Random Rants ΠΓ': Parental guidance required

It astounds me just how ignorant people are about certain aspects of how things work in the US.

Like right now, you got a bunch of young people freaking out thinking they'll get drafted if we go to war with Iran. This is an irrational fear when you consider there hasn't been a military draft in the US since 1973 and Congress would have to pass legislation that would have to be signed into law by the president to reinstate it. That's simply not going to happen in the current political climate.

Not to mention the US has numerous options to exhaust to keep troop numbers up before resorting to grabbing random civilians to go fight. Maybe if people actually took some time to learn about the country they live in, they could save themselves from irrational freakouts like this.

Considering that most of the youth today could not pass the basic citizenship test, I'm not surprised.

If that was the case, the country would have gone belly up years ago.

You should have bought it on GOG. Not only are the earlier games frequently ridiculously cheap, all the money would go to CDPR.

Haven't try that one, using steam is easy because I don't need to use paypal or cc to buy something (I got cc but never used it, maybe it's already expired) not really good in this kind of things, in steam I can avoid that by buying voucher from my country third party using ebanking that in return they will give me a code to fill up my wallet. I don't know if this GOG can be that simple but I'll have a look.

edit: I checked it, the expansion pass dlc for Witcher at steam is 3 usd more cheaper, maybe steam is like playstore now, the price is depend on the location. Everything that I see in GOG is more expensive than steam.

Rant: I seem to be having bad luck with hard drives recently. :cringe:

Bought witcher bundle on steam during the sales, I just realize I forgot to buy the Witcher 3 dlc, now checking two of the dlc, it's in a full price, and it worth a price of a full game also. Dang.
CDPR is pretty good about putting things on sale, and Witcher 3 base game has more than enough content to keep you busy for a long time. The DLC is all post-main game stuff.

Not the brand new drive?

No. One of the ones that came with the computer. Current Pending Errors Count (unreadable sector) is at 200, which is not a good sign for a drive less than a year old.

Really glad to know that!

Did you get a warante for that piece of hardware? If it’s less than a year old, you should be able to get a replacement. Though I’m not 100% sure on computer parts you buy from places like NewEgg.

There's a warranty on the drive until 2023; I confirmed this with the store that built the machine. Once the weather clears up and I can get to the post office, I'm going to try RMA it.

I bought a Maxtor HDD 15 years or so ago and it failed within a week, just after I had moved all my files off a quickly failing old drive. Nothing on the Maxtor was accessible. Physical parts of the drive stopped working. Maxtor offered me a new drive and said that my data loss was not their responsibility. Crap happens, get over it. Well I didn't. I had a ton of stuff on that drive. I sued them in small claims court for $3000 (the then cost to send the broken drive to a specialty house to retrieve data off the platters). Maxtor never responded to claim and the judge ruled in my favor. Maxtor refused to pay. Take that you scum! I was six months into this mess and had a pretty good accounting of every action and reaction from the beginning. So, I sent my story and all my stuff to the company President via Fed Ex. A check came ten days later for the full amount. :)

I think Maxtor harddrives were pretty infamous for their...unreliability.

That particular glitch happened because there's a bit of wire somewhere in the drive mechanisms that unintentionally worked like a speaker's voice coil.

So I'm having a grey-tinged sky because of all these Australian fires.

Yes. That. Of course, climate change deniers are in charge of the Australian misgovernment.

Found the source.
