying to emulate the former USSR, the US will be more popular as a counter.

By the way, using Aleskey's logic, Italy can claim most of Europe, England can claim Canada and the US, Spain can claim Mexico, etc. back through time.

I like Putin and hope he does increase the size of the Soviet Union. Hardline communism will always fail but if he incorporates some capitalistic type incentives he may revitalize the Russian economy. Putin should play to his strengths. Space exploration and raw materials.

You mean it's cool that he goes to war and/or annexes other countries because it would be good for him? So by the same token, people should stop complaining when then feel the US is meddling in other countries, or North Korea threatens to bomb other countries, because it is good for them? And again, what Hitler did was good, because it might "revitalize" the German economy?

Maybe I am missing something, but some people seem to have selective ethics.

Crimea is not another country. It was Ukraine only formally and suffered from its artificial assimilation policies and nation-building which ignores minorities. While the majority of its populace considered themselves Russian regardless of the ethnical background.

Ukraine is not just another country, tens of millions of Russian and Ukrainian citizens have ties with the other side through grand parents, parents or other relatives, or birth. Millions Russians live in Ukraine, millions Ukrainians live in Russia. There was never a clear distinction between Russian and Ukrainian.

In this "war", there are only 3 deaths and even those were because of a provocateur who killed two guys from both sides and then was killed himself.

And it is not Putin or Russia who started this, but Maidanists. And it is not Putin or Russia who initiated the "annexation", but locals of Crimea.
